Well I have to admit being a Irish fan and all. They played like crap,and didn't deserve to win the game because the way they played on the field. Any football wheither it would be Oklahoma,Texas,Ohio State,Boise State etc would have played like that they would have lost too. By there last national title they won was 1987 and 1988. Jerome Bettis was there running back which which went on played for the Steelers. Rocket Ismail was on that team too. Lou Holtz was the man!!!.

I know lots of graduates who are unemployed years later because the industry recognizes that the program is sub-par. Honestly, what are they good for? They have zero math and science programs, and are incredibly expensive. And just to be clear, the world hates USC, and I'm not a USC fan. Just your average midwestern guy.

I respect ND for it's great tradition, but for the last 20 years almost they have been badly overrated. With Kelly things may finally turn around for you guys. Hell, Michigan (my team), has been in the dumps for several years now, but we're hoping we don't end up in the same position as ND.

@usuberalles They didn't play like champions because Notre Dame is light years away from being championship caliber. Notre Dame would at best be middle of the pack in any BCS conference except for maybe the Big East. Even there, WVU and Pitt would probably give them a beating.
@TheSportsman131 If not Pitt, then WVU or South Florida or Rutgers. Notre Dame gets handled by Boston College pretty regularly. If they can do it, I'm pretty sure some of the aforementioned teams could do it too. The point is, Notre Dame is extremely far away from being a championship caliber program.

Idk if he'll bring us a title or not, but he's setting the program up for greatness. I think a title is gonna be possible in the next few years.
@TheFreshTrumpet It is possible that Kelly's changes will set the stage for championship greatness in the future, but that could be said for many programs with new coaches. ND's problems are about more than just coaching. 1) They face constraints due to their relatively higher academic standards 2) Indiana doesn't have fantastic football talent 3) ND can't count on attracting top athletes from around the country to come and play there like they did in the past.
@AcesHighTrooper69 I was iffy up until #3, which you go dead right. Our best recruit was Manti Teo, and we haven't gotten a better one. You'd think more people would want to come to the U of Our Lady, but our football is not good. Well, our football is fair, but I get what you're sayin.
@TheFreshTrumpet There are a few factors at play. For starters, there are now lots of top notch football programs around the country. So kids in talent rich states like Florida or Texas are likely to stay closer to home (especially given the less than ideal weather in South Bend). For better or worse, the Catholic connection isn't going to draw kids like it did in the past. Finally, most top football players just want to go pro so they're not very concerned with academic prestige.

Well I have to admit being a Irish fan and all. They played like crap,and didn't deserve to win the game because the way they played on the field. Any football wheither it would be Oklahoma,Texas,Ohio State,Boise State etc would have played like that they would have lost too. By there last national title they won was 1987 and 1988. Jerome Bettis was there running back which which went on played for the Steelers. Rocket Ismail was on that team too. Lou Holtz was the man!!!.

ND football is top 40, not top 25. ND fans need to stop saying "next year" when they annually get 4 and 5 star major recruits.

ND will never be as good as everyone thinks or at least anytime soon. They will not win a national championship anytime soon mainly because they won't join a conference. They would get killed if they joined a conference like the Big 10. They would get killed by Wisconsin, Ohio St, Michigan, Illinois and their running game which is the best in the Big 10 (real stat they lead the Big 10 in yards per game), and Nebraska.

I know lots of graduates who are unemployed years later because the industry recognizes that the program is sub-par. Honestly, what are they good for? They have zero math and science programs, and are incredibly expensive. And just to be clear, the world hates USC, and I'm not a USC fan. Just your average midwestern guy.

a powerhouse. The teams have shown a steady decline in leadership and competitive
skills since Lou Holtz left. Except for the 2005 team, the teams have been pretty mediocre. I dont see Notre Dame ever having a team like the ones with Bettis, Lycht,
Ismail, or Rick Myers. But I'll always be a Notre Dame fan.

ever felt disappointed was the seasons under Weis. There were several games they
didnt play like champions--Syracuse, Navy, USC. They just plain quit. That wouldnt
happen under Holtz, Ara, Devine. Thats Weis' legacy: Fat people shouldnt be football coaches.

If they can do it, I'm pretty sure some of the aforementioned teams could do it too. The point is, Notre Dame is extremely far away from being a championship caliber program.

Idk if he'll bring us a title or not, but he's setting the program up for greatness. I think a title is gonna be possible in the next few years.

@TheFreshTrumpet It is possible that Kelly's changes will set the stage for championship greatness in the future, but that could be said for many programs with new coaches. ND's problems are about more than just coaching. 1) They face constraints due to their relatively higher academic standards 2) Indiana doesn't have fantastic football talent 3) ND can't count on attracting top athletes from around the country to come and play there like they did in the past.

@TheFreshTrumpet There are a few factors at play. For starters, there are now lots of top notch football programs around the country. So kids in talent rich states like Florida or Texas are likely to stay closer to home (especially given the less than ideal weather in South Bend). For better or worse, the Catholic connection isn't going to draw kids like it did in the past. Finally, most top football players just want to go pro so they're not very concerned with academic prestige.
