i love this film, it's so classic of the decade.peter fonda is great in this and love the way he handles the driving scenes.susan george is the one who seems crazy in the film and adam roarke who i am a big fan of was my favorite in the film.vic morrow was excellent as usual as the sheriff. it's a fun movie with a shocking ending which blew me away when i first saw it !
I remember this and 'Vanishing Point' from the early '70s, but couldn't think of the names (I couldn't have been older than 3 or 4 at the time). Finally some closure (and two planned purchases)!
Yeah, make heroes out of people who kidnap a woman and her child right out of their home so they can have money for a race. I saw this movie at the theater when I was a kid. The plot and story means nothing in these movies. All that matters are the car chases, which are thrilling and my Mother loved them!
This got to be one of the best car chases you ever see with a 69 Dodge Charger. They should used 69 Charger throughout the whole movie than the piece crap 66 Chevy..This is the best movie Peter Fonda ever did..The best part of the movie is when Vic Morrow from helicopter pretended too send out all police units and Peter Fonda is driving 120 mph in 69 Charger all over the place..awesomeeeee..If there is a remake its gonna have too out drive the real Dirty Mary Crazy Larry.
I remember seeing this when i was a kid and it stuck to me all these years. This was the times when making a movie like this showcased the stuntman more than the actor.NO cgi or special effects.Movie making was young in this era.I also love the movie "Aloha bobby and rose" and "The Van"
Am always amazed at how many people love this film. Peter Fonda, Susan George, Roddy Mcdowell, and the great Vic Morrow..a great film for what it is..the best place to see this was in a drive-in, which I did numbers of times..Classic Car chases althoughout, and ending not to be believed..
peter fonda always got shit for all the so called "bad" movies that he made, but this one and others he made were "very raw" for the time (everything shot on location), peter is an actor that made ground-breaking films that computer tricks could never do,.(realism)...while his sister jane always played it safe, as a teenager in the 70's, i was lucky that i grew up at the drive-in and saw this movie and more like it...plus, HE'S BEYOND HOT LOOKING in this film,.buy the dvd, it 's worth it
Love the movie but this dialogue makes no sense. Listen to how they talk, its like a fifth grader wrote the script. Me being a car guy please translate this part of the movie for me. The part when the cop picks up the new patrol car and asks whats my top end and the mechanic says Its unlimited. WTF does that mean. Please no more british guys directing a car chase movie in america.
@lovthaigurlz back in those days, unlimited meant that the cop car engine had enough horsepower to catch anything currently on the road...
the ability of the Driver of the cop car, would be the limit.
in fact,if frank hadnt gotten hit by that wagon into the pole, its likely he would have run them off the road,as he had the heavier car,and was determined to use it.
@RobsMusicBox Bullshit!! Its Obvious your new to the car scene. And I suppose tonight when you watch Bullit your going to believe that Mustang can catch that black Charger. And dont email me with another Bullshit reason because I know for a fact they did everything to that Mustang possible(engine bracing)just so it could keep up with the Charger. STEVE MCQUEEN HIMSELF SAID THAT!!.
@lovthaigurlz .how old are you?..ive been doing cars for 30 years okay?.
.it wasnt bs you obviously dont know squat and geez dude, way to be a hater..for real..now im sorry i wasted my time answering your question..
and btw,i know all about bullit and im wondering why you had a spas moment about that when nothing was said or implied....do yourself a favor and seek mental help..
I've got this movie on VHS on the old Magnetic Video label. This movie has amazing stunt work, and a surprise ending that drove my sister-in-law nuts. lol. Of course she didn't like the ending of Duel either. :) Thanks for the upload.
Fantastic film, the one that fuelled my passion for American cars, so much so that I've owned 2 Roadrunners, a '68 and a '71 never had a charger though :(... maybe one day.
I asked my work colleague to video tape it for me many years back.. he was lucky, had Sky tv.
And the best thing of all is that I would eventually end up working for Susan George and her husband Simon Maccorkindale on their Arabian Stud farm in Somerset.
I remember going to see this movie with my mom and dad at the drive in. We had a 70 R/T charger at the time. It was all black. We still have a few drive in's around here in Ohio. I own the movie also. And also didn't see roddy mcdowall's name in the credits. Hmmmm I miss those old days with the super hot cars.
One of my favorite films of the 1970's, with a truly unbelievable ending. I won't reveal what that ending is for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. But I will say that it's an ending that no Hollywood film would use today.
I love this movie and remember when it came out. I liked the 66 Impala, and that hot charger. I miss the days when American cars were really American, no matter what make or model they were good solid cars with style and power. Nicely done also with all the rural footage in CA.
@regency98us I agree although i'm not american. The american cars in this times were great. I don't like the design of most modern cars and how they are all made of plastic and electronics. I once had the opportunity to drive with a 76 (if i'm not mistaken, i'm no expert in this field) Mustang a couple of rounds, that felt like driving with respect in the machine you're sitting in.
I saw this movie and another for 50 cents in 1974. my friend and i loved it. we rode our bikes home and thought we were crazy larry. so much fun. I wonder if the canyon theartre in san dimas ca. is still there? Ironic that vic morrow died from a helicopter takin off his head.
