  • reminds me of an instrument jews would play................I am not sure why

  • Sandor Kuti is a great cimbalom player, who performs many styles, including excellent jazz ! Just wishing to have more of his uploads.

  • FAIL u actually hear the camera zoom must be a really old one whahaha but it but awesome dumbs up keep up the good work

  • it sounds like something i heard in russian movie somewhere

  • anyone know the name of the tune he's playing?

  • sounds great

  • The song sounds very similar to crepuscolo sul mare from ocean's 12

  • you just stiped a piano

  • It is similar to the Santur in iran or even the Kanun of Turkey. Same family.

  • Wow! Sounds like a historical piano. (similar to the ones Mozart would have used)

  • kipp, if you have a cymbalom, thats great, because it has "all" the notes that are on a piano, the black and white keys, where as a regular ham. dulcimer does not--your notes are in every chord progression-from low to high, so you can play it just like a piano--which is great!!(i know its a pain to tune, but its worth it just to hear the sound of it!!)

  • "cymbál" in czech - really based in Moravian folklore music - you'll enjoy it best way with Morawian wine :-)

  • this instrument is in the Romanian tradition xD ..it's callet tambal here

  • its a dulcimer. not that exotic haha

  • @rurouniofeast actually, it's a cymbalom. there is a difference.

  • v good

  • This instrument is made in Budapest indeed. Here it is very popular and played in almost all Gypsy bands.

  • The cymbalon is actually quite common in Romania. It's mostly used to play traditional Gipsy music (at least until the digital revolution, now everyone's using MIDI controllers, it's so much easier.)

  • It seems to me to be like a shamisen

  • This seems to me a lot like the sound of a piano and him just directly striking the strings instead of using keys. It sounds so beautiful and is amazing to watch I've never seen something like this before thanks for posting.

  • sounds like a piano.

  • fat guy !

  • I want a cymbalon soo bad but I don't have enough space in my room... Pity...

    Beautiful song!

  • Btw. So people know, the song is "What are you doing for the rest of your life".

  • cool, but the noise from the motor drive in your recording equipment was a tad off putting....lol

  • Pretty neat instrument, although, to me all it seems like is the inside of a piano turned horizontally and hitting the strings themselves. It's probably more intricate than that.

  • does anyone know the name of this beautiful song?

  • It looks like a dulcimer, no ?

  • youtube.com/watch?v=61-IeBf3RSM

Greek traditional music(santuri) from Mikra Asia(Asia Minor)

  • That looks very similar to a traditional Chinese instrument called yang qin, look it up on wikipedia.

  • do you know where i could get something like this in canada?

  • @Revandeman If you are still looking for one, PM me. I know of one for sale in Montreal and one in Vancouver.

  • Its a CimBalom a Hungarian Invented it

  • It sounds like a mixture between the piano and harp...beautiful.

  • OH MY GOSH! it's a distant cousin to the ones, yang qin, that I'm playing. This sound so beautiful too! :)

  • this is awesome, got any more??

  • This is an elaborate version of an instrument known as the Hammered Dulcimer. Similar in many respects to a piano, except the musician uses a pair of "hammers" to manually strike the notes instead of pressing keys which activate lever-driven hammers in the case of a piano.

  • in germany u call it "Hackbrett" and its quit normal in the folk music

  • santour is persian..

  • the sun of the dulcimer

  • What a gorgeous instrument!

  • Thats pretty good

Try some Ion Miu - he will blow you away!

  • It has a beautiful sound. And you're great at playing it.

  • FINALLY a way for us drummers to play piano

  • @DrinkingRoses But there have always been so many ways for drummers to play piano and the xylophone is one of them :). Of course pianists get the best deal lol! They can play drums through this or play the guitar through the spinet or play the violin through the nyckelharpa etc etc.

  • lol and mattmurdockcz is a retard lol

  • dood thats a ghetto piano is what that is :D

  • bah, another difference between this and the hammered dulcimer is that this instrument has pedals, like a piano. Calling the Cimbalom a dulcimer is like calling a french horn a tuba. Just plain wrong!

