Follow through is "tennis 101" my child learned that @5 yrs old. your sensitivity shows how right I am. & Have you read the other comments about your coach? Tell him if he makes a video on a subject, he should try knowing what he's talking about....Get a grip...
I know everyone has their own teaching methods. But he can at least work on the follow through with them. Having them grab the racket with their alternate hand is pretty much standard at t his age group.
Some instructors do this because beginners usually have no idea where their ideal contact point is when hitting the ball, so this helps give them the feel of where it should be. Eventually the balls are tossed to them from the front and then hit to them later.

How can you drop the ball in front of them when ur behind the kids. Its in no way realistic to the real game. Try throwing the ball towards them.