Police car is a 1970 fury .. What a car..I have one, Im about to own another.. Thinking of painting the 4 door like the black and white in the movie.. should be a blast at the local car shows...
true, the new chargers and challengers are all plastic,,,fucking front grille on a challenger is cheap peice of shit,,,, for 40K i would rather own a real one such as a 440-4speed.... the new hemis dont sound like hemi's,, they are fucking you all in the ass if you think they have any thing like the old ones
I'll say it was. i didn't even know this movie existed until a few years ago (i was born in 1979) and always thought that scene was just a scene made for the Fall Guy (it's shown in the intro for that show)
Look up "mrlocation dirty mary" on Google. Some guy has gone around and taken pics of all the filmiing locations in good old, hot ass central valley, Farmington, CA! Filmed out by all the almond orchards.
It was an action-drama with one of the most shocking endings of any movie in its genre. Larry and Mary were not a couple or even a team - she was a cheap floozy that he picked up one night and he was a crazy race car driver who stole money to finance his race career. Mary had nothing to do with the theft and she only came along for the ride because she was bored and had nothing to do.
My brother had a 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 440 magnum, slot mags, and slicks on the back-BADASS car. I think it was the same yellow as Dirty Larry's car. Probably so-both Mopar.
There's one thing i don't understand.I have this movie, but in my movie the Dodge Charger has green color.P.s.When i watch movies like this one or Vanishing point and so on,i get sad.70's seems to me a nice times, even if i was born only in 1985.
The blue 1966 Chevy Impala hardtop was an actual Los Angeles car that carried license plate #RTG-911 which was a correct alphanumeric sequence that issued out of the LA DMV in late 1965.
Likewise the yellow Dodge Charger license plate number, #938-DAN was a correct 1971 blue plate issue that fit well on that car.
Back then they were not always concerned with fake movie license plates on the cars like they are today, when they have fake alphanumeric sequences on them.
Right, kind of like in old movies where they used actual valid phone numbers, and then people would dial the numbers expecting -- what? A character from the movie to answer the phone? Pop songs also used to have real phone numbers in the lyrics -- remember the Marvelettes' "Beechwood 4-5789" and Tommy Tutone's "867-5309/Jenny"?
Now they use "555" numbers, which are all fake.
BTW, the DMV is an agency of the State of California, not the City of Los Angeles.
I had been born before this was made. Granted I was still in diapers, but... :D Sadly yer right tho, most of the cats watching this on YouTube probably weren't.
The movie was MUCH better than the trailer suggests. The trailer makes it look like some cornball piece of fluff. Its actually a great action movie with a stunning ending.
The funny part is, Roddy McDowall is prominently listed in the trailer, but he is not in the movie's credits! I know, I have the movie on video and have watched it about 1000 times, no kidding.
Yes, he is. He plays George Stanton, the manager of the supermarket robbed by Larry in the beginning of the movie. Deke holds his wife and daughter hostage to ensure that he gives Larry the money.
I bet that Peter Fonda & Susan George wished they had used their Safety Belts when driving those cars. They probably have plenty of aches & pains now. ouch!
Remember when movies were fun and the outlaws were the good guys? Shoot, I'd love to send Larry, Mary, and Deke out to settle Bruce Willis' hash this summer!
I do have one version of the TV spot. I don't recall it having any deleted scenes though, so maybe not the one you're looking for. I've been intending to upload it and another rare one I have for a double feature of this movie and Vanishing Point together. Hopefully I'll get a chance soon.
Go to imdb com and you see the description of the deleted scenes I was talking about. Theres a deleted flea market scene, and dialogue after they collide with the truck in the orchards. Thanks!
i love this film, it's so classic of the decade.peter fonda is great in this and love the way he handles the driving scenes.susan george is the one who seems crazy in the film and adam roarke who i am a big fan of was my favorite in the film.vic morrow was excellent as usual as the sheriff. it's a fun movie with a shocking ending which blew me away when i first saw it !

an unfortunate feature of some of the films of the seventies is that they'd try to write songs like this for them. Some of them were painful.

But I assume he IS actually in the movie? Back in the '70s, it seemed just about every movie had either Roddy McDowall or Michael Caine in it.

Yes, he is. He plays George Stanton, the manager of the supermarket robbed by Larry in the beginning of the movie. Deke holds his wife and daughter hostage to ensure that he gives Larry the money.

Yep let's not forget "The Swarm" with Michael Caine and Richard Widmark and countless other cameos by Fred MacMurray and whoever else.
He comes a long way from "The Swarm" to Bruce Wayne's butler :)

Do you have the TV version, with the deleted scenes?
Globemasterload 4 years ago
I do have one version of the TV spot. I don't recall it having any deleted scenes though, so maybe not the one you're looking for. I've been intending to upload it and another rare one I have for a double feature of this movie and Vanishing Point together. Hopefully I'll get a chance soon.

Go to imdb com and you see the description of the deleted scenes I was talking about. Theres a deleted flea market scene, and dialogue after they collide with the truck in the orchards. Thanks!
