Good job on the video. Seems to me that if you want to say "Grunge", look to the Northwestern bands from the US in the late 80's early 90's...Mudhoney, Green River, Screaming Trees, Melvins, Mother Love Bone, etc. in addition to some of your selection. Look at what came out on Sub Pop records at that time. What you have here is a non-definitive collection of favourite alternative music.
ya some of those songs were out of order, and I'm not sure that all of those songs were strictly grunge.... .... but they are all excellent 90's alt-rock songs, and you covered pretty much all the main acts. just my opinions. Good video, long live the 90's, alt-rock, and grunge
I know it's just your opinion Bruno and I respect that. But come on, man. Bush and Hole? No Mudhoney or Mother Lovebone? Lol, don't mean to give you a hard time. We need more people posting music like this so I don't mean to discourage you. Just had to give my $0.02.
dude u don't even know what and who are the grunge bands and grunge musics..... bush really wow? give me a break, you stupid u should just listen to some kinda alternative music stay away from grunge i am talking about the real grunge... PEARL JAM SOUNDGARDEN ALICE IN CHAINS MUDHONEY TEMPLE OF THE DOG SCREAMING TREES AND ALL SEATLLE BANDS.... GO JUST LISTEN TO BUSH AND HOLE DUMB ASS..............
Is this one person's opinion or actual, voter proven results? (and by voter proven results, I mean ACTUAL voter proven results...not like Bu$h-type voter proven results. LOL) There seems to be a lot of Alice in Chains here. I LOVE A.I.C. but this list seems to be a bit biased towards them.
Smashing Pumpkins is not grunge....Bush and Stone Temple Pilots are hardly considerable as well.....This list overlooks a ton of real grunge that is amazing....Dislike
The prob is...there is way too many songs to say are the best in the alternative/grunge era of the 90's...........I mean where is Blind Melon???! Hole- Doll Parts...Nirvana- Come as you Are...Pearl Jam -Black.....Cranberries-Zombie.....Foo Fighters- Everlong.....and soooo may more!!
Where the fuck is Candlebox, Melvins, Blood Circus, MAD SEASON, Mother Love Bone, Silverchair, Mudhoney, The Monkeywrench, Screaming Trees, PEARL JAM little idiot, PEARL JAM and many many others??? THIS RANKING SUCKS FUCKING NOOB!!
Last I new bush came from the UK STP is a L.A. band the Pumkins weren't called grunge either and WTF why would you put any fucking hole song on the list shes like the Yoko Ono of seatle
man, you make me the happiest guy in the word, i've been looking for the smashing song today for years and now with your video i found it, thank you very fucking much
this list fuckin sucks. you left out a lot of true grunge bands like Green River, Mother Love Bone, the Melvins, or mudhoney. now unless you're saying most commercially, which is stupid, then this list is a complete fallacy.
@sirpsychosexy19891 because those bands are 90's alternative not grunge just like the smashing pumpkins. I think that people get confused because alternative rock and grunge started in the same generation and the two styles heavily influenced each other. I'd say the smashing pumpkins is the best example I could give If you can follow what I'm trying to say?
people seemed to forget that nirvana was not the biggest grunge band. they benefited from cobain's suicide massively. Most if not all of the other bands on this list were bigger than nirvana by the time conbain killed himself; Pearl Jam was a lot bigger than Nirvana. In Utero (i love that album!) was a flop, across the board, people hated it; and this was after their bigger flop "insecticide" I remember people calling Unplugged "a comeback album"! .history has a funny way of getting obfuscated
where is the grunge today? in the garbage hahaha, this shit did not last even ten years, believed that they would end up with heavy metal METAL IS FOREVER .............. WE HAVE OVER 40 YEARS AND STRONGER THAN EVER
I can't believe there's The Smashing Pumpkins in a grunge chart.. I love them but they're not grunge, man! Also, 'Would?' by AIC has to be almost in the top 3, and where are Pearl Jam, Temple Of The Dog and Mad Season? And how about 'Fell on black days' by Soundgarden?
The Smashing Pumpkins are Alternative Rock. Bush are Post-Grunge.
As always Nirvana make number one, they AREN'T THE BEST.
Glad to see 'Down in a Hole' made it to Number 9, also glad to see a lot of Alice in Chains on here, would have liked to have seen 'Sea of Sorrow' though!
@kikorabelo no Mudhoney, Love Battery or Madseason. Bush is post grunge, cashing in on the sound. Smashing Pumpkins are not grunge, this list is bogus. #1 song was released as a cash grab. like come on.
