  • what gauge wire is used for psu

  • @TheVidMann 18AWG..normally, there may be one or two 22Gauge wires too.

  • Why are you videos so pointlessly long....

  • @g6qwerty Don't watch them if there to long for you...but out of 15,662 ppl that viewed this video you're the only one who feels that way.

  • The video was great the clock was annoying because i couldn't hear you.

    Southbound

  • @krr711 What clock are you talking about?

  • @WestCoastMods My mistake, I had an issue on my end. You guys make great videos. I am a journeyman electrician by trade and I never get tired of watching a pro at work. I learn every time I watch your videos. Thank you.

  • One thing I've learned to do when taking apart stuff, keep the digital camera handy and take pictures of things before taking them apart. Really helps a lot.

  • @ScytheNoire Isn't that the truth....lol

  • thx a lot dude nearly killed my PSU

  • This is silly, but anyone knows what's the box in which one puts and organizes all the screws and nuts in called? I am looking for one for myself on eBay, and don't know what to write in the search box ):

  • @thedingdoeatyourbaby Organizer

  • @thedingdoeatyourbaby or box bin organizing... I've found that tackle boxes are easy to find and fairly inexpensive...

  • Thanks man I was really looking for a vid on sleeving cables

  • @SexyCoCoBoy No problem bro, hope it helps

  • very nice vid!!!

  • @watterrbottle Thanks bro

  • @emtildeath Thanks bro, Yeah it can be done with everyday house hold items....however through my experience it does help to have tools designed for the task at hand. For those who may only sleeve a few cables in there life time then I would use whatever works, but if you are going to be sleeving many cables over the next few years, then it may be worth buying them..i just say them at PPC's for like $12.

  • Wow thank you for this video to it really help me out

  • @jmcneish52 No problem bro

  • whats kind of sleeving i should get can u give me a link where i can buy it online please and thank you

  • @jmcneish52 There are several places you can purchase good sleeving...for general sleeving try Performance PC's, Frozen CPU's or Crazy PC....but if you want to buy in bulk you can get it from WireCare

Know if you're looking to single sleeve your cables, the best sleeving around is from MDPC-X they are out of Germany, but will ship anywhere.

    Hope this helps

    LazyMan

  • o and with the.. usin ur fingers to push the sleeving together afteru use ur fingers... LICK UR FINGERS:P lol the saliva will cool it down faster without burning yourself;p water/saliva lol its awesome for cooling;p

  • @yeechester agreed....

  • Great Videos. Where do you purchase that brand of sleeving at?

  • @spearmintmonkey The sleeving in this vid was purchased at Fry's Electronics, but know that single braided sleeving has become the norm I would recommend buying from MDPC-X and then if you want to buy different types and in bulk I use WireCare.

    Happy Sleeving

    LazyMan :-)

  • Hi WestCoast,

Thank you for posted such a wonderful and helpful video. I watched all three parts and feel I'm able to tackle the sleeving on my new i7 build. Thanks again.

  • No problem, glad the sleeving vids will help you.

You should considering subbing my channel as I have many more DYI how to's coming up.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • Cool videos! I haven't seen a video on shrink wrapping or using a paper clip. Thanks for the demonstration!

  • Yeah, I tried to show how to do it if you don't have the Mod tool. I appreciate all your support.

    Thanks buddy

    LazyMan :-)

  • LOL.... You hella got all that stuff at Fry's right.... cause i was looking at all that stuff today.. LOL

    Nice VID!!!

  • Yes, that is correct, I used to buy all my material at Fry's. Now I buy from a online store called WireCare. Check them out when you have a chance.

    LazyMan :-)

  • I've recently bought myself a pack of those Vantec Molex Connectors? It came with a handy Molex removal tool which was a bonus. :)

    Thanks again.

    Chris from Scotland

  • Thats awesome dude, can never have enough molex tools.

  • Great tutorial LazyMan. I've just built my first gaming computer and I'm finding these videos so helpful!

I sleeved my first two fan cables perfectly using a straw and safety pin. :) I also watched another of your videos on how to remove a Molex Connector. My PCIe power cable had 2 of them attached to it. Removing them with tweezers worked perfectly. :D

  • thank u for the nice tips :D 5/5

  • Your welcome!

  • what is the length and the diameter of the stainless steel tube

  • The S.S. tube is 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2". However trying to find a way to demonstrate how easy it is with a hollow tube. Knowing that not everyone has access to S.S tube I came across the straw and thought , wow this may be the way to go.

