Actually, (in my opinion) there are two interpretations of the Song of Songs. One is literal, a romantic relationship between Solomon and a young woman; the other is metaphorical, where Jesus is the young man and we (the church) are the young woman and the Song is the expression of love between the two.

Song of Songs certainly has come to be a symbolic text of Christ and the church... BUT it was originally erotic poetry about very intimate sexual relations between a man and a woman. I have a relationship with Jesus, but it's not a sexual one.

Well I don't know about you, but I wasn't there when the author of Songs wrote it, so I can only give my interpretation. I think the Holy Spirit did some inspiring and/or prophesying and the sexual language was merely a way to convey the beauty of the one to the other. And a loving relationship between the opposite sex is not necessarily sexual, especially when Jesus is involved-it's merely a way to dumb down the feeling of joy when we go home; sex was the closest comparison at the time.
