Bic Pens are fine, they are jsut a bit broad on the thickness of the lines and opacity, being able to use crappier products and making something good is an excellent skill, I use Bic Pens at school cuz im cheap, but i can still make something decent...
Soft pencils, around 7B or 8B are perfect for quick car sketching/thumbnails.
