In some African communities it's tradition to name all children after their father's first name so if his name was Wilson his sons would be named things like Wilard, Wilson JR., Warren, etc., and any daughters would also get W names like Wanda, Whitney, Wanetta etc. I think people also want to name their kids more unique names. The last child "Mianca" or whatever probably had a different father with a D name. It's not so strange I know lots of people from the Caribbean with names like that.
