It is clear now that contraception and abortion have destroyed the sustainability of social security. It appears that exterminating the people that were supposed to be contributing to the money pot is not a good economic practice for a nation. But that's ok, we can print money and legalize the illegals so as to tax them, kill grandma because she is drawing benefits from the system, penalize scientists for discovering technology that causes people to live longer, raise the age for retirement...
taken from article : The deficits - $10 billion in 2010 and $9 billion in 2011 - won't affect payments to retirees because Social Security has accumulated surpluses from previous years totaling $2.5 trillion
$ 2.5 Trillion is enough to cover deficit of 10 billion a year for 25 years even without interest that could be earned .
The system the Reagan administration set up was designed to run surpluses for another decade and then start dipping into the surplus to pay for the babyboomers for at least 25 years. We currently recieve 940 billion thru SS taxes. If we allow just 20% of workers to leave the system, that's a loss of just under 190 billion per year. That means the system will run a deficit much sooner (much bigger than 10 billion per year) and will be depleted much quicker, right when we need the money.
Not to mention the fact that nobody would start "opting in" until just before retirement.
We could just remove the cap on it; right now, you only pay into SS for the first $90k of your income, meaning that millionaires pay into it the exact same amount that people who make $91k per year. Of course, such a move won't be popular among the people rich enough to bribe a Congressman.
Reagan increased the social sercurity tax by 2% in orderd to run a surplus to save enough funds to cover the increase in cost once the baby boomers started to retire. SS funds are seperated from the general budget which was running a deficit at the time.
You're wrong HTWW. The bailouts is not an act of liberalism, it is corporatism. They are socializing the losses, but privatizing the profits. The taxpayers are the only ones that get screwed.
His Social Sercurity is impossible SS functions by today's workers paying for today's retirees. If we allow workers to opt out of the system and not pay into it, there will be a sudden and large drop in SS revenue and not enough money to pay the current beneficiaries, causing the system to collaspe. SS would not last a year, if we implemented the idea he suggested on his video. That's just a fact.
Social Security is the single biggest expenditure of the US government. It's obviously not sustainable, so it's going to have to be privatized or just scratched all together. There's no way around it.
And if you're too dumb to not save for retirement, well, that's your problem.
Polls from february show that a majority of chicago residents DO want their city to host the olympics. And they should, in my opinion. It would be good for stimulating Chicago's economy, you'd think. I can understand why the administration wouldn't want a few vocal minority opinions to cast an exaggerated shadow over the efforts to bring the olympics to that great city. I don't agree with censoring folks, though. Go Bears!
750,000 are waiting in line to received their social security disability benefits in the state of california alone. anyone want the link just ask, our corrupt gov. is siphoning all funds s.s. medicare, disability, workers compensation, vet funds, pensions, ect.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ever notice that conservatives always want a bailout for the rich cronies? If we didn't give trillions of dollars to Wall Street SS wouldn't be going broke.
Ever notice the democrooks voted YES on it and then spent their half when Obama went into office? Ever notice this is how Obama nationalized banks and auto companies? My oh my.
10 years of GOP rule? From 1995-2006 republicans owned congress and from 2001-2008 they had the white house..what is your point? For every "mistake you can point at about Bush I can point to 2 made by Clinton and the Dems .
Henry Paulson is the author of the bailout. He is a Republican and was appointed by Bush to be the Secretary of the Treasury. If was Paulson and Bush that threatened martial law if we didn't give trillions to the bankers. Bernake the chairman of the Federal Reserve, also appointed by Bush, bought up all the fraudulent derivatives from the banks at full fake value.
You have not debunked a single thing I have said and noone just rammed that down our throats it was voted on, so either stick to the fucking facts or get the fuck outa here.
how is that relevant, asshat? You were talking about "liberals" wanting stuff and not paying, I was giving you the more important and direct examples of conservative Republicans, like Paulson, Cheney, Greenspan, Bush, etc., giving bailouts to their cronies.
But you, the Democrat, wants to talk about "liberals" and not Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, and the Wall Street bankers. Got it.
