  • i think everbody should know cpr

  • errr.... couldnt she put the phone on loud speaker so that the dad could be directly online with the dispatcher while the mom looked around for the Eppi shots...?

  • Man this show is old, this episode came on a few weeks before I was born.

  • Always keep your Epipen near you and make sure your family anf friends know where you keep it and how to use it. Always take it with you when you go out. It can make a big difference if you're having an asthma attack or allergic reaction! I always keep mine in my purse with the instruction booklet wrapped around it : )

  • @KryptoniteDinosawr Very important safety tip there! You never know what can happen

  • Uh i also had a asthma attack yesterday =(

  • poor kid

  • Gees 9:40? they go to bed early.

  • @Muggle423 9:40 pm is not too early. Maybe they get up early such as 4am. I turn in at 10pm. No later than that..

  • i had an asthma attack worce than this!!!!

  • who names a kid clit?

  • @Hottopicjunkie1 not clit clent or least how i heard it said

  • lol it reminds me of something.

  • @Hottopicjunkie1 It's Clint, but it does sound like Shatner says Clit at the beginning.

  • Iv'e had asthma since I was baby and twice i had to go the clinic because of an asthma attack. but that usually taks place when i get a cold of severly sick mother usually know when i wease but of course

  • I was born with asthma but it didn't kick in until the spring of 1991. My mother took me to the hospital and the doctor took care of me. They put a salt and water tube like thing in my mouth.

  • I have asthma I am 13 and I haven't had a really bad attack since I was a baby and I have inhalers and most of the time I only take them when my asthma takes my breath away and I would stop and chock on my words so fot the last 3 to 5 days I have been taking my blue and orange one. most of the time I only need the blue one but just to be safe I take both when my asthma takes my breath away

  • I want a water bed.

  • Baskit13 has uploaded a segement where a teen girl has a very severe asthama attack, so severe that she almost died. See it at watch?v=gENd6_u7MtQ

  • have asthma all year round and it gets worse when I have fever or when I am getting ill or when its really cold or really hot. But my medication is free because I'm from denmark and we get free Medical Care. :)

I also panic when i can't find my inhaler and then it just gets worse !

  • the worse part is seeing all that air around u and you cant breathe it in, i hate that feeling of panic even though you try not to u do anyways

  • Hello!Very good story!=)

He come to back to the life after an a asthma attack=)

    Thank god for it!=)

    Poor teenage boy!=(

My sister have asthma and she know she do if she got a asthma attack.=)

She take care and she have two child and they know their mom have asthma and her husband too.

    Give the story 5 star!=)

    Greeting TheCARRE74.=)

  • I've had asthma since I was six months old. It was bad and poorly controlled until I was eight or so, and then when I was 14, it was so good that the Dr took me off medication entirely... but it came back last winter, and it hasn't really been controlled since. The doctor is planning to put me on oral steroids if the medication I'm on right now doesn't work. It sucks, because I used to have a lot of fun going for runs and doing karate, and I can't even go for a walk anymore.

  • im sorry to here that i have it and my girl has it as well

  • @BASCKIT13 Did you say that you know someone who has asthma?

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sure virtually everyone knows someone with asthma, if they don't have it themselves (and tens of millions of people probably have it and don't know it)

  • I really feel so bad for all of those people who have athsma

  • they should not panic

  • I have athsma when you take an athsma attack there is a 99% chance your going to panic. It's just instinct your muscles tighten up and your chest is pushing against you and then your lungs would reject the air your getting

  • asthma attacks are scary and thanks to my stupid brother i had 1 yesterday because he chased me around and suffocated me with a pillow and i told him to stop and he didn't listen to me until he finally realized i wasn't joking and took me to the hospital but i stopped breathing in the car + he got a speeding ticket

  • That sounds like my brother when he was a teenager.

He knew I'm allergic to bees, so he tied me to a tree and sprayed a hose on the bee hive in the eaves under the house. Next to the tree.

All these bees came zooming out and flying angrily all over the place.

    IDK how I didn't get stung but I'm glad I didn't.

  • It would be a good idea for parents of asthmatics to know CPR. Everyone, actually, should know it.

  • @hollyzone Now they've arranged the CPR courses so that, even if you're not trained you can still do compressions. If you're not trained, you can't do airway management, but you can give the patient 100 compressions a minute.

The AHA Physician Panel changed it to that a few months ago.

  • The ting is I think maybe you people would the same thing if you were in those parents positions. I mean they paniked so would I.

  • I was in hospital last weekend and nearly died of an asthma attack. I am 15 nd just got diagnosed.

  • Then NicolaChildNicole, you should tell your friends and family how to know and do CPR because it is really important if you just got diagnosed!

  • I Suffered a massive Asthma attack this morning.

  • Hope you are doing better.

