@JoeLaFigue As someone who knows virtually no French (but would like to), I got that bit. But only because I picked out Dalek and escaliers which is similar to escalator, a word we use from the more latin/French influenced part of our language. The fact that Daleks can't get up stairs is quite a common joke so it was just association. I think that's normally the case, you can pick out a few key words and build together the meaning of a sentance.

@corpsefaceS I think most people find French fairly easy to understand when it's spoken slowly and about a familiar subject, so they probably can. Also, they laugh when he says the line about Daleks not being able to go upstairs, and how it's a tragedy for them, which suggests they probably have a pretty good idea.