Yet you prove my point all the more yet you are too stupid to realize it because your facts are bastardized LOL. What was the opposition to TARP? Who complained? REPUBLICANS! Who voted for it? McCain, Obama, Pelosi (insert your FAV democrook here). Who gets money from those banks? Dodd? Obama? Frank? I never voted for Bush either and was never a fan but nearly all of his puke that passed you can point to a liberal democrat who supported it on the day of the vote. No child left behind was Kennedy
Henry Paulson, the Republican Treasury Secretary, appointed by Bush, is the person who wrote TARP.
>I never voted for Bush
Yes, you're a Democrat too, that just happens to like GOP videos, defend Republicans and blame Democrats for anything the Republican do. Typical Democrat lulz
Again you are ignoring alot of shit to keep your point which if anyone actually paid attention to how everything happened would KNOW you are full of shit to play it off as you are. I am a democrat & have been for 20 years, I am just not a socialist and the whole TARP smelt bad and democrooks voted YES for it. They have and had the majority since 2007. For things to get cleaned up people have to fess up to reality. The difference between you and I is I am not a drone LOL
tubaboy71 Henry Paulson is a Republican, he got his start with Nixon in the 1970's, and was appointed by Bush. Bernake, also by Bush. Bush is a Republican - you liberal Democrats may forget, I can understand how you would get confused.
The Republican party is the party that bailed out the bankers, but you'll be happy to know your party - the Democrats - agree with Republicans, so Obama is carrying on the Republican tradition of bailing out bankers.
tubaboy71 you are getting lost again. We were talking about Henry Paulson, the author of TARP, and Ben Bernake and Alan Greenspan, the current and former chairmen of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Also George Bush and the Republican party.
Are you having trouble keeping up? I do not see how Dan Rather, a TV actor, has anything to do with Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, nor TARP.
Ok Crayonnation lets just totally over look at the vote on TARP LOL although that is what the people we vote for earn their keep. Lets als ignore how Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America and the rest are Democratic lap dogs. You can bring out all the names that you want and like to help bury the simple facts to try to make your stupidity seem as brillant as you like, but as I said yesterday holds true and you have not done a damn thing except give a weak assed excuse.
>lets just totally over look at the vote on TARP LOL
Let's not. Henry Paulson, the Republican Treasury Secretary appointed by George Bush and affirmed by the Republican Congress - not to mention former CEO of Goldman Sachs - is the person who did the bailouts - TARP.
>Lets als ignore how Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America and the rest are Democratic lap dogs
GS and JPM are run by Jews, Ken Lewis is a southern Republican conservative.
You are and already have overlooked the vote fucktard crayon boy and if you are not paying attention to what has gone on with the banks you must be some sort of liberal racist LOL
When I was young and stupid I was a liberal democrat but as I got older and seen /remembered/compared Carter to Clinton especially 1993 and 1994 I started to become more conservativethen looking back at Gore and Kerry's code words I must say I am not a liberal and 60's hippies have NO business running our country. :-)
>When my brain was still fully functional, I was a liberal democrat but as I grew senile and bitter I forgot everything I had learned in life, came to the conclusion that everyone who cares about the poor must be incompetent and still believe it no matter what happens because I lost my critical thinking skills decades ago.
Ahh yes superDim all that the choosen one has done isn't helping anyone and the hurt is being spread pretty far and wide. Equal the playing field is what? social justice? How about setting stimulus up to help businness to HIRE people so the poor can EARN a living? Happened in 1996 so why must the liberals bastardize ones ability for a career or to actually make money? Instead we get dumb fucks spending money at a record rate on nothing good and reaching for more power and control.
You keep saying they're getting more power and control, but none of their actions legitimize your accusations. The stimulus was a bipartisan attempt to minimize the effect of the recession (unfortunately, we have no way of knowing how bad it would have gotten if they had done it differently).
I made no mention of any of the the things you're bitching about. If you want to argue with things that I'm not saying, then just talk to yourself and stop posting your rants as responses to my posts.
LOL No house votes and 2 rep votes in the senate is bi partisan? It was 3 rep votes in senate but Spector changed parties. You are so full of shit that your eyes are brown and you have poop breath.