  • Wow, that was really beautiful performance.

    those camera sounds... arrrgh!

  • It's a hammered dulcimer. Rich Mullins style ftw

  • thatd be fkn hard to play..

  • Whatever song he was playing gave me goosebumps. Absolutely beautiful indeed!

  • It's like a cross between a piano and a harp... I like it

  • hah, thats a pretty good description!

  • Jól cimbalmazik hé!:) Ezt szeretem! Ilyen exotikus lenne a cimbalom?

  • And you're too homophobic.

  • if you mean TheK54, then you are so right!

  • its just music idiot

  • imbecil

  • y m i an imbecil??? ITS MUSIC

  • @TheK54 and you are fat ugly and your only lover is your xbox

  • @TheK54 you can judge it when you can do it, numb nuts

  • @TheK54 how is this gay? i see no homosexuality in this. he is playing an instrument well.....i don't understand how it is gay....

  • O.M.G. AMAZING XDD!!!

  • OMG? what's exotic on this instrument? It's cimbalom and It's usualy tha main folk instrument at Moravia!

  • Yeah it's some sort of a dulcimer....

  • it looks like a very large hammered dulcimer with dampers

  • To je cimbálovka vy hovada. Nic exotickýho :D

  • pro nás ne :) zatím

  • this reminds me a lot of the hammer dulcemer (i dont know how to spell that)

  • This is called Santoor... I believe that its originally from Persia; it was heavily implemented in the old Iraqi music although the playing style is much different from this one.

  • Blue Man Group uses one on their albums.

  • Wow that would be super hard on a piano, this is even more precise, you have to hit the right spot by memorization etc. Absolutely amazing.

  • pain in the ass to tune:P

  • Woah, that's weird. My name's Nathan and my dad tunes pianos and someone asked him to tune one of these before lol

And yea, it's a pain in the ass

  • this is the instrument used for the intro of life in tecnicolor by coldplay if anyones interested... very lovely sound

  • This is amazing and strange

  • I was moved, beautiful.

  • cimbalom = Hungarian / Tsambal = Romaian

The instrument looks like a "Bohak" from Budapest Hungary.

This is a hammered dulcimer with almost 5 octave CHROMATIC range with dampers. As good as the Hungarian gypsies are at playing it, the Romanian ones are quite a bit better !

  • beautiful.

  • It is called Santur or Santoor in Indian and Arabic music! ;)

  • Isn't this instrument from eastern europa? It made the BO of the french film ''Le grand blond a la chaussure noire''. A very good film from 80's

  • good play

  • Comment removed

  • It's sad how you so flippantly call me dumb. Maybe your parents should have been less critical of you.

It does say, 'cymbalom' in the description, so I don't really see where you get this dumb thing from.

  • I have read the description, but EXOTIC INSTRUMENT and in short you don't know that this is cymbalom... I can understant if you don't know what is violinophone or jazzophone but cymbalom...

  • In persian it is called a santur.

  • @MattMurdockCZ he says cymbalom. its right in the desc.

  • the only way i've seen one played is with blades on the fingers; i have no idea which is the "right way". this way sounds much like a piano. there's a guy in my hometown of berkeley, ca that plays that at local festivals and fairs. very cool, thanks for sharing.

  • its a cimbalom

  • it looks like a variation on a hammered dulcimer

  • what in the world that was the carzyiest thing i ever seen unbelieveable i wish i could do that

  • this guy is a master yo!

  • TOCA PARA DIOS Y SERAS ADMIRADO

  • that was greaaat

  • wow hows that exotic it works the same as a piano but with out keys and he hitting the strings

  • Dude that rocked

  • Exquisite performance.

  • edesanyad exotikus hangszer!!

az egy cimbalom, magyar hangszer..latszik turista vagy nem magyar.

thats not indian instrument, thats 100% pure hungarian.look after it.

  • The original version of this instrument is the Persian santur (or santour), it spread from Persia to India during the Persian empire.

  • on watchin this vid, i actually went out nd got a cymbalom! its so hard to play :( but i am determind to get good at it lol

  • Wow, awesome! Are you going to get some video and show me details about it?

