@ThoughtPatternss - I worked on the solo to Giant Steps for a while actually. Got about 10 seconds in (which seems short, but it's a lot of notes!) and then gave up. I've done parts of some other Coltrane solos too. Spiral. His solo to Mr. PC is probably my all time favorite sax solo. I tend to have too short an attention span to transcribe a full solo though...
@abshmusic In your opinion maybe. Don't you think the user of the bass would know what he likes best? And besides, a Fodera Monarch Elite is a pretty awesome bass.
That fodera is beautiful man, as is your playing. You aren't using a line-in here are you? If not, have you ever considered using one? I would Love to hear the "true" sound of that bass
@Romans10Verse9 - No, just recording audio from the iPhone's mic here. If you want to hear this bass line-in, check out my vid '88 Fodera Monarch Elite - Bass Quickie' -- Most of my other videos (with other basses) are recorded line-in.
Not to completely go off topic from your great playing, but this was taken with an iPhone 4S? Dangit, got to get myself one of those... Is the audio also from the iPhone? If so, then it also has great sound recording!
@zekuhryuh - Yes and yes. I'm really impressed with this camera! Even the front facing camera (which I think is still VGA?) seems better than my EVO, which was 1.3mp. And the audio quality is fantastic. If you're purely recording audio (TapeMachine app on android, or FiRe app on iPhone), the quality is about the same, but for whatever reason, when you're recording a video on android the audio is much more compressed and crummy.
@DiFFicult0CURE - I wouldn't call myself a fanboy. I just like Apple products. They have excellent designs and I'm attracted to the tight integration between apple products. I'm a geek, so I have plenty of non-apple gadgets too ;)
i really enjoy your playing ! and what better companion that a great bass
you know
i got into listening Mshell ngdeocello after listening to your cover a few years ago and now i can tell you that im a better bassist as a result of expanding my musical library
@oskrmnss all pickups are magnetic. they "pick up" the vibrations from the string and turn them into electric signals that the amplifier can then amplify.
whether the pickups are active, which means they run on batteries, is a different question.
Isn't it beautiful when your bass as such an infinite sustain that you end up turning the knob to "shut her up" ? ^^
I play a Fame Baphomet NTB 5 (EADGC) and while neither my bass nor my skills are anywhere comparable to that which is featured here, I now know the joy playing a nice instrument brings... so I suspect you enjoyed yourself ;-)
@MazzeoLucho - I guess (although you're asking this on a video that I recorded on an iPhone?). I don't think the graphics card really matters (I have no idea what I have...) -- the camera/optics quality is what matters, and the Macbook Pro webcams will be the same as what I have.
Very Low action giving you a lot of fret buzz...

Foderas have such lovely woody tone. I used to think they were thin sounding but i have grown to love them

Just wondering. Are you using flatwound or roundwound?
And I just wanna say I love you'r video's and I look forward to them all.
Take care and Merry Christmas - Gavin

@Sheepbend - Roundwound. They're Thomastik Infeld Jazz Rounds (on both basses). Thanks!

Have you thought of transcribing Coltrane leads and the like on bass? That would be amazing.

I used to own this bass, such an amazing tone. Sure was heavy, but worth it. Is it still tenored?
mrfreezebass 3 months ago
@mrfreezebass - Yes! It's super heavy, but it contributes to the awesome tone, so it's definitely worth it :)
GBagley 3 months ago in playlist Uploaded videos
@mrfreezebass - It was B-G when I got it, and I strung it E-C. Had it that way (8 months-ish) up until recently when I re-strung to B-G.

@GBagley One those, "I wish I had never sold that bass" situations. Ah well, glad its still making great music. Sounds great!

The Stambaugh custom bass, wich you do not have anymore, is much better.

Can you play any Jeroen Paul Thesseling stuff, or the like?

@HandofMisery - Hadn't heard of him. Outside of a handful of my favorites, I actually don't listen to or play a whole lot of Metal.

@GBagley He does a lot of fretless stuff, he's a wonderful player.
