@rosserver The rotor is a magnet of 1.5cm x 6mm diametrically magnetized, it is ready when it is produced, it has a pole of a semicircle and the other pole of the other semicircle and is different from other magnets with north and south on faces.

I took two countersunk washers for wood screws from hardware store with the same diameter and I have tried to attack them on the faces and they are tight, half contact with the north and half with the south. Then two nails to do the axis! :)

@windreng Il rotore è un magnete di 1,5cm x 6mm magnetizato diametralmente, è già pronto così quando viene prodotto, ha un polo su una semicirconferenza e l'altro polo su l'altra semicirconferenza ed è differente dagli altri magneti con il nord e il sud sulle facce.

Ho preso due rondelle da ferramenta svasate per le viti da legno di uguale diametro ed ho provato ad attaccarle sulle facce e si sono serrate bene, contattano metà con il nord e metà con il sud. E poi due chiodi per l'asse!

Hi! I use one neodymium magnet magnetized diametrically! It starts automatically because the coils are in series and one is slightly out of phase (for a lot of luck).

i am an igcse student and what i understan from this is that whe the current runs through the coil an elctromagnetic field is formed. i think in the middle is a magnet which has its own magnetic field which is reppeld by the electromagnetic feild from the coils. am i right? and if im not can some pls help me asap with telling me what the concept of a simple ac motor is

What you say about the repulsion of the magnet due to coils magnetic field is true. Is possible that I can make you understand something in addition, making you an example: the two coils are electro magnets that alternate their direction of magnetization continuously (with AC), then the magnet on the rotor is always in a state of discomfort, and then it is rejected for each pulse (Hz). The inertia in fact (as in the Tops) is the only physical law that ensures that magnet turn!

i think if its more energy too you can use a iron core, it has a slow magnetic field loss so it would be partially magnetized to make the coils able to push it into rotation! i have a fan that looks just like this and has a iron core with two coils like this and a iron covering for containing the magnetic field,but i never thought of how it would look at its basics. again great work!

I think I made a calculation error! Then it should run at 3000 rpm, because the frequency in Italy is 50 Hz, and so in one second it performed 50 laps. Now: 50 * 60 second per minute are 3000 rpm.

It looks like you have made the basic AC induction motor that Tesla invented.

If you want to have a little fun, carefully align a second set of coils at right angles to the existing ones. If you get them adjusted just right, there will be no AC voltage on them with the rotor stopped but a significant one on them with the rotor turning.

If you have an oscilloscope you can look and see that the coils at 90 degrees have AC that is phase shifted by 90 degrees.
