I agree, Yeah Ovechkin is my favourite player, and when i was growing up it was Sergei Fedorov, but not even I am ignorant to say they are better, sorry but players like Gretzky, Lemieux, Bobby Hull, Bobby Orr, Rocket Richard, Gordie Howe etc are truly amazing and The Great One's records will be hard to beat, not only by Russian born players but by anyone!

Gretzky's records will never be broken for one reason. In his era, goaltenders were absolutely awful. The Goaltending position has evolved so much. Seriously, watch a highlight reel of Gretzky when he was younger and breaking every record in the book. The goaltending was embarassingly bad and the pads were tiny so open goal space was sooo much greater. I know it will draw criticism, but I think if you were to insert ovechkin into Gretzky's era, he'd be scoring 100 goals a season.

8 years ago, in 43 games, he got 35 G and 41A. That was FAR from a prime Lemieux on top of everything. Don't you dare say that Ovechkin is better than Lemieux.

Calm down. Lemieux was in his prime 20 years ago. Watch highlight reels of him back when he was putting up jaw-dropping numbers. Try to find goalkeeping that would get you a job in today's NHL. There's none. Absolutely none. My point is that if Ovechkin, was inserted into the late 80s/ early 90s, he would probably better Lemieux's numbers. No one can ever say that Ovechkin is better than Gretzky or Lemieux or vice versa. The league is so different now than it was that it's completely impossible.

I agree, goalies of today ar emuch bigger ad stronger and more athletic and they wear more gear, which there is some talk next year about reducing the size.

Anyhow, the only great goalies I can think of back then like 30+ years ago are Tony Esposito, Glen Hall, Jacques Plante, Terry Sawchuk and Billy Smith.