  • I have a question. I have asthma but havent had an attack for like 6 to 7 years. When I am being like physical active or running at school or a sport I maybe start breathing really heavy. I dont know if my asthma is coming back or it is just normal.

  • I'm a paramedic but I also have asthma.

You have to breathe a certain way when you're running to prevent an exercise-induce asthma attack.

You breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth at an even pace and deeper than usual. Do this the whole time you're running and until your breathing becomes regular again.

That's the only way I can work for the Fire Department w/out having an attack.

  • ok thank you for replying well do you think my asthma could be coming back. or is it because i have it.

  • You won't know if it's returning unless you get a doctor to give you a routine checkup, and listen to your lung sounds.

I say a routine checkup, b/c it costs less than going to a specialist, and the doctor will still be able to tell you if he or she hears the lung sounds consistent with asthma.

  • I have athsma theres no way it will stop. Just when you think it's gone it strikes you when you least expect it or when you are having a really bad time

  • yeah i do think it is coming back because like if im walking i start to breath really heavy or if im just lying in bed but my dad doesnt think it is he just thinks it its normal i dont know what to do

  • All you can do is take your inhalors regularly and if you feel and keep your treatment nearby just incase an attack comes unexpectedly

  • i dont have an inhalor the said i didnt need it anymore and took it away

  • Best thing to do is go to the doctors and tell them how you feel.

  • I have an history of asthma, but I haven't had an attack in a long time and my asthma seems to in control. I haven't used an inhaler for a long time as well.

  • Sounds like me (last had issues over 10 years ago), but sometimes it can come back suddenly as well.

  • First, I'm going to say ask your doctor.

That said, I am a non asthmatic, and my breathing gets heavier after a good run or any other activity. I wouldn't be worried unless you actually have trouble breathing.

But I am not a doctor, get a real medical opinion.

  • That sounds like you might need checking for asthma yourself...since that is not normal.

  • It's not normal for your breathing to change after strenuous activity? What planet are you from?

Try running 10 blocks as fast as you can, tell me you aren't panting.

  • @GarfieldVsSnoopy If it had been that massive then you'd still have been in hospital.

  • @GarfieldVsSnoopy I had a severe attack two days ago. I hope you're feeling better. Asthma love, :)

  • i love Watching Recuse 911

  • They did not handle it well...I mean I've seen some hysterical parents but jeez

  • When you become a paramedic, you see even worse parents than that. People who throw things at you when you tell them their son or daughter died-or try to physically attack you. Then there are those who scream at the top of their lungs while you're trying to revive their child.

I hate giving some parents sad news. I feel like the messenger of olden days, who got her head chopped off for bringing such news.

You have to really want this job in order to keep it.

  • Yea I know I am on the rig too, see the same things. But I am not going to be a paramedic. I dont like EMS all that much, got a chip on their shoulders. I was a firefighter first. I'll stick with that. And if I can get off my ass to run and meet the quota, police academy.

  • I used to be a firefighter, but they won't let me do it now.

My daughter's dad died in a fire, and the captain thinks I'm too affected by the memory to be an effective firefighter.

  • I'm sorry to hear that.

  • My Girlfriend suffered a Asthma Attack while working at a Nursing Home.

  • thats some hysterical parents

  • been there, done that.............

  • Asthma episodes give me chills. When I was 12 I had an asthma attack bad enough that I went into respiratory arrest, and then again in 2007, when I was 22. People just don't realize how deadly asthma can be. My symptoms are subtle as well and can really throw me for a loop without notice.

CPR is great for a lot of things, but its not always effective for asthmatics. When your lungs are closed tight, neither you nor a rescue breather can get air in!

  • WOW I actually remember this episode I used to love this show when it was on I was like 5 and watched it everytime it came on

  • Volunteer paramedic = hero.

  • the guy is like whens th D###! ambulance getting here!

  • my god these people are stupid!!!!!!!

  • I notice is this segement and the asthma kid in #619 they both played basketball in fron of their houses at the end of the segment.

  • this is really scary i used to have terrible asthma attacks but never like this and i only went to the hospital 4 times for it. that poor boy i really really do feel for him =] =[

  • I think the 911 Dispatchers do a wonderful job, but it would be even better if they gave the panicking caller quick instruction in how to stay calm.

That would help the caller remain level-headed instead of panicking again and again throughout the procedure.

    The quick instruction:

Tell the caller to breathe in through her nose and out through her mouth at an even pace and to continue doing so the whole time she's doing the procedure.

  • I don't like to judge people, but I do wonder why parents of an asthmatic wouldn't learn CPR.

You'd think they would have found the need to know Basic Airway Management before an emergency arose.

  • Is anyone able to remember what happens in the next segment??

Something about a cop that dreams his wife gets in an accident, when he gets in an accident himself.

