i am a bangladeshi muslim. i believe partition was right. it probably prevented genocide + civil war. however, though i do not want bangladesh to reunite with india, i would like bangladesh to reunite with pakistan (or atleast a union with pakistan like the EU). i am quite sure that almost all bangladeshis would like to reunite with our pakistani brothers. i believe that we are the same people and that reunification would help both bangladeshis and pakistanis

Anthropologically, culturally,linguistically Bangladeshis are closer to India. Given that there are 140 million bengalis in Bangladesh and 90 million Bengalis in India. you though have ignored all of this, and has simply found a common bond in religion. This is the only commonality between Pakistan, Bangladesh. Historically as well Bangladesh has a common history with India. Clearly u are a religious person. Am i right ?

The problem is, India gives special rights to minorities religions, muslims and Christians. If it wishes to be a pluralistic state it must put all religions on the same level. That means, no more temple taxing, everyone under the same legal system, and no reservations based on religion. Everyone competes equally. That's a pluralistic state. At its current practice, it isn't pluralistic, it is a partial-islamic-christian state.

Mr. Vijay brings up the idea of America in comparison to India. Abraham Lincoln knew one thing, you can not have two different legal systems in the same country. It would destroy the country. America, at the time, had some slave states and some free states. And Abraham Lincoln new it was so important to keep the states united under one legal system, he was willing to go to civil war and even have the largest number of US shoulders die in any war to make that happen. India must do the same.

Pakistan was never part of India before British came and neither was Kashmir. India was divided into many kingdoms before British came and brought all land under their rule and created the India we know now.

The first settlers in the Indian sub continent settled at the Indus River- Its this river that gives India its name. Also during the Murya Dynasty, Gupta Dynasty and Kushan Empire Pakistan was united with India (i.e Parts of India )

Some more hypotheticals-

3. The wounds of partition, massacres and cycles of hatred in future generations would have been avoided - it shocked me when Mark laughed it off simply as "British mistakes"..

4. I do feel that even if there was no partition, consolidation of princely states into un-divvied India would hv been managed by Congress and Muslim League.

Despite above, I believe that India is doing well right now, except for simmering internal tensions (naxalism), but onus for peace is on Pak

Very very interesting 5 part video. Some hypothetical questions to mull:

1. As a part of united India, even as a loose federation, would Pakistan have still been under military control and solely defined itself on the basis of a purer Islam and a non-Indian or non-hindu identity?

2. Would it have been as easy for middle-east funding to fan extremism and the flames of Wahabism in the North West of whole-India ? Would the Berelvi/Sufi strand of Islam still remain preeminent in whole-India?

Lastly, would there have been 911 or the bogey of Islamic terrorism in the world at this moment ? OR would it have been sooner due to simmering Islamic regions in a badly balkanised India ? OR would extremism and a 911 kind of calamity just been postponed, if there was no balkanisation, but tensions and islamization inside India.

Many theories - but if a lumbering multi-cultural entity like India can progress with so many issues - it would have progressed with one more issue, gradually/speedily.
