RETARDS!! This is why the Romans used seats and horizontal restraints: so that the nailed-up person wouldn't fall off. Once they figured that out, it didn't take them long to design those items for additional torture and sexual assault / humiliation of the condemned.
By RETARDS I mean the only the people who designed the cross, selected the nails and ribbons, and nailed Mr. Horsley up. Plus everybody else involved in this - excluding Sebastian of course. May he rest in peace.
@Man777Alive Actually according to Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian and Origen, He had a seat of utter humiliation to sit on, or rather, "ride." The non-Christian writers especially Seneca back this up. It's also verified by two items of epigraphic evidence called the Puzzuoli Graffito from 100 CE and the Vivat Crux Graffito in Pompeii from 79 CE.
@EdM021 Personally I don't see any reason for a plinth because it would aid the person being crucified. The weight of his body being supported by said plinth. Not much of a torture is it just having nails put through your hands whilst standing on a little block of wood? The argument that there was no plinth comes about because when exhausted after hours of hanging there trying to take your own weight off the nails through your feet, you would eventually suffocate to death through exhaustion.
@EdM021 The "seat of utter humiliation" refers to the Cross itself I believe, why do youthink it refers to a lttle block of wood for the purpose of standing on?
@Man777Alive (1/2) You don't get it, do you? People survived for DAYS on the cross and probaly died from iron blood poisoning. The Nazis did crucifixion experiments with ropes and and found out if one could lift himself up without a plinth, he would exhaust himself within an hour and then die from suffocation within minutes, once he couldn't lift up with his legs. But what the Romans used for a "seat" was not a plinth to stand on nor a plank to sit astride but a STAKE to penetrat onesself with.
@Man777Alive (2/2) And naturally the four gospels hide this fact. Even though the first 2, Matthew (27:40 and 42) and Mark (15:30 and 32) in the original Greek has Jesus' fellow Jews use verbiage "(various conjugations of) katabainw apo tou starou" that could be and was interpreted as "dismount from the cross" or "quit riding the cross." The fact of the matter is, the Romans NEVER CRUCIFIED either by to the common definition OR Christian iconography (Cath., Ortho. or Prot.). Please get educated.
@EdM021 Oh yes "naturally" they hide this fact. Bit loaded wasn't it? I am educated sir, I have a B.A. (Hons) in Religious Studies and an unrelated M.A. You sir are very arrogant indeed. The original point I was making about the plinth was that Horsley was not crucified in the proper manner, and by your expert analysis of this, you have proved as I thought, it was nothing but an attention grabbing stunt.
@Man777Alive They haide the fact because the Christians did not want to acknowledge it. Have you ever read Miucius Felix Octavian chapter 29? When the Christian is accused of worshiping a criminal and his cross he deflects the question by denying everything and then accusing the Greeks and Romans of worshipping crosses them selves! A simple google of "crucis simplicis" and an image google of "tropaeum" would reveal that trophy frame back then and a crux immissa today are one in the same.
@EdM021 Just because somebody doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they "don't get it." Have you any references for the information regarding Nazi crucifixion?
@EdM021 oh Ed, my patronising dear, I think it unlikely that there would have been a definitive way in which Romans crucified people across the whole of the Roman Empire, however the claims you make, eg."NEVER CRUCIFIED" suggest you know differently. Of course you would have had to have been present at all of these crucifixion to know this, where you Ed? Each crucifixion would most likely have been carried out to the own individual liking/tastes of the soldiers, that is sadly the human way.
@Man777Alive (1/2) One look at the actual Vivat Crux Graffito and the actual Puzzuoli Graffito will show that Seneca Younger in De Consolatione 20:3 could very well have been speaking about three of the manifold tortures of crucifixion on crosses of the type shown in the two graffiti: (1) Head tipped back towards the earth (2) impalement through the most private part and (3) arms stretched out on the crossarm. The Puzzuoli Graffito indicates that execution crosses resembled utility poles.
@Man777Alive Besides, they had the tropaeum, Tertullian called it or something else a "votive cross" (Apoligeticus 9.2) And Francesco Carotta, an esteemed Italian linguist, figured out that Julius Caesar's funeral included his wax image fixed to a tropaeum cross. There are sarcophagi showing the pagan god Dionysius crucified on a votive cross. There are carvings showing people exalting trpoaea and pagan dieties just like in The Passion of the Christ. Romans would not treat criminals like this!

And so now you're dead!!! What's the point? Maybe you lived like Lou Reed (My week beats your year) but I'm still living and you're not. I may even live long enough to see people land on Mars. You won't, loser!!. I prefer Better Davis (It takes guts to get old) I want as many days of this miracle called life as possible.
@panther105: who are you actually trying to insult, calling a dead man names? Life has no measurable value, especially not one proportional to its lenght. Feel free to enjoy your miracle. You'll probably find yourself enjoying it a lot more by being a little more constructive than now.
@panther105 For what reason? You are already dead. Sebastian will live forever. He will be remembered and you won't. What is more real than to be crucified than to share the sufferings of Christ? Mother Theresa gave up a priviledged life and went to live among the poor in Calcutta. Joseph Kennedy, who was almost certainly destined to be President of the US instead gave his life in WW2. What will you have done good or bad? Nothing. You will dry up like an old leaf and crumble away.
@pjvenner "...That doesn't chance the facts" What facts? You just speculated what he might be thinking, those aren't facts. He was actually nailed, with straps to support him. He couldn't have had all his weight on the nails in his hands, that would cause permanent damage.
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Psalms 2:1-5
Thank the Lord that my parents feared the Lord and taught me.

@makoshark26 Do you honestly truely believe that the world would be a better place without religion? Perhaps religion does start wars, infact yes it does. But so does many other things, such as embracing ones life. Seizing the day and the billion other maxims that the ignorant use to attack religion, and religion also motivates people to go out and try and close the rifts and heal the wounds caused by those men that fought wars for their religion, for greed, for their own psychoses. I pity you
@makoshark26, most wars, even those that invoke religion, are not started by religion. Many times religion is invoked to justify ones actions -- actions that have nothing to do with God. Most wars are started from a desire to move into new territory. This desire is, in turn, fueled by many motives, including a desire for a larger economy, a desire for strategic military expansion, a desire for greater security, and other reasons not even remotely religious in nature.

no the foot rest wasn't nailed properly, he needs that to stay on otherwise it doesn't work. you cannot support a human with nails through the hands and feet it's not possible which is why the crucifiction story in the bible is that, fiction. aside from that crosses weren't used, pillars were. thats what stavros means as is written in the bible in the original greek which was the basis for modern translations.

Anyone tried reading his book to find out why he did this and what he was thinking?
He was clean from drugs and low in self esteem as an artist and felt it was something he would do.
He was nailed through the hands and was standing his weight on a plinth.
The plinth strangely gave way!
He felt that even God had rejected his actions at this time.

Very misleading title... it looks like he was strapped to the cross rather than nailed.
IMHO, Desperate attention seeker - 3:41 he thinks "I'm getting attention" and smiles...
3:47 he's like "oh crap, I'm being filmed... look like I'm close to death".
I know he's dead now but that doesn't change the facts. Maybe the suicide was an attention seeking stunt that went wrong.
RIP Seb... I'm not speaking ill of the dead, just saying it as I see it which as an artist I am sure you will understand.