Anyone care to be more elaborate and more specific!

  • I am not sure because I don't remember much...but isn't the cop afraid to tell to his wife about his dream about her getting into a wreck.

Or I think the cop wakes up out of a cold sweat from his waterbed at the beginning of the segment due to his frightening dream that he does not reviel to his wife untill before he has his wreck.

It's before the cop has his wreck I think is when he calls home to his wife while on duty from a pay phone to tell her about his dream.

  • He then has his wreck after getting off the phone I am assuming while pursuing the suspect.

After another officer of the cop in the wreck calls his wife, the wife says "I immediately thought back to what he told me on the phone about the dream he had. But it did not happen to me. It has happened to him"

  • the dispatcher's pretty!

  • Thank you for posting this. This is of my little brother Clint. We lost the tape we received and have been looking for it for a long time. Clint had one other asthma attack this bad and he almost died again. This was two years ago. It was really scary. Anyway, I can't wait to tell Clint this is out here! He will be pumped...thanks for posting it.

  • He would be 31 now? Anyway, that might be a good segment if the show were to ever return on the air. For some reason, they say that asthma can either go away (pretty much) or get worse as life goes on. Although I would say that 16 years between major attacks is rather unusual; there wasn't anything severe in between?

  • Clint's asthma has never went away. He has been in the hospital many times since he was 12. He can usually tell when things are getting out of his control and then he'll go to the emergency room. Certain times of the year tend to be worse. The attack he had a couple years ago came without any real warning and he had to be revived again. It was a close call. He woke up and it was too late. Luckily my dad was home and heard him. He called 911 right away.

  • he still lives in the same house? Wow! This new attack must have not been as "dramatized" as the one 17 years ago! Ha, I wonder if the same dispatcher was there!

  • Imagine all the new segments that could be shown if 911 was still airing??

But the real question is, would Shatner be host??

No one can replace the Shat-man!

  • i have asthma and ive stopped breathing a few times ( in the hospital phew) but my mum is a nurse so she knows cpr and the rest if my family does aswell cuz my brother has asthma to but not as bad ive been to hospital 4 or 5 times from asthma

  • I have asthma. It sucks ass. But I try to keep it in perspective too, because my boyfriend has Crohn's Disease. I'm sure glad I don't have that!

  • I have asthma too, but what's Crohn's Disease.

  • Thanks for posting, been looking for this one.

  • It is really helpful to reward helping pros cause they see the worst and need the good times to get thru the bad.

  • i have pnemonia and asthma... i used to have to use the equipment but not any more and night is asthma attack time. i never have stopped breathing and ive had both ever since i was a baby. my parents used to have to sleep on the floor when i was in the hospital. i was in there for a long time. the pnemonia is going away, and so is the asthma. i havn't coughed ever sinse a week ago

  • i've had asthma since i was a baby but it disappeared but now coming back again and i av no equipment at all lol. I mite go doctors soon xx

  • There wasn't an another asthma attack segment after this one until 605 one which is called Teen Night Asthma.

  • I HATE ASTHMA. Ive got it when I was 6. And now, I'm 12. But earlier this year, I had to go to a specialist because it was so bad! And I did a breathing test thing. And I was breathing like a 70 year old. I was about to go to the hospital. fbj

  • Hope you're breathing a bit better now. I myself had mild asthma when I was younger, and now as an adult I'm questioning whether it went away or not.

  • It doesn't really go away, but sometimes it can be dormant for a long time, but it can re-appear without much warning at all. I'm the same way (I haven't really had any problems for almost 10 years).

  • I HAVE ASTHMA, AND HAVE HAD A FEW ATTACKS, AND ONE, Where I had to go to the hospital, for FIVE DAYs.

I ALMOST HAD TO BE PUT ON A VENTILATOR.

  • your right i did have the same!!! happy7117

  • If a family has a child with asthma, they should be trained for first aid or CPR to try and help save their own child. That is very bad. I have a very good friend that has asthma and ive been trained in CPR and ive actually saved her life one day.

  • I can't believe the parents having a child with a respiratory disease, did not know CPR! And with him getting worse overtime he was obviously not being medicated properly. Probably just bronchodilators instead of anti-inflammatory/steroid treatment.

  • Is it just me or the asthma attack victim wasn't on the interview scenes like most victims on that show?

  • I've had asthma ever since I was about 5 or 6, but it seems to have since greatly settled down. I only had one serious attack, but I was saved, thanks to my breathing machine.

  • asthma is sometimes made of in todays world but since my diagnose i have found that it is not a laughing matter, you see one breathing heavy dont ignore them when they brush you away seek help quickly! i have had asthma all my life and have had some very close calls......

  • I have asthma and ive neva had anything like this. So i dont reli no whats its like!!

