When you're on these ultralong Moscow elevators, look across to the people going in the opposite direction; they seem to all be leaning, like thousands of Pisan towers. I used to get a laugh from this as I slowly proceeded up or down...

In Saint-Petersburg (it's in Russia too) escalators are much longer in the center of the city because of squishy terrain and deep Neva river. Peter I, Russian imperator, insisted on building city that place. There is stations where you need 5+ minutes to go on ground! Really deep. :)
Sorry for bad english and best regards from Moscow city! ^^
Saint Petersburg(Russia) metro more deepest then Moscow, coz its going under river, probably Saint Petersburg metro is most deepest metro in the world, but Moscow has 300 square km,crazy:)
" sorry for the inconvience but all of our escalators in the entire moscow transit system is checked for mantinence. sorry to say but , we ensure you to take the stairs or take the elevator. thank you."
it seems everywhere in Moscow there is congestion... if it's not cars on the road it's people on the escalators.... The city itself looks beautiful, but the pollution must be terrible....and why such a high presence of police everywhere...?... it seems very intimadating...
Hi and thanks for commenting! As a matter of fact you may indeed get bored riding that long escalator because it is n o t very fast. Only you wouldn't really have a choice, would you. (Even in modern Russia service is not exactly about "spoiling" customers, I think...)
Yes, that is what I really hated in Moscowian or Petersburgian underground. Not the length of escalators, but the incredible announcements during the ride on escalators. Usually it contains some points from Public transport rules, security warnings and advertisement. Really, why is it there? Normal person knows, how to behave in underground, there is no need for every ride repetition of basical rules. Golden Prague underground escalator rides - peace and quiet!
Who says there are no "abnormal persons" in the subway? There are a lot of them in St. Pete's subway, for instance. I meet them every day :))) Let these announcements teach them manners the more the better.
Are you sure? There exists something like soul of the place. When persistently listening to announcements about rules of behaving as a passenger, many times I thought for myself something like: "Why to behave normally, why to be polite, when obviously - according to the announcement - there is a lot of people here that do not behave properly and needs to be lectured at this so intensively?"
Why? Because the announcements are soft preventing measures that just warn everybody. If that announcements don't convince anybody, there are cops in the subway as well. :)))
Please!! It seems like it's never going to end! watching this I felt my stomach spinning!
Really exciting video, thx a lot for uploading this!! someday, I'll go to Moscow...up to that moment, thx for making me feel I'm there!wow I'm speechless!
r u serious im from russia and thats my nationality and seriously the actual subway is crap inside when u ride everything is fucked up people are smoking drug addicts are riding with u and hoes so except for sum statues and the murials everything is bullshit
Hi I just flew in back from Russia (I live in NZ,Russian by nationality). You're right it is the greatest subway ever. It was a great achievement of hard Stalinist labour (I still hate Stalin though). Also, I'm surprised so many people viewed this video. Moscow is one of the best cities in the world in my opinion. Feels so nice to hear those voice recordings talking in Russian for a change :)
P.S. I got a video about the Moscow Metro as well.
Too bad public transportation here in the States isn't as inexpensive and reliable as the Metro. It's easy to use and gets you almost anywhere you want to go in Moscow. Can't wait to get back to Moscow in 37 days! (I hope Electrozovodskaya station is finally open again). До скорой встречи!
2.) Dear passengers, we would like to bring it to your attention that on the territory of the moscow metro it is illegal to put up your signs or ads unless done this is done so with an official permit from the Moscow Metro. Violators will be fined and/or sued (although they said it in a really dry manner that would be hard to translate). Please remain vigilant and do not trust suspicious adds as they may contain false information.
That was only like half of it... youtube didn't let me post 4 comments at once... :P and i don't feel like doing it again. I'm surprised how long that took even though i speak russian and english fluently :S
1.) Dear passengers, please don't forget your bags on the train. If you see a suspicious bag, report it to the station's police or station authorities.
It's because the stations are so far apart I think, since the Soviets built it for the commuters, tourists getting around the central part of Moscow was not of their concern...

I like how they warned about punishing people for illegal ad postings, yet they play commercials through the same metro radio.
If you go to Moscow Metro every day it becomes really annoying.

pandaartfactory 3 years ago
Oh, of course they are not fast
There are reasons for that.
1) The escalator mechanism lasts longer
2) Some time needs for the personell to stop the escalator if somebody's fur coat got stuck... (that happens)
3) They want you to have enough time to listen to the ADVERTISEMENTS! (That's a thing that pisses me off about Moscow Metro)
