Do you guys have lots of meets, i have had my dakota since 07.. take a look at the videos and i not to far away from chicago a little north of madison
Also, the Dakota RT, if I'm not mistaken, is still the best handling truck package ever offered from the factory. There's more to it than just an engine!
Actually the sport came with a 3.9L v6 and a 5.2L V8 up until 2000. In 2001 Chrysler dropped the 5.2 and started offering it with the 4.7 SOHC V8. The Quad cab sport was the exception though which Dodge did also offer a 5.9 option.
Of course the RT option always came with the 5.9 v8. As far as the 5 speed 4.7/5.2 limited slip goes, that's up for debate. I'v heard of both trucks running as low as 14.7 in stock form.
Dodge never mentioned that the 5.2 2wd Dakota regular cab with a 5-speed stick and 3.73 limited slip rear end would mop the floor with an RT. Mine was purple.
I wrenched on those trucks when they were new. They didn't impress me then and they don't impress me now.
we havent had a chicago meet in like 4 years. we used to meet in hoffman estates like the first sunday of every month. everyone moved on to other cars. some of us still have our trucks. the yellow one you see in this vid i see drive by my work every day. its all beat up the front and back is crashed up like the guy spun out and pinballed on some stuff in the snow or something. its sad.
ye i just got a 1999 r/t with 140000 miles on it but its in good shape surprisingly, i plan to add a AEM cold intake and put some flowmasters on it (id rather have magna flow but to expensive), its already has a mopar pcm in it what. I was wonderin how much a weight reduction would cost and what other upgrades I can do to it?
@dws69 Fix a flat is terrible and causes a big mess, if you are going that route, just learn how to use tire plugs and have a small inflator handy. If you want good weight reduction, I would suggest dumping the rear bumper and all brackets in favor of a urethane roll pan, like Xenon makes. Not saying to get Xenon in particular, that's just the way I went.
oh i remember the good old days with the blacksheep... i saw bob at a LX forums meet. some of jed's and jimbeam's parts are on my truck still. matt bought a cyclone. some teenager has bobs truck and is beating it into the ground. i have my truck still i took the blower off and made it a daily driver cause i got a sick ass SRT Charger for my fun car now...
Hey jontoad! I remember you back in the Buona Beef meet days! I had a 99 Red and then then an 01 Silver R/T w/ Shaker and "8 UR SVT" plates. I'm sure your enjoying your new ride!

I usually don't like white, but that R/T with the orange racing stripes is GORGEOUS.

I have a 2wd 1997 Dodge Dakota Sport with the 318 Magnum with 168k miles. I wonder if it can keep up with these R/Ts?

whats the difference between the RT and Sport?
BossHogg281 3 years ago
sport = V6
R/T = V8
pedrozanonps3 3 years ago
r/t = 5.9 liter v8
sport can have v6 or 5.2 liter v8
in mexico and south of U.S.A the 5.9 motor never made it the r/t instead came with the 5.2 commonly seen in the us

Id rather not get rid of it because its not worth that much, only like 4k, but its really a fun truck. Love to spin the tires.
dws69 3 years ago
The easiest weight reduction you can do is to drop that full size spare tire and replace it with a can of fixaflat.
RoRsChAcHsReAlM 3 years ago
lmao ye i already did, fuck the reduction ill prolly get a carboretor and manifold, headers but then it gets really loud, just a road car.

@RoRsChAcHsReAlM Fix a flat is terrible and makes a mess, learn how to use tire plugs and get a small air compressor :D
