I struggle with the same question, but this past election cycle answered it for me. The NRA backed McCain in the primaries, and then backed Lindsay Graham (SC) over his opponent (who was a Ron Paul conservative).
It's obvious to me that the NRA is now just a Republican cog. While they care about the 2nd Amendment, they give up way too much just to support a Party.
The GOA is a no compromise group. And when it comes to our rights, we can not afford to compromise.
I had joined the NRA back a few years ago. The ONLY thing my membership to NRA got me was more junk mail and more telephone calls from the NRA asking me for more money. The GOA has got to be a better organizaton!
The NRA is no longer what it once was. Thats for sure.
GOA and JPFO have way more teeth than NRA.

This is great...I go back and forth on whether to send BOTH the NRA and GOA money, or just sending more to the GOA.
