Holy crap! If you play, you know how amazing this is. The differences in embouchure adjustment , this is about as extreme a challenge for a brass player I've seen, except for possibly using a tuba instead of a trombone. Pedal tones on 'bone w/multiphonics and the highest register on trumpet. I repeat, holy crap!
I have met James numerous times at the annual Generations in Jazz Festival in Mount Gambier, South Australia and I have found that he is not only one of the best musicans in the world but he is also a very generous and helpful person.

He's been doing this exact routine for decades. Boring! If I was in the rhythm section, I'd persuade the others to play up a semitone. That would soon put a stop to all that meaningless trigger tom-foolery!!!
he isnt that amasing, he just does a heap of showy stuff that makes him sound alot better than he actually is listen to freddie hubbard if you want a good trumpet player
Right, good plan: everyone should just find ONE player to listen to and forget everyone else. What STELLAR advice! You are a GENIUS! Morrison must have nothing to offer . . .
Freddie Hubbard has had some not-so-great moments in his career. Listen to some other recordings of James and you'll see that he is a very good trumpet player, although not to everyone's liking. You don't get to play with Wynton, Jon Faddis and Arturo if you're crap.
@antiemo938726 That's a pretty idiotic statement. He really is that good, but being a bit of a showman, he does some of this sort of thing. The man can blow with the rest of them -- and that includes Freddie Hubbard.
Amazing, the multiphonics forms different chords and manipulates them back to chord I, is super. Then finishes it off with screaming trumpet. Best part is on his informal concerts he tells stories and everything. Top bloke
Amazing, as always!!! ;-) Hey sacsplr, where do you have those vids from? Could you possibly upload the more/the whole thing, please? Thx! James Morrison rocks!!!
Seriously, I would like to know if there is ANYONE else on this planet that can actually do this (self-duets on trumpet and trombone) to a similar standard of excellence as James Morrison! Please inform me if there is.
jazzguyman - I've seen James Morrison a few times live, and once I seen him play the piano on his left hand and the trumpet on his right hand, simultaneously...serious! This guy is a legend. Few better musicians ever.
i wouldn't say that i can play a self duet cause i need to do a bit of warming up but i am lead trumpet and principle trombone at the college im at. james morrison is the man!!
Played all over the World and can assure you all his guy is a phenomenon! -Simply Awesome

He plays sax and flute just as well as trumpet/trombone and probably piano, too. It's a little unfair =P

Diese Konzert war in Nürnberg/Fürth (Germany).
Und ich war damals LIVE dabei. Nur Gigantisch.
Die Bigband im Hintergrund ist übrigens die von Thilo Wolf.
Aufzeichnung Bayerischer Rundfunk SWING IT.
Läuft des öfteren im Nachtprogramm an Feiertagen,
oder zu kaufen beim BR-Shop.
