yesterday I ran into the original dvd from Beckett's t.v. works and it seems this is indeed the music accompanying the piece. The quality from this excerpt is obviously not the best but it's nothing close to disgraceful ;)
I'll try to get my hands in the video to upload it soon.
A work of art shouldn't neccesarily be frozen in time and anyway an artist who refuses explanations could be reasonably expected to allow interpretation and even perhaps variation on his or her theme. This piece, viewed through a modern eye could speak of Islamic fundamentalism or any blind faith doctrine or/and of course, about his favorite topic, the absurdity of existence.
It's nice to know that you agree with me, but I would never have known if you hadn't said so. I did as you suggested and am none the wiser. Which essay are you talking about? Don't forget that language has rules so that ideas can be exchanged with a minimum of confusion.
just one more note for you milesphenn - as a fellow Beckett lover, you must know how IRATE Beckett would get when things were not exactly right. this version of Quad would have infuriated Beckett! as fans of Beckett, yes I do think it is necessary to see this kind of butchering! :)
oh yes, well of course i know about the percussion that Beckett preferred. but i've seen quite good renditions of this that do not make use of the percussion. why am i on a high horse just because i think this is bad? i appreciate the vid post novisible - we need to see these things. but i think any beckett fan would admit that this is not at all a good take on quad! best to you both.
disgraceful! take off the sound and play it at the right speed. beckett specifically said that the only sound should be the shuffling of the actors' feet. this is a terrible rendition.
Metro... I didn't make this video. I found it some time ago, while searching for information about the play. Evidently its not what Beckett would have done, but it's an interesting representation or illustration. At the time I was looking for info about this I didn't find anything better.
you would think someone so self-righteous would at least have their facts right. Beckett specifically said each player would have a corresponding percussion sound "to sound while he enters, continue while he paces, cease when he exits."
That's quoted from the man himself in the Collected Shorter plays.
Get off your high horse, for the love of God. No I don't really like this rendition but there's no reason to be so harsh about it.
Attenzione questo video è solo un pezzo tratto da "Quadrat 1+2". Inoltre la colonna sonora non è fedele. massimopuliani@tin.it

What? Say it in English. Or Irish. Or any language other than gobbledygook. Or was that supposed to be Becketish?

I was agreeing with you. Go educate yourself. type Roland Barthes in wiki. So shup and let me agree with you.
