Christopher Yang has 20 years of Kendo experience, including practice sessions on Tsukuba University and the Keishicho. Also while being just escaped the teenage, he was the US participant of the Nakamura-Hai in Japan.
No doubt that Maruyama is a strong player, but C.Yang´s Kendo Vitae is unparalleled.
Wow! Sandy Maruyama actually beat Christopher Yang? I knew that Maruyama is quite a strong and experienced player, but Christopher Yang is one hell of a competitor.
I think some people would agree that it just wasn't Yang-sensei's day during that tournament. He lost before quarter finals in the individual also. Everybody was in shock.
I agree with that, i remember his victory in the 2005 AUSKF Championship. But scoring a Men Ippon like that on C.Yang is after all not "everyday kendo business" .
Well this was a team tournament, and SCKF already would have won anyways, since 3 out of 5 SCKF Men's Team already won against the SCKO Men's Team; The Taisho match (the one in the video) wouldn't have made any difference whether he won or lost, so that might have had something to do with it.