Anyway after using the straw that I got at 7-11, I realized it works even better that the S.S. tube. It's more flexible and much lighter. Pick up a Slurpee straw from 7-11 and you will be amazed. lol

    LazyMan :-)

  • I live in Florida and there is no 7-11 around here, so that kinda suck

  • Florida, what beautiful state! I lived in Miami for a couple of years when I was in my early twenties.

Anyway there must be something very similar, you;re looking for a quick mart type store, that sell those super large soda's, like the Big Gulp, you'll find large diameter straws there.

Also I got your other PM, but haven't had time to look over your links for the components you're getting. Will ASAP

    LazyMan :-)

  • I think there some at OK store

    Thanks for help me

  • If you have a Harbor Freight around, you can get the heat gun and tubes for cheap. Also, you can pick up the extractor kit, or some other molex extraction tools from frozen CPU.

  • I have a heat gun, molex modding kit and I buy the heat shrink in bulk online. I had them at the time, just wanted to show how it could be done if someone didn't have the proper tools.

Also I don't normally shop at HF, for the obvious reasons, but next time I drive by one I will stop and take a look.

    Thanks

    LazyMan :-)

  • Yeah, I was just saying that for people interested. A Heat gun from HF will last for about 2-3 sleevings bahahhaha.

I sleeved my PSU today, it took a while but the result was priceless!

  • Thanks for the video, this will be very helpfull when I get all my stuff in a week. Thanks.

  • Thanks bro, glad this vid has helped you.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • where did you get the heat shrink at?

  • Fry's Electronics, Micro Center, Performance PC's, Frozen CPU's, Crazy PC, but the place I've been using lately is WireCare (dot) com.

I try to by in bulk now, saves me a few dollars and I always have some around, The little kit you saw in the video was purchased at Fry's, and I just keep refilling it as required from my bulk supply.

    Hope this helps

    LazyMan :-)

  • lazyman where do u usually buy the sleeving

at a harware store or at a pc store ??

    or some other store ??

  • The same place I buy my heat shrink, read the message that you replied to

  • Also, where can I buy JT&T sleeves? I live in the Bay Area as well. Thanks again for your vids. They were very helpful. Looking forward to more!

  • You can find the JT&T sleeving and the heat shrink kit at Fry's Electronics, Micro Center may also carry it. Also you can find some very similar at WireCare . com

Just so you know it's not unravel free, it just doesn't unravel as easy as standard sleeving.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • Awesome vid, where can I buy that box of assorted heat shrink?

  • Hey, is there a way to buy coloured shrink wrap? I Don't like the look of that meshed stuff and prefer the look of tightly wrapped cables.

  • Yeah, if you can't find any local at a Electronic store, try WireCare . com

You may not like the way that looks either, because when heat shrink shrinks, it show everything like a tight glove. What I'm trying to say is, if you heat shrink let say 2 wires that are twisted together the heat shrink will conform to the twisted wires and IMO doesn't look to appealing.

I dislike it so much that I untwist 2 or more wires before putting on the heat shrink. Also heat shrink makes the wires real stiff.

  • Ah, I see. Could you perhaps...wrap something like masking tape or paper around the wires then slip the heat-shrink over it so you get the nice round effect?

  • Oh sure, wrapping the wires in something may do the trick, but you still have the problem of the cables now being somewhat stiff after heat shrinking them.

I would suggest trying it on one and seing how you like it, perhaps a fan cable.

    LazyMan :-)

  • haha that made me laugh :P at the beginning when u showed your usual way and your other way alongside it :P in my head i thought heres the professional way , heres the poor mans way and i could see exactly how each thing replaced the other xD. Anyway very nice technique i might bite the bullet and spend time sleeving , shoulda done it when i built my pc -_-;;

  • Thanks bro, you should sleeve your cables, it's really not that hard.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • ah i see it did :-), your even mentionned in the vid!

  • tryed to post a video repondse tell me if it worked XD

  • video response posted

  • Very good videos you have very informational keep em coming

  • Thanks Bro!

  • i think im gonna be lazy and buy a kit XD but thanks for the info. im gonna sleeve my haf all pink

  • Yeah the sleeving tool kit does make life a little easier. Hope you post some vids on your sleeving. Looking forward to see how it turns out.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • Great vid, where did you buy the heatshrink?

  • Thanks Bro, I buy from many different suppliers. but locally I buy from Fry's Electronics or Micro Center.

    Online I buy from WirecCare(dot)com

Also Performance PC's and Frozen CPU's carry heatshrink.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • Nice, I am sleeving up the entirety of my newest build so this is has been an eye opener for sure.

  • Thanks for the comment, I glad you found this helpful.

