  • very good. some parts sound like you're actually chinese. some parts sound off like a foreigner, but still understandable.

overall, it's truly great pronunciation! you're better than most of the chinese-american (since i'm an ABC) kids i know!

i only wish i could pronounce french that well and learn it as quickly as you!

  • i like this video best.

  • haha, you're so cute.

  • but besides that, your really good!!!!

  • aw....you should really try traditional chinese, cuz the words that were written by generations were always thought of as a work of art from our ancestors.

  • OMG..how old are..jeez im totally jealous..im learning or atleast trying to teach my self chinese for about 2 months so far and ur way better then omg what is ur method eh? im only like 13..wow ur very good ive been listening to ur chinese it sound so good..u sound just like a native ..i do to i just dont know as much as u do..omg..ur awsome..umm get doing ur best and reply back when u get a chance..thanks!!!

  • wow your are so amazing !

and the dialogue was absolutely perfect

you sounded like an native chinese person :)

im mandarin & I can even sing 青花瓷 as good as you even looking at the lyrics LOL

  • you're good!!!! keep it up :] to be honest i didnt think you'd be good at all ...like most beginner foreigners tend to be in Chinese, but you proved me wrong.

  • I'm not sure about in China, but in Singapore, we usually say 您的电话号码是什么? or 您的电话号码是几号? instead of 您的电话号码是多少. ^^

Btw, your mandarin is great! Usually when non-chinese speak mandarin, they will have the English accent to it. But you sounded rather natural! =) And hey! You listen to Jay Chou's songs! Lol. Even I don't really listen to his songs. But he sings very well. Multi-talented.

  • You're better than me! :O

  • perfect!!!

  • Hey, just think theat you're a natural talent with languages!

I can speak ok French, and I'm Chinese, so i think your Chinese (not to mention Japanese) is totally amazing.

Just need to point out that you don't have to be obsessive with the tones - but do try to understand that if you say something in a different tone, it could mean a whole different thing!

  • lol, ok thanx. I do admit that it's a bit of an obsession.

    thanx for the feedback ;)

  • You're welcome. :)

Also, one more thing. While it's not wrong to say, "nin de dian hua hao ma shi duo shao?", however that literally translates to, "How much is your phone number?". "Duo shao" is more or less used for measurements of cost.

Instead, you could say, "Qing wen nin de dian hua hao ma shi shen me?" - "What is your phone number?"

  • Just like you said that when it is literally translated it would mean " how much is your phone number?". However, many of us know that by directly translate words from one language to another often you would not get the right meaning.

I think she has done a good job on this video, because it is very common for chinese to ask someone "nin de dian hua hao ma shi duo shao". There is nothing to be corrected in this video

  • I'm going to agree with the previous reply. Anything when literally translated just sounds funny. There's just huge difference between connotative and denotative definitions.

I think you can translate some of this from knowing Japanese ;). Anyway, you're really talented at languages which is awesome and I hope you pick up some Thai as well. :P One language at a time.

  • wow. ur african right? it's always nice to see foreigner speak such a fluent other language!

  • African? How is she African? She's French. If you had visited her channel you'd know that. She has a whole series dedicated to teaching French. Geez... some people. *shakes head*

  • ahh I'm sorry Leyla, my bad...still it's cool to see french speak a fluent chinese

  • Her parents are from west Africa. She mentions that in a few videos.

  • But she really is African. She's a French person of West African (Guinea/Benin) descent.

  • you are my hero i need to learn jap and spanish where youve learned jap ?

  • She's self taught. She's AMAZING!!!

  • wow that's pretty good chinese. i'm an abc. americanbornchinese(: it sounds really formal and i would probably speak like that in that situation. you're really talented! i think the home person sounds a little bit more fluent than the resturant lady.

  • really? 笑 I did both voices though!

    but that's interesting.

Actually after listening to it again, i agree with you

  • wow , i cant even sing the song and im fluent in chinese , u good

  • prefect!

  • very good xiao jei

work on the "ling", sounds kinda weird. i think there might've been other stuff but..

so anyways.. sorry for my super ultra long comment, and good luck in your future language-related "endeavors"

  • thanx a lot

  • lol cool !!it is reli reli gud,u rock!!well..吗 not 马 i think there is a litte error in the subs =P

, i am dying to put on a french accents 4 my oral tests, omg god help me i can not speak in french...help

    lol

  • oh thanx for correcting me! I just hate simplified characters!!!!

笑 I can't really speak chinese either. but I just force myself and practice a lot.

Good luck with french, Jia You!

  • looooool, the phone number is soooo long~

  • lol imagine the chinese population that should explain why loool

  • bof

  • Thats interesting.Would you by any chance have a few seconds to ,,,maybe do the conversation in French.

    Merci

  • I won't translate this conversation, but hopefully my next video will be all in french with english subtitles(possibly japanese subs too). I'm preparing it right now. thanks for your patience

  • Cool!!

I love listening to the people working in the Chinese resturant I go to speak. That is the main reason I eat there. Chinese sounds so cool.

  • i think you said "yao" for 1 and i think it should be "yi" but besides that, that was really good i think (from my basic chinese knowledge). i love your language videos :-D

  • no she has it right. You say "yao" for 1 in phone numbers so that it doesnt get confused with 7 "qi" because it rhymes with "yi"

  • oh i didn't know that. i learn something new every day

  • both are acceptable. ppl in China say 'yao1' whereas ppl in Taiwan say 'yi1' while calling 1 as a number, so the former say "yao1 yao1 jiu3" and the latter say "yi1 yi1 jiu3" instead when it comes to emergency 119. well i'm not trying to arise a debate, for such slight differences in pronunciation seem to be a phenomenon later i found in many languages, like: either (UK/US), Québécois (France/Québec), はし(大阪/東京), etc.

  • wow, thanx for the info. I never even noticed your comment. lol it says it's been here to weeks...

  • oh btw, if any of you has chance to be in an army or somewhere similar, you may find them shout out "yao1 liang3 san1 si4 wu3 liu4 guai3 ba1 gou1 dong4" rather than "yi1 er4 san1 si4 wu3 liu4 qi1 ba1 jiu3 ling2", each of which separately means 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0, when numbering themselves off. :)

  • Bon travail Leyla!

Keep up the good work. Soldier on!

  • Oh, I don't know a single word of Chinese, so I'm the last person of the world that may dare to criticize you! xD

But according to the description, I'm sure that you have improved a lot your spoken Chinese!

Instead, I can tell that you have a talent for singing and a really nice voice! :-D

    Felice Anno Nuovo, Leyla! :-)

  • bonne année et bon courage pr ton apprentissage miss:)
