I don't have a lot of insight into men's lifestyles, but the point is the same.
Did the study compare within the same jobs or just in general? If it's just in general, my guess is the "very skinny"-bracket skyrockets a lot thanks to most of them working as models etc. I don't think the majority of the "very skinny"-bracket are working minimum wage...

The study is talking about overall fat men and overall thin women gains, but considering their weight the only factor is stupidity imo, because overall there are differences between fat men's and thin women's lifestyle, and it is the different lifestyle that makes their body *and* personality different. Depends on the job. A Fat women couldn't do my job as well as I can. An in shape women definatly could so If you can do the job better and faster shouldn't they get paid more? I see the person for who they are, not how they look. Cenk and Ana are inferring way too much from this study, and jumping to conclusions that are not warranted. They are actually inversing cause and effect. It is not that being fat, as a woman, causes you to get selected for lower paying jobs and passed up for raises. What is happening is that women, who come from more affluent environments, have the discretionary income to have healthier diets and are better educated about health, and as a result are thinner than women with lesser means.
All this study does is confirm a bias that we all know about. Society is far more harsh on heavy women than heavy men. A little extra weight on a man is considered "manly", even in this age of ubiquitous metrosexual fashion. Conversely, a little extra weight on a woman is seen as detracting from her femininity, and the greatest pressure to stay thin, ironically, doesn't come from many men, but from a lot of female peers.
Cenk and crew need an education in understanding scientific studies. A study shows whether there is and the strength of a CORRELATION. You can't infer CAUSATION (a much stronger claim) from a singular study.

now that I think about it, I used to weight 260 and dropped to 205 and I got a raise for some reason I don't understand, with out asking, no kidding, maybe I started working harder with out noticing,, too bad I went up to 230 tho.

Thin women are considered sexy, so yes, they are more likely to get good jobs, and guys who are fat are fat because they have the money to buy extra food. Besides, sexy guys don't get rewarded for looks as well as women. This does not surprise me in the least.

And PFT's aren't the only thing that influences promotions.
PFT's, CFT's, Marksmanship scores and overall leadership skills determine who gets promoted and there are different standards depending on the Marine's MOS. The promotion system for Infantry Marines, for example, is crap. It takes a lot longer for an Infantry Marine to get promoted than, let's say, someone working as an Admin.

@TheCrazySweed I did everything else great, but I was off by 3 freakin' points to pick up Cpl in Iraq, if I would ofhave just done 2 more pullups, I would of have gotten promoted in November of '07 because the cutting score went SUPER LOW for 1 month. I would of had a 284, I only 174, I am a fast one though, I usually ran at the time, about 17:30 to 18:30 3 mile run times. That's what I meant by you can get promoted by having a betterPFTin he Marine CORPS, happy,lol.OHRAH Tufflehounden.Peace out

this just might be a matter of class warfare rather than weight problem, It is possible that the weight depends on the salary, not the other way around.for example once a fat woman gets a little higher salary, s she buys healthier food, and gets a gym membership, and gets skinny.

I love you guys, but you keep falling for this, over and over again. All these studies that you keep quoting that confuse correlation with causation...
"A percentage of fat guys and skinny girls get paid more, ergo, people pay them more because they're fat/skinny." No they don't! Or if they do, the statistics alone are just not enough to prove the cause-effect connection!
"It sorta stands to reason" is not a valid scientific viewpoint, so please, please, PLEASE stop presenting it as one.

Depends on the job. A Fat women couldn't do my job as well as I can. An in shape women definatly could so If you can do the job better and faster shouldn't they get paid more? Thats obviously just one instance. I'm not counting out hot girls getting hired and pampered by their bosses. I know it happens and its not right.

the problem is that bigger women have issues with their looks and without knowing it they take it out on the people around them when they are in a higher position in the work place more so than a skinnier women. everywhere i have worked, i have gotten ridiculed by bigger women for my looks and the majority were in higher positions. this is the truth even though i dont consider myself to be all that pretty or even skinny though everyone seems to comment on that fact. :(

@jlair I agree. Because fat women are ridiculed everywhere, they seem to take it out on skinnier girls. I've seen it. I've done it. I've changed though. I see the person for who they are, not how they look. Unfortunately, I'm still judged for my weight and can't find a job suitable for me, or if I'm working, I become the scapegoat for other people's mistakes. If I defend myself, they see me as over-defensive and acting out, and it's a black mark on my file.

Cenk and Ana are inferring way too much from this study, and jumping to conclusions that are not warranted. They are actually inversing cause and effect. It is not that being fat, as a woman, causes you to get selected for lower paying jobs and passed up for raises. What is happening is that women, who come from more affluent environments, have the discretionary income to have healthier diets and are better educated about health, and as a result are thinner than women with lesser means.

All this study does is confirm a bias that we all know about. Society is far more harsh on heavy women than heavy men. A little extra weight on a man is considered "manly", even in this age of ubiquitous metrosexual fashion. Conversely, a little extra weight on a woman is seen as detracting from her femininity, and the greatest pressure to stay thin, ironically, doesn't come from many men, but from a lot of female peers.

Cenk and crew need an education in understanding scientific studies. A study shows whether there is and the strength of a CORRELATION. You can't infer CAUSATION (a much stronger claim) from a singular study.

I think you guys took kind of a BS stance on this. Really what I see in my corporate job is these body type are a result of overworking. Guys will eat bad food, work irregular hours, and this results in obesity. Females in general will skip meals, work irregular hours and push themselves and they end up losing weight. I'm just saying this is the result of driven people, not the cause of why they get paid more.