Also in case your liberal doesn't quite work correctly those 3 votes were needed to pass because the liberals themselves didnt have the votes! If it was so great why did they need 3 votes? Frakenstein wasn't in office yet but that is strange huh? It was a great bill not to vote for and look how fucking great it is! It is a huge fail!
You are a jackass those are your words and there was nothing bipartisan about the stimulus bill. The dems couldn't pass it and then bribed 3 republicans to vote for it...one of the 3 had to switch his party because he voted for it. Are you fucking ignorant of history?
If I were ignorant of history, you and I would be in agreement. The stimulus bill was backed by the presidential candidates for both parties (they stopped the race to promote it together, remember?) and was passed by a largely Republican congress. Bush was in support of it too... None of the major Republicans opposed it until several months after it was passed, because now that Obama's president they can blame their actions on him, because their constituents have the memories of goldfish.
TARP AKA the bail out was passed while Bush was in office dumb fuck the stimulus was about 6 weeks after Obama took office...two totally different bills dumb fuck...you have to be thee dumbest lib I have talked to in a week on here
Well it is easy just eliminate the payroll tax cap. That Social Security will not be there has been said for generations. Current workers are paying for their parents and grandparents. Of course the "me generation" does not want to pay for their parents. Privatizing Social Security is a very fringe idea.
Because one plan has already been tried and is failing so he wants people to be able to get out of it and use their own money, and the other will likely fail too so he doesn't want the government wasting time and money especially during a recession.
conservatives in Europe are very different from the GOP... especially in welfare states like Germany, they are social conservatives... don't even touch topics that you don't know jack shit about...
For the next two years? LOL. I doubt we'll ever see it recover. It's a Ponzi scheme that makes Bernie Madoff look like a joke and people are legally forced to adhere to it so it's going to go on for a long, long time to come.
They collect specimens of spinach and broccoli if they can find it. If not, they just find something they like, paint it green and steal it. Yeah, something like that.
russia only has a flat tax because of the wealth being obtained from there natural resources (mainly gas)are allowing them to be bold-is this guy really advocating america starts following russian ecnomic policys-this proves what an idiot he is-ireland will still be in a recession long after america's has ended-also you heard it from his own mouth again he gets info from fox-is fox far and balanced? isnt a guy who who actually beleaves what fox is saying is brain dead sheep? and is that herpes?
the only reason ireland has no corperate tax is to attract US business- what you said about england is wrong the olympics in chicago would help create jobs-duh,social security being in a deficit is only gonna last two years unless usa's economy stops exzisting there will always be social security-and europe are trying to pass laws(lisbon treaty) to take away members states rights on how a eu country can govern its economy/courts and militarys all to be controlled from brussells
You know whats gonna happen when Chicago gets the olympics? Daley's pals are gonna get rich and Obamas pals are gonna get rich. And you know who's gonna pay for it? The Illinois taxpayer, which is becomeing extinct.
I live in the burbs of Chicago, and the last time daley "cleaned up" we ended up with crime increases and gangs in our schools. He'll have to "clean up" again for the Olympics, so no thanks to even more displaced criminals. Any money Chicago government gets...it WILL be fed into the machine one way or another, not to mention making my home town the next terrorist target. As far as the government going through the garbage..I have two dogs and a cat..i'll leave something really special for them.
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Angela Merkel´s party, is known as a conservative party, in reality they are more or less leftist liberals who conserve little and only ape good values when election time comes around.
Two Rivers detention facility in Hardin Montana to be run by a foreign company.
Will the facility be used for gitmo detainees or US citizens? Is this a fema camp or for people that refuse the vaccine or when the dollar collapses? No one at the company address has even heard of the company!
It's no surprise that America isn't taking a lesson from the neoliberal reforms in europe. Europe went through it's statist phase before we did, we're going to have to suffer quite a bit before we catch up to their liberalization of the economy.
I hear there are 6, 1 billion dollar IOU's in the SS Trust fund.. the same trust fund by law that was to be ONLY used for SS.. they are thieves my friends and we're allowing it.. if traffic stopped nationwide one day would that get their attention..?
