Not to point out something you already know, but I suspect the rationale behind the banning was burning the peace symbol of a poppy was a non verbal way of saying "It's time for muslims to give up peace and start using terrorism and violence." In the US, similar laws would apply. If you go around in public forum telling people to kill and torture and terrorize, you go to jail. Certainly the intent behind the poppy burning was to deliver the same message.

I agree with most of what you said in your video, I can however see a problem compareing the burning of a flag while living in the country that the flag represent, with the burning of the quran or othere religious scripture and so on. One is saying fuck you to an ideolegy the other a country. If you christian but you no longer believe and want to leave your religion feel free to burn the bible and leave, if you burn the flag of your country have the decency to do the same.

M.A.C might deserve the ban,,the government might have genuine reason behind it (and if they did, would they say so? not likely as it is not smart to say "oi, you there, we know you are making a bomb"), chances are no major reason but i dont get how they could do it last year but not this year, i dont get what has changed since.

The actions of the government in this case are to try and prevent trouble from brewing. If you were to do your "swivel" speech to a Muslim extremist in the manner you describe, it wouldl result in violence on the streets. It would make the EDL stronger. Freedom of expression or freedom of speech is the whine of a foolish child mind if it does demand that with that freedom comes the duty of responsibility. Nobody has the right to incite violence, especially against the culture that has tolerantly allowed them to become a part. @MrGreatEngland So it's not as easy as saying "EDL doesn't promote hate speech" etc; just because the politicians at the top of EDL are smart enough to avoid those words publicly, that does not excuse the EDL as an organization from the actions of the rest of their members. And I'm sure even you will agree that there is no shortage of EDL members having taken part in violent acts. Or are you seriously going to claim that EDL-supporters are no more violent than, say, that of the Liberals?

That, of course, is like saying "Give me one example of Islam promoting [insert argument here]". You might not find that (I haven't looked), but you'll find PLENTY of EDL-SUPPORTERS or MEMBERS instigating violence and even part-taking in violent acts! EDL politicians might not instigate it, but theirs supporters do (cont.)

I don't like either group, but I'd defend their right to speak no matter what, as long as they are not directly encouraging violence. And I have to agree with Richard on one point: If this group is being targeted by terrorist laws, then so should the EDL. In my view - neither group should be. But if one is, then the other one should as well.

I marched in a remembrance parade on sunday. And I support the rights of the muslims to burn a poppy, though it saddens me deeply that they'd disrespect all the fallen, including the many muslims of the commonwealth forces.
Still, it's their rights that the fallen, symbolised by the poppy, fought and died for, or so we tell ourselves.

It isn't often we agree on things but this seems to be one such occasion.
I've mulled the idea of banning groups like this (who espouse 'terrorist' philosophy but don't commit out-right 'terrorist acts') over in my mind and I've come to the conclusion that banning them is a slippery slope. 'Terrorists' today, 'right-wingers' tomorrow, any opposition to mainstream the next. "Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself" and all that.

The problem is with our whole system Richard, we don't have a first amendment like those yankee fucks do lol.In effect the Government can ban groups if they are seen as too offensive.I find it personally offensive for someone to tell me what speech I can and can not listen too, I am not a child.
Off the top of my head I think several member's of Anjem Choudary cult have been convicted of terrorism, but I will have to look it up again to be sure 100% (and to be I can't be fucked lol).
