  • there was such a sense of grandeur to this movie...

  • I think this is my favorite part of the Motion Picture score. Eerie, chilling, and yet hopeful and inspiring.

  • I am beyond words wondering why the melodies from this soundtrack never received any Oscars at all.

People need to remove the garbage from their ears and open their hearts.

  • @AMDQuadCore1 The entire score was nominated for an Academy Award in 1979 as was the visual effects.

  • All due respect to the late Mr. Goldsmith, who is one of my favorite contemporary composers. That being said, this must be, as well: Compare 0:23 - 1:13 to the late middle section of "Neptune" from Holst's "The Planets" suite. This *isn't* plagiarism; the source of Goldsmith's inspiration strikes me as pretty obvious. And this soundtrack is his finest work, in my opinion.

  • @FreedomZealot It isn't all that uncommon for "The Planets" to be the inspiration for other themes. "Jupiter" inspired "World In Union", the Rugby World Cup Anthem - F5ZR2R3NeBI - and "Mars" - L0bcRCCg01I - esp from 2:13 - must have been the inspiration some of John Williams "Star Wars" themes and incidental music.

  • I'm curious of what they used for the twang sound

  • @Alex2424121 That twang sound, if it's what I think you're referring to is called a "Blaster beam" Essentially hitting a mortar shell against a piano string if I recall correctly. (You can look it up on Google, it'll be there under "blaster beam")

  • @LordRuehl

It's no surprise that you haven't heard of it before, it's a very specific instrument, not easily made. You should look up the information about it on Wikipedia (the information there is actually quite good). And look it up in google images to see waht this monster actually looks like ;D (it's the very first image that appears)

  • djallfiredup - you might also be thinking of the blaster beam, which was used to create the deep string sounds that served as a musical motif for Vejur. It's a 12-15 foot long instrument that is actually played with an artillery shell.

  • I can't remember but there is a special synthesizer that was used for TMP, you hear a lot of it here.

  • Remember this from when I was a kid, always a favourite!

  • one of the best musical scores I've ever heard. it's absolutely beautiful

  • @klingondude yes
