This song is written in danish language. Written by no other then Hans Christian Andersen!
HC Andersen, famous writer from Denmark wrote this after he had seen swedish soprano Jenny Lindh perform. And the text is a passionate love song to her.

@pianomags Totally incorrect! I guess you are "trolling" since my statement is 100% true and verified by those who are experts in H-C Andersens writing.
Using small letters at the start of a new sentence is not correct.
H C Andersen never married any woman...
Nina Hagerup was married to Edvard Grieg whom she inspired very much indeed.
But any kind of "love-connection" to H C Andersen is simply pure imagination!
@maxhansendk Hi. I wasn't trying to contradict you. Grieg wrote this song for his wife-to-be, singer Nina Hagerup and as you already know, he used a love poem written by his friend HCA. HCA wrote the poem, but Grieg composed the song. Plz do your research before trying to "burn" someone publicly.
somebody enlighen me on a certian point if s/he is able; how come a huge voice like Flagstad's is capable of reducing its volume in order for this song to sound in style of musica da camera which it is, while Franco Corelli seems unable to sing this song with a reduced tone. Is it the difference in technique, or is the Flagstad's technique more perfect? Both are known for good technique as soon as they were able to have long carrers, that's why I am confused.
@ididete, I know as much about singing as I do deep-sea fishing (that is, nothing whatsoever), but Flagstad's interpretation is slower and more thoughtful, and the accompying piano is so tentative and tender that it makes the whole piece sound more like a soliloquey than a declaration from the rooftops. I completely agree with you about Corelli, too--his is a sledgehammer approach to a delicate meditative song, whether played thunderously or gently. Too bad, too--he was a great performer.

@pianomags I have done my research a long time ago. The facts has been known before both you and me where born!
Grieg wrote the notes - So when you say he wrote "the song" you are simply wrong! (or worse).
This song is famous for its lyrics - Those lyrics were written by H C Andersen!!
The words (lyrics) were enterily projected towards Jenny Lindh. And they had absolutely nothing to do with Nina Hagerup!
I am not trying to "burn you".
You are doing that job just fine! - By yourself.

@Rumpelstiltskinsky I only care about facts!
When people post lies - I will always answer and try to put things straight!
pianomags is wrong! And I am willing to bet my life that I am right!
I have read all sources of information. Asked experts...I don´t take this lightly.
But you...Rumpelstiltskinsky dont bring any valid argument.
You want to bring your big gun...
I know primitive minds like statements like yours (bring a big gun).
Mostly those minds are between 9-12 years old.