You are absolutely right; it is called "nut-shell" spending. The guv takes $ from one system for another, and leave behind IOU's in the hope that they will be able to pay those back later. Going forward, there will be more demands for payments than income for the SS Trust fund (more people of retirement age).
Now about going through trash, you know that governments already believe they are the rightful owners of your output, why would that be any different when it comes to trash?
The cost of preparing for an Olympics far outweighs the benefit from gross receipts tax, lodgers tax, and tourism income (these taxes are specific to the U.S.). It is more for name recognition and prestige, but if you think your city already has enough name recognition, it is not worth the cost. China used the Olympics to show off to the world, but obviously spent far more than what they made. Chicago has horrible problems with foreclosures right now, and probably does not need this expense.
Seems Obama's right-hand-woman Ms Jarret represents people that own the land on which the Olypics is going to be on! How many more connections to corruption do you need to see that this guy is our biggest mistake? Our country is doomed if we don't wake up.
I am started to get fed up with Americans criticising the united kingdom, The UK is a democratic country that happens to be allot more left leaning than the USA and the fact that we are taking climate change seriously should be admired by America.
Opting out will instantly destroy S.S. The system is a ponzi scheme. We are not paying into a savings account, we are paying in (supposedly) to fund current needs. Sadly, since we have been aborting so many of our future population and we instead allow people to live here undocumented without paying into the system, we now have a population glut of older folks without the younger population to support it.
HWTW, I agree with much of your views, but I get the idea that you think that we do not healthcare reform. Is this the case or are you just against obamacare as I am?
Lee-- never doubt that ur doing something of value here. You're a smart guy that's giving a much needed alternative perspective on matters of national importance. There are lots of people out here who appreciate ur energy and passion...
Oh yeah, Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark, highest taxed country in the world and also the happiest, higher standard of living than the USA. The Netherlands is a totally different country. But your American so it's not surprising you can't make such a basic distinction.
An opt-out option will further weaken social security. I guess that's the point--to remove the safety net entirely. Social Darwinism is a facet of fascism.
Social Darwinism is also the cornerstone of the republican philosophy - sink or swim. I find it ironic that with so many Jesus freaks forming its base, they find the idea of being your brother's keeper repellent.
It's so idiotic to discuss labels. Either way... Wasn't Social Security first created during fascism in Brazil? Anyway both Musolini and Hitler most prominent platform issues was to introduce social security.
And why would Social Security be weakened? Oh yes, because free people would organize more sound schemes. There is no planning behind social security, it has been merely a regressive tax till this point.
YOUR argument is dumb. Look into the collective societies people founded in both Britain and the USA before the govt created social schemes. These groups collectively paid for a society doctor, and because govt didn't regulate doctors so much there was a high level of competetiveness and as such cheap health care.
You're telling me that a concept whereby free individuals band together under their own accord, and employ people in private contracts is communist? Really?
Social Security came about because it is the nature of government to expand and take control. In the early 1900's the British govt deided to take control of healthcare, and now Britain has a slow ineffeicient system.
Keep up your statist argument, people like you is why the taxes go up.
Go figure, that's why the WHO ranks the British health-care system 18th in the world while, the most excellent of all, American system is ranked 37th, just below Costa Rica.
Your argument is typical of teabagger republicans (at least the more literate). I hope you never find yourself really sick.
This sort of argument is typical of those teabagging Founding Fathers also.
Here's an idea; if you believe the WHO , then move your dumbass to number 36 , Costa Rica. Enjoy your "better" healthcare , and stop trying to STEAL money from the rest of us, and destroy the individual rights and liberties this country was founded on.
I want to be an individual , not part of any collective that includes incompetent and dependent pussies like you....
Corporate subsidies are the problem. Get the corporations out of medicine and we'd see real progress. Handing the problem over to the Government isn't going to fix it.
Luig843453, and how exactly to you propose getting the corporations out of medicine without government intervention? Let me guess; at a grassroots-level, rejecting all modern medicine, and having healthcare provided by your local shaman?
"...if you believe the WHO, then move your dumbass to number 36, Costa Rica. Enjoy your 'better' healthcare, and stop trying to STEAL money, blah nonsense, bullshit, blah, blah, blah."