I think the only time ive had a bad asthma attack was when they diagnosed me with it at 5months. I am lucky i have a inhaler well i have three but still.

  • Anyone have the segment that follows this one? The one in the preview at the end of this clip.

  • another thing, even on a school night, what 12 year old regularly goes to bed that early (9:48P.M.), and even more, what parents do

  • Perhaps the parents get up early for work?

  • did they have inhalers back then because I've seen 2 asthma videos where they used those machine things

  • I think I just caught a mistake.

    Pause at :59 seconds.

His clock says 10:57 am, when it should be 10:57 pm.

I have that same sort of alarm clock,so I know how to read am or pm on those things as I'm sure anyone who has those kinds of clocks can.

  • How do you know that clock is 12 hours off?

  • I have the same kind of clock he does. His clock is 10:57 am, when it should be 10:57 pm.

If anyone has the same kind of clock radio he does and knows how to read those kind of clocks, they will know what I mean.

It's sort of useless and silly to argue if I'm right or not about the time on his clock, because it would be making a mountain out of a molehill...!

  • I don't understand why the machine was all the way in the bathroom. Why didn't they just keep it in the son's bedroom?

  • Or have the machine sitting on a small table next to his night stand. I need to re-watch to see if he has a night stand or not.

  • The saddest thing about this episode is that it NEVER HAD TO HAPPEN. It wasn't until AFTER their son nearly died that the PARENTS took their son's asthma seriously. Hopefully other parents won't make the same mistake.

  • geez this episode even makes me feel anxious. breathing problems is my number 1 fear

  • Do you have the third segement of #211, where a man drowns in a river in Arlington, VA? I would like to see it

  • How do they reenact this with the story line

  • Do you have the segment after this one?

  • hey the docu segment from this eppie is also on here and on this episode.

  • that was scorry

  • imho the more scarier the segment is the better a life will be saved as in this segment, or Jean Collins who does cpr as her baby stops breathing.

  • speaking of this "Arthur fiedler" segment marlin from #623 the depacote segment looks a little like Poltergeist's heather o' rourke.

  • I never thought of that, but I think your right.

I have never seen any of the Poltergeist movies, just bits and pieces.

Wasn't Heather O'Rourke the little blond girl in Poltergeist?

Who knows if Heather played Marlin during the re-enactment??

The real Marlin during her interview piece and the Marlin during the re-enactment look totaly different.

  • no heather died from intestinal stenosis in 1988,thus this was way before #623.

  • yes it's the little girl in the film.

  • There were no asthma/child asthma segments in season 1 so this is the very first child asthma/asthma episode.

  • And the next one wasn't until 605, nearly 4 years later.

  • it's actually #618

  • What about the fiance asthma one?

  • oh yeah, #121

  • yeah I forgot about that one, it was a season 1 episode, by the way allgood do you have that episode?

  • Hey, that #121 sounds like a good one!

The word "fiance" makes me think it's probably a husband who has an attack.

  • it's in Holland and yes as in michigan.

  • @happy7117 it's actually #122 the fiancee asthma episode.

  • the scene that's memorable in this segment is when the father "out of frustration" yells for his son to be ok or something along those lines.

  • wow, thanks for uploading this!

    scarier than I thought!

    haha

  • I believe there is a segment from this episode where a man drowns in a river. Do you or Allgood have that segment, Beatlemoe? If so, could either one of you guys put it up when you get the chance? Thank you very much.

  • It's the 3rd seg.

Man drowns in river (April 28, 1990. Arlington, Virginia

  • Hi there, unfortunately i can't post the segment because it's incomplete.

  • That's a bum rap, dude.

  • Perfect, an incomplete third segment. That's all we need to hear.

  • @BeatleMoe I v'e a couple asthma attacks last year because I was living in an apartment complex that had a broken air conditioner.

  • Clint looks like he's using the same machine Michael Haywood was using during Child Asthma II

  • Maybe they were the same machine that CBS held back for the re-enactments?

  • Realy? I thought that was their own machine bought by the parents to help with Clint's asthma.

Or probably the Haywood family borrowed this same machine to use for their re-enactment.

    Those are just theories though.

  • Thank god. It's the Arthur Feilder segment.

    Thanks tons Zach.

  • it's Arthur Fiedler.

  • it's arthur fiedler, not fielder.

  • Wasn't sure of spelling.

  • Have you seen a pic of the actual arthur fiedler I think there are vids of him on here.

  • I have tried to find some good pictures on the net of Arthur to compare with the father in this segment to see how much they look alike to each other but no luck.

  • actually youtube has some vids of him.

  • wat the next one looks pretty good

    lucky kid

  • 2. Cop crashes during pursuit after dreaming that his wife was killed in a car accident (April 4, 1988. Knoxville, Tennessee)
