As a Brit who lived in HK for 8 yrs in total, both before and post independence, I can only say that I loved the people of HK and I was delighted to have called so many of you 'friend'. I wish you all the best, and whether the politicians are appointed (sorry, 'elected') with with the 'blessing' of Beijing or London, I'm sure the great HK spirit of humour and hard work will carry on regardless. You're a wonderful city, and I miss you so much!

香港今日繁荣根本就没有英国人什么功劳。上世纪五十年代之前，英国殖民香港已有百年，香港不要说比上海，连广州也不如。真正发展成国际都会，还要拜国民党失去大陆之功劳，大量江浙沪资本家逃至香港，带去了钱和人才。后来中国大陆改革开放，香港作为中国对世界的窗口，发展转口贸易，就这样才完成产业升级。
香港人怀念英国殖民，那是一厢情愿。中国是没有民主，共产党政权是威权体制，但是英国人又何尝给过港人民主？