First, why should anyone who disagrees with you and your ilk leave the USA? Is it YOUR country and not theirs?
Second, I am not American, and have laughed heartily at the moronic debates that have occupied you tards for decades, since before you were born, bucjizzom.
Your little system of 'free individuals' banding together (to employ doctors) sounds great. I'm sure it worked really well for the 18th and 19th century wealthy. And I'm sure you'd like to see such a system in place today. Imagine - you could have house calls!
The point is, and this is a simple point that evades selfish people like yourself - the poor of the 18th and 19th centuries were fucked.
It's not that it is "my country and not thiers" ,it's that I understand the U.S. Constitution and it's restrictions on our government, and they do not.
The fact that you are not American explains alot. It explains why you don't understand the American spirit, or a desire to be self-reliant and suceed OR FAIL on our own.
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither, and lose both. " - Benjamin Franklin
Read a book on mutual aid societies if you want to read on what existed before the welfare state. It's not like politicians invented it. Anyhow are you even serious? There are so many annuity plans available today, it's mind boggling. If there are people who lack the discernment to save, and you want to force them to save, then just force people to put the money today reserved for social security into whatever other plan they choose. If they don't choose, the govt chooses for them.
Just to add: I'm a sucker for microeconomics. If you want to make an argument for adverse selection, or whatever costs you think apply, I'd be happy to have a rational exchange of ideas.
This argument assumes that there is a need for everything politicans do.
By the same reasoning, there was obviously a need for kommunism in Russia, a need to invade Irak, a need for Zibabwe to get rid of white people and a need for germany to get rid of Jews and homosexuals...
Social Security was started because so many elderly were living in poverty. There were weekly account of old people found starved to death at the time. It has been the most successful anti-poverty program ever conceived. And there may be some solubility problems with it, but don't pretend you conservatives give a shit about it because you've been trying to destroy it for 60 years.

Sure about that? We still have troops in Germany.
There is one major difference though; social programs actually help someone, whereas wars are basically a polite way of saying "mass murder."
uberjim83 2 years ago

Go Bears!

Henry Paulson, George Bush, and Alan Greenspan (behind the derivative bubble) were Republicans. Did you forget?
Ever noticed that 10 years of GOP rule has utterly destroyed the economy and US domination of the world?
The banks should have been "nationalized" immediately - that's called "bankruptcy"
CarryANationIII 2 years ago
@Crayonnation
Did you fail civics?
10 years of GOP rule? From 1995-2006 republicans owned congress and from 2001-2008 they had the white house..what is your point? For every "mistake you can point at about Bush I can point to 2 made by Clinton and the Dems .
tubaboy71 2 years ago
tubaboy, have you been asleep for the last year?
Henry Paulson is the author of the bailout. He is a Republican and was appointed by Bush to be the Secretary of the Treasury. If was Paulson and Bush that threatened martial law if we didn't give trillions to the bankers. Bernake the chairman of the Federal Reserve, also appointed by Bush, bought up all the fraudulent derivatives from the banks at full fake value.
Your partisan bullshittery is rather sad.

You have not debunked a single thing I have said and noone just rammed that down our throats it was voted on, so either stick to the fucking facts or get the fuck outa here.
tubaboy71 2 years ago
how is that relevant, asshat? You were talking about "liberals" wanting stuff and not paying, I was giving you the more important and direct examples of conservative Republicans, like Paulson, Cheney, Greenspan, Bush, etc., giving bailouts to their cronies.
But you, the Democrat, wants to talk about "liberals" and not Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, and the Wall Street bankers. Got it.
CarryANationIII 2 years ago
Yet you prove my point all the more yet you are too stupid to realize it because your facts are bastardized LOL. What was the opposition to TARP? Who complained? REPUBLICANS! Who voted for it? McCain, Obama, Pelosi (insert your FAV democrook here). Who gets money from those banks? Dodd? Obama? Frank? I never voted for Bush either and was never a fan but nearly all of his puke that passed you can point to a liberal democrat who supported it on the day of the vote. No child left behind was Kennedy
tubaboy71 2 years ago
Henry Paulson, the Republican Treasury Secretary, appointed by Bush, is the person who wrote TARP.