You have some very amazing stuff on your channel.

I'm glad I stumbled onto your channel, keep up the great work!

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • you can also us a very small flat head pricision screw driver .that works great for me and the tabs need to be fluffed up with a exactoknife when you install them back or they wont stay

  • Great tip, Yeah I use my finger to pull the tabs back out.

    Thanks for the comment

    LazyMan :-)

  • just a tip just melt the end till the stick and it stops fraying thats what i do anyways :D Great vids keep em coming

  • great tip, thats what I've done for years, but once you do melt the ends it doesn't allow the sleeve to open up at the very end as easily. I was just showing that they now have sleeving available that will not fray nearly as much as standard sleeving.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • Awesome guide, will be useful as I'm gonna be sleeving a whole PSU soon.

  • You will do fine, just take your time and be sure to mark every wire or make a diagram, so you reconnect properly.

    Good Luck

    LazyMan :-)

  • Brilliant vids. Very informative and easy to follow. Subscribed !!!!!

Thanks man for all the great vids. Keep em coming.

  • Thanks Bro! Working on a couple more.

    Cheers

    LazyMan :-)

  • I could not hear a word you said, but that aside, it was a helpful video. Just one question, where did you get the tool kit to disassemble the molex and other connectors?

  • Sorry Bro, I guess your volume was up all the way? My bad, i know it was a little low.

The tools are from SunbeamTech, they are called Modding Tool Kit. here is a link

    w w w(dot)thefind(dot)com/family/info

    Cheers

    LazyMan:-)

  • Awesome video man, it's filled with TONS of good info that will come in handy for me. I appreciate the time you took to fill these cable sleeving 101 vids with as much information as you could. 5/5 for sure. ^^

  • Thanks Bro, I gad you find my vids helpful. Your appreciation and others is what keeps me doing them.

I try to get as much info out as possible, but sometimes I forget what I wanted to say or the vid starts to run longer than the 10:59 YT allows. Maybe someday they will extend that.

    Cheers

    LazyMan

  • im loving it!

  • Very helpfull. You should put annotations to make it even better.

  • Thanks for the suggestion, will take a look at that.

    Cheers

    LazyMan

  • sub:)

  • thanks

  • Where did you buy the box of heat shrink and the bags of sleeving? Thanks

  • Fry's Electronics They have all different sizes & colors that come in std. wall and double wall heat shrink, they also have heat shrink with an heat activated adhesive on the inside. As far as sleeving they have sleeving kits that come several different colors, but the non- fraying sleeving in the bags only come in blk.

  • Well the closest Fry's is like 1000 miles away. Literally. Lol. But I will just see what shipping will be. Thanks.

  • ya check Fry's online also check MurderMod they have sleeving kits.

  • great video

  • Thanks

  • 5 stars :)

  • Thanks

  • pretty awesome video

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • At 4:25 its called "fusing"

  • Thanks Bro, I always lose my train of thought when I'm filming, tongue tied and a brain farts, whata yah going to do LOL

  • hi, i am just wondering. wats the point for cable sleeving? is it just to keep everything in order?

  • When someone spends thousands on a PC build, cable sleeving just gives it that finished look. Who would want to see a bunch of different color wires running all over the place.

Not only does it keep everything nice and neat it provides for easier cable management. Most PSU manufactures are sending their units already pre-sleeved. It really boils down to personal preference. Why do ppl use braided hoses on their car engine? because it looks nice, a more pro look

Now lets not cut any corners LOL

  • Forget to mention increased air flow for cooling? XP

  • absolutely, I hope he knows that's a given.LOL but thanks for adding that.

  • Great vid! :-) -SB

  • THANKS! not everybody would respond so quickly! Looking forward to seeing more of your build.

  • Your welcome!

    LazyMan

  • Keep the great videos coming! The question is what is the ID of the stainless steel tubing you slide the sleeving over? I know that depends on sleeving, but what ID are you using in video?

  • The tubing I use is 1/4"OD, 3/8"OD and 1/2"OD all 0.035 wall But the straw is somewhere between 1/4" and 3/8" so that works sometimes when 1/4" tube is to small and the 3/8" tube is to big. The straw is nice because it's ID is large compared to it's OD thinner wall than tube. The straw is a large straw from your local 7/11 store.

    Cheers

    LazyMan@WCM

  • Great video but, what ID on tubing?

  • Are you talking about shrink tubing, that depends on the size of sleeving your using. I personally use the smallest heat shrink that will fit easily over the sleeving.

    Cheers

    LazyMan@WCM

  • wow that awesome sweet

  • Thanks Bro!

