Now that I see this videoI have a question... I think my dog is affraid of water (In big quantity) He likes water when i'm showering him (well they, I have 2 yellow lab, father and son) but when they're near a huge quantity of water they ran away

Why is that? Might be because when they were puppies they weren't exposed to big masses of water? Do all yellow labs love water? Or mine are now 100% yellow labs?

@seledne as you can see, labradors love to run around, i would suggest offering lots of exercise to your puppy. You have to be veeery careful with what you feed your puppy as well, they love to eat !!!! : )

@appleyeoman , i have a black lab and i got him at 7 weeks. hes a great gun dog and hes almost 2 yrs old now. he was retreiving out the pond at 9 weeks. you just have to keep an eye on them since they arent used to it and could get lost and go farther out. its best to get in the water with them

Awww! So cute! I have a lab, too, though I think he's an oddity. He loves water, but can't swim to save his life. He'll wade, but even when we throw a ball, he can't go get it. Then again, he's not the smartest crayon in the box..... :P

@appleyeoman Dogs are natural swimmers, even my chihuahuas are, i have 3 chihuahuas, daisy, rosie, and pepsi, pepsi is daisy's son [Daisy got pregnant from my friend's chihuahua and yes we got permission first] But each time we get a swimming pool the first time they went in water before they even touched the water there legs started to go at it and act like there swimming. Dogs just know.

Labs were originally bred for the water.... they love it. They were bred to retrieve fishermans nets in the Labrador Sea, thats where they got their name. They have webbed feet and water resistant fur that keeps them buoyant.

u can't. dogs already know by instinct. he prolly hates it because he hasn't done it before. if all else fails, carry or chuck him into the water. he will swim no matter what. although back to land right away. if ur afraid hell sink like a brick... make it shallow

Some dogs will always hate to swim trust me - I had three dogs: A Gorden setter dalmatian mix, a pit bull, and a collie. The first one was the only one who would swim. The others ALWAYS panic. We tried and put them in our lake anyway to wash them and they hated it.

thats the same with our lab until she one day aciidently went into a deep bit thinking it was shallow and she swam really well but she still doesnt choose to swim i think its a pack thing i.e...learning from other dogs

Is this pond fenced in or something so the dogs can't run off when they get curious? I know once they get older they kinda know where home is and they're not gonna go to far, but I know when my yellow was little he got a little bit curious and tried to get out and go exploring.

That's cool. Maybe then you could tell me something real quick. My yellow lab is obsessively afraid of vacuum cleaners. Like, to the point where if I even walk near the closet it is in, he'll flip out and sometimes run into a wall or fall over because he tries to start running for the back door so fast. He's also deathly afraid of random little things, like crayon boxes and the clicking sounds that binder clips make when you close them. Is there anything I can do to help him? Thanks

@leimeisei909 You should put some meat on the cleaner like on top so it's not so scary. Then take him around the vacuum cleaner when it is off, don't let him eat the meat. and give him treats and praise him when he gets close and if he touches it with his nose give him treats. Work up his trust with it first. Then turn it on and keep yourself calm and assertive and wait til he is calm and then give him treats.

My dog is just learning to swim. He still isn't used to the idea though. Labrador Retriever's are great dogs. I recommend them to anyone. They have GREAT personalities. Definitely a people person dog. ♥♥♥
