Love this to bits, he really puts his heart into it with this one and his backup singers are great they compliment him beautifully here. Anyone who doesn't like this one is a putz. MickeyL.. He's now and always be the ultimate irish vocal artist pity the fuks over here in Ireland on the stations never gave him the profile he deserved when he got it elsewhere.. makes u wonder???
Me, big Ian, Shaw, and a few others, spent our late teens and early 20's following Joe and his drifters all around the north. Never had a bad night with Joe, the best looking girls always followed Joe too, we had a BALL!!! 6 or 8 of us going home afterwards in Ian's jag or my zephyr. Great times. Joe always spoke to us, he remembered us from gig to gig. Big man, big voice, great memories.
Although this kind of music is really my cup of tea I would have to say that vocal-wise Joe Dolan is probably the greatest Irish singer or is at least up there with Luke Kelly, Phil Lynott, Enya, Frank Patterson Finbarr Wright and a few more great Irish singers.
There definately was no show like a Joe show saw him in the Collins Hall in Clonmel and after at Hearn's Hotel as my cousin Jimmy Walsh was his drummer. Joe was a true gentleman.

Joe Dolan is a legend I am a Mullingar man I met and drank in Joe's company many times a very decent and sound skin was joe he will always be Mullingars favourate son and Eire's first famous world wide selling artist may the good lord be good to ya Joe
I was 16 and at boarding school in Ireland. Someone had a dare on who would go meet Joe Dolan. They knew the hotel he was staying at and if we were caught (my friend and I) we would be expelled. Joe Dolna and the entire band were there-We told him of the dare and needing an autograph as proof. He brought us into a dining room to meet his band and have dessert with them. They wrote on our arms and we floated back to school. Thanks Joe RIP

Heartbreaking song...but love it. I always shed a tear or two for joe when I hear this song....I loved you and I will never forget the good nights in Clarmorris and Cong Co. Mayo....You always brought in the good talent....Rest in peace joe, love you and always will.
I first saw Joe in 1966 at a recording for radio in O'Connell Street,Dublin. Over the years @ dances & concerts I had the pleasure to listen & enjoy his music. One might go to the show not in the best of form but always came away on a high. Why the f--- did you go and leave us Joe! Nobody but nobody comes within shooting distance of a Joe Show.

jesus you must live in a bleeding cave if you thought joe was good looking? how many men in your town 2? he only had one eyelash that went across the top of his eyes and a fecking huge conker nose,,,
saw Joe many times in concerts and in the dance halls, hated to hear this song as one knew the show was coming to a end, when i wanted it to go on and on, sadly missed Joe, great song x x x
joe was the best to come out of ireland. people should keep their small minded opinions to themselves. its amazing how talent can cause so much jealousy.its the voice that matters.r.i.p. joe
I couldn't give 2 fucks if Joe was gay or not.He was an absolutely brilliant entertainer. His (or anyones sexuality) should not have any bearing on his talent and personality.RIP Joe.A true Irish Legend up there with Phillip Lynott, Ronnie Drew, Luke Kelly and many many other fallen heroes.
was in joes relations house 2nite, we watched one of his dvd's, it was so sad and still hard 2 belive he's gone from us. when i was a child i met joe in his pub in mullingar, my mam(R.I.P)said 2 me 2 ask joe 2 sing my favourite song,"its you its you its you" i thought it was "its stew its stew its stew" joe laughed and he sang a few lines for me i think i was around 6 or 7, a great memory all the same and i admit i shed a tear 2nite watching him and im a 29 year old man. R.I.P JOE
this is one of my favourites, i was fortunate to see joe at one of his shows in N Ireland. theres no show like a joe show.....he will be sadly missed. does anyone have the song Let me In ????

I have browsed over the comments and was disgusted to read idle gossip on his private life. Joe was an Ambassador to Mullingar and a true legend elsewhere. He will live on in his music, and in our hearts.Let him rest in peace you scumbags.
irelands greatest loss a manedith passion that you could feel enjoy the saddest part for me i discovered this awsome giant when it to late i am sorry for all his fans on there lossb of this great man
Fantastic performer. Gave me lots of great nights with friends and family. I'm 34 now and saw Joe first when I was 12 yrs old. Blown away by the voice and live performance. I have seen performers from all over the world and Joe Dolan still ranks as the best live show I have seen .
I was so sad hearing of his death.I loved "Teresa" and "Make me an Island" since I was a boy. I´ve been to his grave near Mullingar in March and I told him everything I wanted to tell him during his life. He was a great voice and I thank him for a lot of very emotional moments in my life. "Goodbye Venice" is one of his best songs.
No one ever discussed if he was gay or not during his life. Why now? He was a great guy. Don´t throw any dirt on him. Bye Joe, you´re sadly missed.
Wheather he was gay, straight, catholic, muslim or jew he was the best singer and enterainer ever to come out of Ireland. Boyzone or westlife could never even come close to him.....RIP Joe......The Westmeath Batchler......
brilliant singer, looked at all of the videos now and this one is just awesome. fantastic voice and great entertainer. midnight lover is also very good.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Grow up, not rumour based, hard fact, accept it. Former showband colleagues are already acknowledging his homosexuality which is nothing to be ashamed of and need not be hidden.
It really does not matter about Joe's sexuality, that was his private life, I think we should remember him for his music and forget trying to prove the point was he gay or not.
Love this to bits, he really puts his heart into it with this one and his backup singers are great they compliment him beautifully here. Anyone who doesn't like this one is a putz. yiwufanggu 1 year ago
@yiwufanggu Yup, at the time everybody was told that Venice would sink beneath
the waves cos of rising sea levels. and would be gone in 10 years!!
Hence "die"
When I wrote those words I truly believed that, as did Joe and Roberto the music writer.

Nobody but nobody comes within shooting distance of a Joe Show.

joe was the best to come out of ireland. people should keep their small minded opinions to themselves. its amazing how talent can cause so much jealousy.its the voice that matters.r.i.p.

I have browsed over the comments and was disgusted to read idle gossip on his private life. Joe was an Ambassador to Mullingar and a true legend elsewhere. He will live on in his music, and in our hearts.Let him rest in peace you scumbags.
"Joe you were inspirational to all of us" RIP.

Fantastic performer. Gave me lots of great nights with friends and family. I'm 34 now and saw Joe first when I was 12 yrs old. Blown away by the voice and live performance. I have seen performers from all over the world and Joe Dolan still ranks as the best live show I have seen .
JoeDolan22 3 years ago 5
I was so sad hearing of his death.I loved "Teresa" and "Make me an Island" since I was a boy. I´ve been to his grave near Mullingar in March and I told him everything I wanted to tell him during his life. He was a great voice and I thank him for a lot of very emotional moments in my life. "Goodbye Venice" is one of his best songs.
No one ever discussed if he was gay or not during his life. Why now? He was a great guy. Don´t throw any dirt on him. Bye Joe, you´re sadly missed.
oldirishpaddy 3 years ago 9
Wheather he was gay, straight, catholic, muslim or jew he was the best singer and enterainer ever to come out of Ireland. Boyzone or westlife could never even come close to him.....RIP Joe......The Westmeath Batchler......

Grow up, not rumour based, hard fact, accept it. Former showband colleagues are already acknowledging his homosexuality which is nothing to be ashamed of and need not be hidden.
KNOCKLONG 3 years ago
It really does not matter about Joe's sexuality, that was his private life, I think we should remember him for his music and forget trying to prove the point was he gay or not.