  • @feeleze241 --feeleze--how are you doing w/your cymbalom? It has all the notes that are on a piano, not like a regular ham. dulcimer which does not! i know its a pain to tune, but its worth it to just hear the sound of it!

  • basically a piano wiht out keys,

  • retard, a piano, is a cymbalom with keys, thiz is the instument tht waz invented 1st, thn it was modified into a piano

  • hmmm! That instrument is exactly like the santoor in India! :) So beautiful!

  • Now that's a real deal Dulcimer player. Beautiful music, and instrument! Reminds me of sound from Soviet era movies.

  • That's just a beautiful sound!

  • Bravo Sangyi ;-) yeeeeeee

  • Nagyon szép...

  • This is a Hungarian instrument! Cimbalom

  • im my language named CIMBÁL!!

  • It's basically an piano without the hammers. But still a beautiful sounding instrument.

  • you have bad grammar

  • Quote from wikipedia: The dulcimer's origin is uncertain, but tradition holds it was invented in Iran some 2000 years ago, where it is called a Santur (cf. the folkloric Kashmiri Santoor).

Just thought I should post it here to end the origin argument.

  • Hi...Search youtube "Cymbalom Legacy"..you will find out a bit more about this..I play guitar, violin, and a little piano, but my dream is to become proficient on this most beautiful of all instruments. ...Some Day...

  • End an argument on YouTube? You must be new here... :)

  • Eh? I hve one of those The guy who sold it me said it was a "HammerDulcimer

  • PLease, what is the name of the song is [played????Any idea?Than you

  • This is "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life," a jazz standard by pianist and composer Michel Legrand.

  • Yehh..definately not a dulcimer.

  • Yes it is...

  • its called a dulcumer...theyre used all around the world in every culture

  • not necicarly it is also ukraian

  • Cimbalom!!!!!Ez Magyar/Cigány hangszer!!

  • This is hungarian instrument... Cimbalom

  • This is hungarian instrument... Cimbalom

  • (I don;t mean to a be a know it all, but) This instrument is very similar to a hammered dulcimer, but there are a few key differences in tuning and construction so that a dulcimer player would not be able to play a cymbalaum without taking a very long time to relearn the layout. I'm sure you've been told that there are other similar instruments in Iran, India, and China with their own deferences. The distinguishing features of this, the cymbalaum are a sustain pedal and soft mallets.

  • hammered dulcimer...old school!

  • yes ktokarski89 my name is Kuti Sandor

  • lets see you play that bitch

  • This instrument does seem to work like a piano. This has nothing to do with how hard it is to play it.

  • Cochon.

  • this instrument is really similar to the chinese yang qin. it's amazing to see all the parallels of different instruments of different cultures. isn't it wonderful to see how even people of different cultures are able to make very similar instruments even in the olden eras?

  • It is the exact same thing as a piano except, your move the hammers.

  • u mean to say "Tzambal"

  • hello kuti,mi van,nem is kosontel amikor itt votal,

  • But it is spelled "santoor", so try searching with this spelling and you'll get so many videos... heh heh.

  • Heh heh, it is called a "suntoor" here in India.

  • Is that Sandor Kuti? I met him at a concert in New Jersey if it is.

  • he's playing at a very good speed and preformance...

  • Everything else he played was really, really fast!

  • it is called "cimbalom" in hungarian. i dont know the exact origin, but it is kind of traditional instrument in hungary, especially favoured by gipsies, like this fellow. though he is playing jazz on it, not traditional :)

  • My cow orker asked him to play something he'd recognize. The music was more traditional before I started recording, and it was beautiful.

  • beautiful sound! i have never seen this instrument, but i like such kind music.

  • that is infact a cymbalom, a hammered dulcimer doesnt have the low strings

  • in english its a concert size hammered dulcimer!

  • we saw a cymbalom at the symphony this week! Awesome & they DO play fast!!!

  • This was recorded prior to a rehearsal at the Orange County Performing Arts Center on October 26; this wouldn't happen to be where you went?
