This is a great exercise for first step quickness, also for glide style shot put, and other things. A kid I know is making great progress in sports (varsity basketball, football, and sprinting in Sophomore year) and part of it is his single leg deads, also single leg squats. This excellent exercise is underrated by too many coaches.
