  • This is a sublime production with Mehta and they repeated it in 1984 but the magic was a little less. The Gala section with Isaac Stern playing the solo from the allegro section of Mendelssohn's Violin concerto is stunning; not to mention Te Kanawa's liquid gold soprano with well timed comic reprieves. The whole ensemble cast was sensational!

  • Herman Prey...totally copped a feel on kiri te kanawa. Amazing scene but that part was hilariously awkward.