@kikorabelo Yes! Mother Love Bone! & Speaking of Candlebox not being on the list- that could be cause they never called themselves grunge spinning off the tails of the Seattle scene, they are just a Rock n Roll Band....but Far Behind WAS written for Andy Wood of Mother Love bone!!
If you want a platform for finding new good grunge bands and posting ones you know of, check out the facebook page "Spread the word of good newer grunge bands". As of now 214 bands have been posted!
People are gonna hate me but.......im glad smells like teen spirit isnt 1 because if you go up to a kid with a Nirvana shirt whos my age (sadly) theyll say "Oh yeah i love smells like teen spirit and heart shaped box!" then thats it nothing else! but it did change the world GREATLY but still you know what i mean :p
No grunge is dead. And now we have "post-grunge" which is generic and boring radio rock, and it is almost impossible to distinguish between bands or songs. oh and let's not forget EVERY post grunge singer tries to copy Kurt Cobain in both lyrical content and vocal style. FUCK THAT.
You can't make a "Top" list if you keep repeating the same bands. Listen to some more Grunge bands, or shorten the list. Honestly, you kept repeating Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Alice In Chains.
Ive never regarded Bush as a grunge band...they missed the boat by at least 5 years!
Also in relative terms, almost unkown here in the UK...which is quite strange, seeing that they are from here lol. Mind, that said Def Leppard were always overlooked in their own homeland aswell.
@MrEvilronald Yeah, but there first album was released in 1994, when the grunge era was still going on. Only thing they did even considered grunge though.
@Justeatmytoast I know, but Grunge just doesn't come from Seattle, STP, Hole, L7 all came from LA. Really it's up to the person to decide what's grunge or not. I see people say Nirvana isn't even grunge. Yes, some great grunge songs aren't distorted. Polly, Something In the Way, Creep, Black, Nutshell. STP had their first two albums grunge, went back to that the 4th. Bush's first album was, and Pearl Jam's first three were.
@MrEvilronaldi always found that odd(the brits not liking bush) they were a great band! i guess it had more to do with the aesthetic of the brits during that era, you guys were into that britpop thing (which never caught on over here {U.S.}),I like a few britpop songs but i always viewed it as a highly patriotic music; it was like you people were listening to "God save the queen" or something; it had a real "this is ours"-vibe.I've always said "oasis is the biggest band in the world, in england"
@sempercompellis True, though the 'Britpop' bracket was just a term coined and invented by the media, the rest of us just called it rock lol. Tbh i was never a massive fan of the whole Britpop/Oasis etc scene, i was more a bigger fan of the earlier indie scene around 89' here, bands like the stone roses, inspiral carpets, the charlatans etc.
I wouldn't say it was patriotic music as such, or indie wasn't anyway. Though i could see why that could be the impression given.
really accurate i like how evryone hates courteney love guys her music rocks u have to admit its awesome and if u like nirvana then not liking courteny would be dissing kurt cause he wrote half her songs oh and ps she is amazing weather u agree or not
Sorry to say this but Grunge is dead, can't you tell by popularized pop and rap shit they have today? Its sad to say but its the truth. Rap actually used to mean something too, now it doesn't. Doesnt take any talent to make a fuckin rap beat now aday
Bush was a horrible, pretentious, wannabe grunge band. STP was kind of later and not really part of the scene. People have already mentioned Mudhoney and Sonic Youth. Screaming Trees are also missing.
@Justeatmytoast Yes you are right. i'm sorry i was confused Pearl jam is a "pop band". Start to Think with your own brain. If PEARL JAM is not GRUNGE, nothing is grunge. think about Greenriver or something like that. I only forgot to talk about Mother Love Bone a cool grunge band too. Advice: Read less and listen more
@moonlightdriverdarks Green River is not Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam is not Green River. It has nothing to do with Green River. Not like another grunge/alternative bands, Pearl Jam hadn't got any support from indipendent, alternative music scene. It's a stadion rock band promoted by mainstream.
@MahAttack True butNirvana killed the whole big hair, screaming about the devil isome were awesome like Metallica,AC?DC OZZY then Skid roe faith no more house of pain started mixing rock w rap all kinds of music was conversion and Nirvana, wrote lyrics that they just wanted to throw unlikley lyrics with real life lyrics, nevermind was like f*ck it lets throw lyrics that if they make sense good if not"nevermind"them enjoy a fresh sound it broke the ice for bands not to be afraid of unlikley lyrics
What about Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog and I'm Above by Mad Season? I know those bands were just one-offs by people like Staley and Cornell, but still they are great albums with some fantastic material on them! Those two songs are worthy of my top 20!
Alice in Chains and Nirvana are the best bands on here.

@moonlightdriverdarks Without Mudhoney: yeah, correct, but Pearl Jam isn't grunge.
