her greatest value isn't style, but techniques. videos cannot show her real skills, if you go to her workshop i'm sure u'll be totally shocked. i've seen ansuya and sonia live performances and neither is at her level (i'm also a fan of ansuya; her dance is really attractive and i almost shouted when she danced; but when i saw suihaila i almost lost the ability to shout but simply burst into tears)
I feel the same way about other dancers like with Mesmera. If you believe in yourself and grow up around financial means than you can be anything. You can become a belly dancer. You can be out of shape, look weird with less than technique or in Suhalia's case be anti technique and be a ground breaker. Believe in yourself when you dance since look at the revolutionaries and see their faults. She's human after all. There's the whole other side with the robots like the sub human Jilliana.
It's funny you paired Suhaila with the word "anti-technique". She is more technique oriented than the majority of dancers, and many dancers who are popular today use her technique. Whether you like her or not, you have to admit she is a true genius and ground breaker.

As this is the first time I have ever heard from someone from the USA who will comment without bias on a US dancer, that proves you have real conviction & that you that actually appreciates & understand Traditional Belly dance, & know what it actually is. BRAVA. It goes without saying " I am in Agreement with you."
I think it is always good to be creative. I dont know her style very well. But sometimes the artist has to come up with something new otherwise it is boring to keep watching the samething over and over. I respect her for that

Bellydancin is not a ranking like the best football player in the world cause it is something artistic, subjective and cant be evaluated with a measure, although u can see a lot of contests where the jury evaluates technique and expresion but at least it is something artistic and everyone has its own style. She has a beautiful style but not all the people will say the same about her, To me shes great.

For me Suhaila has understood the pure essence of dance as a body expression of feelings and emotions. She has a unique technique of fusion bellydance in which she fuses combinations of movements together. This is what makes HER style, and I think she is amazing in what she does! I would love to learn her style if I could...
Her dance seems to be to more of a self-expression. I have to respect her for the element of HER that she presents when she dances. And yes, maybe she is a overated, but... like the other person said, she is a performance artist more than anything else. I see her style as very imprecise which is fine, as it's more passionate that way, but yes, probably hard to teach. Passion is something you either have or don't. It can't be taught.
you describe her well! feel the same.. passion is something "insecure" sometimes it turns out great, sometimes weird.. and it s irreconcilable with technical perfection.. i dont know what to think of her style, sometimes like it, but always find it strange to be honest.
different..... i have seen some that are definately more exciting and can move better.. but she is a performance artist and seems to draw great crowds....it seems shes one of the great instructors also. i have yet to see her live.... excited to do so .
What an incredibly brave, innovative dancer. She never lets me down.

as a ballet dancer,as a Polynesian dancer, as a modern dancer, and as a belly dancer i dont think i have to study with her to appreciate her
I know what it takes and at least she can make it look good
she looks spastic her movement is odd

I find it a little strange too. I know she's supposed to be a legend and all, but I think I prefer the more traditional/Raqia Hassan style.