  • you my fried got yourself another subscriber

    great video

  • did you find him through the video response on mine? lol

  • yah haha i like his stuff so i subscribed

hes a cool guys he subscribed back to me too

  • no that's great he makes great video I was just wondering

  • I can tell that sleeving is from Fry's ;)

  • I love Fry's, wish I had one across the street from my house, then life would be a fairytale! lol

    Cheers

    LazyMan@WestCoastMods

  • nice sleeving ..... thx for the tip.... i personally used a needle but is the same way :d

  • Thanks bro

  • Now i know what to do when i update my PC, nice showing how to do it cheap way! 5/5

  • ya, i read a lot of comments on other channels saying what if I don't have such and such, where I live I can't get such and such, so i thought it was appropriate to show that you don't need all those over priced, must have, can't do with out tools. unless your lazy like me LOL

    LazyMan

  • I am just like you we love the lazy way it's the way of life. LOL

  • AMEN BROTHER!

  • Thanks for the excellent video, will refer back to this if i get around to a new build, really looking forward to the finished product, if i had such nice hardware it would be so difficult not to just want to assemble it. Got some good patience there :P

  • Thanks bro, It drives me crazy having everything just sitting there, but your right, having patience now will pay off in the long run.

    LazyMan

  • Nice video. Like many hobbies, it's really important to keep your tools and parts organized. I like how you promote that.

  • Thank you, I hate when I go looking for something it's not there, everything has it's place. My wife thinks I'm a little anal, oh well at least I know where my tools are. lol

  • Very good video im sure lots of people will find this very useful, i used a sharp knife to push the tabs in, a paper clip would have been safer, and i really need to be as organised as you i have stuff all over the place, what kind of tub is that a fishin tackle box?

  • Thanks Bro, the heat shrink came in the tub (Fry's Electronics) but I've seen many like that sold separately at WalMart & Target, but a tackle box just gave me an ideal. It would be nice to keep everything for sleeving in one box ie.sleeving, shrink wrap, extra pin connectors, tools ect. Thanks for the vision, I'm going to get me a fishin' tackle box and go sleeving. lol

    Thanks again for the idea

    LazyMan

  • Forgot to ask: what size sleeving did you use for the fan? Is that 1/4" ? Also, for the 24 pin power supply, the wire is 22 gauge, so I would assume that would need 1/8" sleeving? I think I'm gonna order 50' of 1/8" Techflex Flexo for the power supply.

  • Wow :O

    Excellent Technique!!!

  • Thanks Bro!

  • how long does it take for the whole case

  • if you're talking about sleeving all your cables, that depends on weather or not your PSU is already sleeved. if it's not then it may take a full day. if all you have to sleeve is the front panel cables, fan cables and misc. other cables than just a few hours.

  • Great videos! =D Thanks!

  • Thank you

  • DUDE! your the best! your now on the top of my favorites list with tjharlow, tigerdirectblog, 3Dgameman ect. keep it up

  • Wow, thanks for those kind words, That really made my morning.

    Cheers

    LazyMan

  • Well done... it's great that you show each individual step and give lots of background info for us n00bs. I saw you are gonna do a SATA sleeving demo. Check out the sata sleeving kit at murdermod(dot)com... good stuff. Gonna check out 2 and 3 after breakfast! 5/5

  • Can't breakfast wait. LOL

    Appreciate your rating.

    Thanks for the link.

I"ll take a look at the Sata kit.

  • wow nice

  • Thanks Bro

  • They also sell white sleeving at performance-pcs . com as well as a bunch of UV sensitive sleeving too.

  • Thanks, I'm so used to using blk, I really never paid attention. Will have to check it out.

  • Thanks for sharing / teaching bro...

    Great video as always!

  • Thanks

  • Great tutorial. And right on time too. I was planning on sleeving my cables on Sunday. Thanks a lot. 5 stars. :-)

  • Thanks, part 2 & 3 are on the way. Have fun sleeving on Sunday.

    LazyMan

  • @ 2:07 You know what they say; Once you go black you'll never go back. Just kidding haha.

Do you know how to sleeve the 24 pin cause I think it's a pretty hard job. Thinking about sleeving every cable white except for the S-ATA cables in my computer.

  • White sounds good, I talk about sleeving the 24 pin connector in part 3. What you can do with the sata cables is cover them with just heat shrink, I will be covering that in a future video. Where did you find white sleeving and are you using white heat shrink.

  • They are selling it on a Dutch website called HighFlow. But they are selling the white sleeving and the heat shrink seperated now. You could buy them in one kit before.

  • cool, will have to check them out.