>I never voted for Bush
Yes, you're a Democrat too, that just happens to like GOP videos, defend Republicans and blame Democrats for anything the Republican do. Typical Democrat lulz
CarryANationIII 2 years ago
Again you are ignoring alot of shit to keep your point which if anyone actually paid attention to how everything happened would KNOW you are full of shit to play it off as you are. I am a democrat & have been for 20 years, I am just not a socialist and the whole TARP smelt bad and democrooks voted YES for it. They have and had the majority since 2007. For things to get cleaned up people have to fess up to reality. The difference between you and I is I am not a drone LOL
tubaboy71 2 years ago
tubaboy71 Henry Paulson is a Republican, he got his start with Nixon in the 1970's, and was appointed by Bush.
That's why you're a Democrat I guess.
CarryANationIII 2 years ago

Focus, tubaboy71.
CarryANationIII 2 years ago
Ok Crayonnation lets just totally over look at the vote on TARP LOL although that is what the people we vote for earn their keep. tubaboy71 2 years ago

Instead we get dumb fucks spending money at a record rate on nothing good and reaching for more power and control.
tubaboy71 2 years ago
You keep saying they're getting more power and control, but none of their actions legitimize your accusations. The stimulus was a bipartisan attempt to minimize the effect of the recession (unfortunately, we have no way of knowing how bad it would have gotten if they had done it differently).

tubaboy71 2 years ago
1: What are you replying to?
2: The mere fact that it needs votes doesn't make it a bad bill. By that logic, all bills are bad.
uberjim83 2 years ago
"The stimulus was a bipartisan attempt"
You are a jackass those are your words and there was nothing bipartisan about the stimulus bill. The dems couldn't pass it and then bribed 3 republicans to vote for it...one of the 3 had to switch his party because he voted for it. Are you fucking ignorant of history?
tubaboy71 2 years ago
If I were ignorant of history, you and I would be in agreement. The stimulus bill was backed by the presidential candidates for both parties (they stopped the race to promote it together, remember?) and was passed by a largely Republican congress. Bush was in support of it too... None of the major Republicans opposed it until several months after it was passed, because now that Obama's president they can blame their actions on him, because their constituents have the memories of goldfish.

smkymcnugget420 2 years ago
The cost of preparing for an Olympics far outweighs the benefit from gross receipts tax, lodgers tax, and tourism income (these taxes are specific to the U.S.). It is more for name recognition and prestige, but if you think your city already has enough name recognition, it is not worth the cost. China used the Olympics to show off to the world, but obviously spent far more than what they made. Chicago has horrible problems with foreclosures right now, and probably does not need this expense.

There is no planning behind social security, it has been merely a regressive tax till this point.
picapauengracado 2 years ago
"And why would Social Security be weakened? Oh yes, because free people would organize more sound schemes."
Why didn't this happen before the advent of Social Security? Why was it necessary to set up Social Security in the first place?
Your argument is dumb.
nicogum 2 years ago
YOUR argument is dumb. Look into the collective societies people founded in both Britain and the USA before the govt created social schemes. These groups collectively paid for a society doctor, and because govt didn't regulate doctors so much there was a high level of competetiveness and as such cheap health care.
Your argument is dumber.
FUZZYisBIG 2 years ago 3
Well, if these 'collective societies' (sounds commie to mommie) were so great, why was there a need to create Social Security?
Please answer that question.
Your argument is the dumberest of all.
nicogum 2 years ago
You're telling me that a concept whereby free individuals band together under their own accord, and employ people in private contracts is communist? Really?
Social Security came about because it is the nature of government to expand and take control. In the early 1900's the British govt deided to take control of healthcare, and now Britain has a slow ineffeicient system.
Keep up your statist argument, people like you is why the taxes go up.
FUZZYisBIG 2 years ago 3
Go figure, that's why the WHO ranks the British health-care system 18th in the world while, the most excellent of all, American system is ranked 37th, just below Costa Rica.

Any questions?
