Does Shihan Nishiuchi Sensei have a sense of humor? I kinda giggled when he said "I hope you're following me." I don't have any disrespect for the man, just thinking it's a bit funny.
@Luneys74012 Yes, he has a sense of humor, but I think he said that because it gets complicated bending yourself into a pretzel (I can't do this at all).
yay!! I can do this. Not as smooth as in this vid but still :-D I guess I need to practise for that. (at least I could keep up with his tempo) love it!!
@wolfkingaka If you can do it, you'll be a hero, at least in your own mind - I certainly can't do it, and since this video is now 19 years old, Shihan would probably be a little stiff at it.
Yeah, both types - I had to move my arms towards the edges, though - and my joints were like *Crackle* The cool thing is that I had this problem in my should where it cracks sometimes when I move it a certain way, but after this, it stopped for a while!
just about managed it, but feel I cheated by dropping to knees at various points. Nice one to work on tho... my wrist really needed something like that to work on
You guys are way ahead of me - I am stiff in every joint and have been since grade school, so I can't blame old age! When we do stretches in class, I have to make sure I don't push to the point of burning pain - that's an early warning before damage.
We do more exercises and stretching than specific technique training during each class! But Shihan started at a young age, so a stiff old American like me is far from flexible - it takes a lot work to get like this...
when you say a lot of work, what kind of work? I would actually like to build up flexibility throughout my whole body, one of the only places i didn't think about was the shoulders. How can u stretch them to become more flexible?
A combination of strength training and stretching is done in our class, but the stretching is probably the most important for flexibility. Since she is also an acupuncturist, my sensei udiscusses ideas based in Chinese medicine to explain how our bodies function, so she will comment on diets and meridian imbalances as explanation for some problems. But it still takes many years of work to get anywhere near Shihan's flexibility.
That was so kl!!! and scary!!! XD wow that was amazin and i soooooo wish i was dat flexbile :D but damn!! wen he reversed it, it sent a tingle down my spine. *4 thumbs up!!* lol OK i took P.E GCSE's and stuff and i know the shoulder has a ball and socket joint and has da greatest range of movements but is it supposed to THAT much range of movement. that was a sick vid though!! XD Ihav learnt somethin 2day :D
That's discipline. You won't see those retards in UFC doing this before they beat one another up. But then again UFC has nothing to do with patience or discipline.
hahahaha i didnt know nishiuchi shihan called these bo excercies "boflex!" But in all seriousness much respect to this man i have trained with him many times over the years and every time i see him i learn a great deal and am throughly impressed with his pang-gai-noon-ryi karate-do and kobudo technical ability.

You can only work within the constraints of the body you have. Look after yourself :o)

how do you train your arms to do that? What are some flexibility exercises that incorporate the use of this joint to further strengthen it?
