  • Do fish respond to sound also? Is it possible that the sound of the lid opening, as opposed to the vibration in the water, is the stimulus they associate with food? What exactly is the difference between operant and classical conditioning? Could you help me with that please? I'm not overly sure. I'm doing an experiment for grade 12 biological sciences.

  • Operant conditioning is distinguished from classical conditioning in that operant conditioning deals with the modification of "voluntary behavior" .

Operant behavior "operates" on the environment and is maintained by its consequences, while classical conditioning deals with the conditioning of respondent behaviors which are elicited by antecedent conditions.

  • @ScotsFlanker It could also be the fish see it. If I raise my hand to the top of the tank and don't open it my fish quickly go to the surface. My fish are VERY aware of my movements. My oscar follows my point to find the pellet in the water. He only gets one at a time since I am training him to swim through hoops and tunnels.
