  • you now where i can play this game?

  • @cafrabr you can buy the game on amazon, and look for local players there is a website called nearbygamers that helps people link up with local groups. it's still growing. or just go to your local comicbook store / game store

  • This is a very nice video, and you should feel good that you made it.

And, to follow the crowd, I personally don't like the new Mage game. It doesn't seem as unique, or , frankly, as interesting as the original.

That said, I enjoy the new Changeling, the new Werewolf, and I dabble in the new Vampire. I'm still disappointed by the loss of the Tremere, and a number of the changes, but it can be a fun game.

  • Mastigos Mystagogs for the win.

  • Since when are the Free Council aloud to put recruitment videos on youtube? lol i love this game, Obrimos Arrow's FTW

  • Those spells are examples of the kinds of things you can do. You're still able to use the free form Ars Magica light magic system.

  • To help with some evident confusion, the D&D reference was to the fact that Mages now have a set list of spells they use instead of a free-form game mechanic dealing with how they want/need reality to work for them.

  • I really like this and the Vampire video. I was wondering if you had any access to a Werewolf one like it. I've been looking, but can't seem to find anything on the rpg, just on the PC game.

  • @nateslovebug i wish there was a werewolf one.. gawd how i wish...

  • Did you ever wonder how much these books make so much sense for something that presents itself as fiction? O.o

  • well since mages are humans... i thought of making a long campaign wich will end turning them into vampires with magic powers... aknowledged by themselfs, no lame rituals like the tremere.... dynamic magic plus vampire powers vs vampires themselfs, werewolfs, and introducing cthulhu itself in the deeper dimensions of the umbra.

obviously the players geting the penalties from needing blood and the paradox...

what ya ppl think bout this if u were to play it?

  • @mikipowah According to the vampire book, no recorded Mages or Werewolves have ever been embraced. besides, Vampires have their own sets of mages, such as the Circle of the Crone who use Cruac spells, or the Lancea Sanctum who use Theban Sorcery. Certain bloodlines may also invent their own magical Disciplines.

  • @Nyrufa yeah...."according to the vampire book, no recorded mages or werewolves have EVER been embraced" by the rulebook, if a vampire embraces a mage, it's avatar just rottens therefor it cant do magic.... but the point of what i was just saying is that since i am the master i can make my own rules, like everyone, i was just asking for ur point of view as player to become a literal "mage+vampire" any clan, any tradition.

anyways, thanks for the reply. i hope i have explained myself well.

  • mind space is the best :) lol this is a awesome game that a friend just showed me like 2 week ago and love this game

  • haaaaa, that's a very unWise mage talking at 2:45.

Also, Magneto(etc): I think a lot of people would; that's what makes it such a powerful setting.

  • I would give anything for an awakening.

    Preferably Mastigos or Obrimos.

  • @Magnetohydrodynamics you can say "I would DO anything for an awakening" this is a little awakening itself.

  • Ok, first: The Vampires in NWoD are essentially on the same power level..

Second, Both SUCK in NWoD. If any Vamp were to encounter a Geist or a Changeling-they'd be FUCKED.

Third, EVERYTHING in NWoD(and OWoD for that matter) sucks in comparison to a Mage. When you're able to manipulate reality you tend to be able to have the upper hand. Oh, and a vamp wouldn't even last a minute pitted against a Mage. Mages can CREATE sunlight with ONE SPELL. Yeah, Vamps are screwed..

  • @jkhaleel For one, Mages are mortal humans, vampires are not and can regenerate. Mages, I assume, need time to set up their spells, where as a Vampire can march across the room in that time.

Vampires also have a variety of powers that allow them to lessen the effects of sunlight, although remaining conscious during it can be a problem, its not exactly "Bam, ash!" every time they get caught in it.

  • couldn't agree more Mr Dark Lock

  • "With a great power comes a great responsability" - Mage with Wisdom 10.

"There is no good or evil, only power, and those too weak to seek it." - Mage with Wisdom 3.

"With a great power comes a great insanity" - Mage with Wisdom 0.

  • Mechanically a Vampire will rape the shit out of a Werewolf in nWoD. Sux.

    Twilight vs Furries.

    Whoever wins, it's gay.

  • "You can't turn away now. Ignorance won't protect you from what abides in the darkness."

That's a great quote. Cool presentation.

  • Is it just me or is every path seemingly related to another supernatural?

    acanthus=changelings

    obrimos=prometheans

    thyrsus=werewolves

and either mastigos or moros = Vampires

maybe im overthinking it but it could have to do with string theory; the mages could have used psionic powers to open a wormhole (aka silver ladder) to alternate universes letting in these THINGS into our mortal world.

    so its scifi not fantasy

    Im nulls mysteris BTW.

  • Mage seems to be intresting!

  • I own the core book, Vampire: Requiem, and Werewolf: Forsaken. I'm not sure if I should get Mage, I'm having trouble enough memorizing the three books I already have.

Can somebody tell me if Requiem and Forsaken are the latest versions of the game? Every web site I go to that's dedicated to the game takes place in Werewolf Apocalypse and Vampire Masquerade.

  • The Latest incarnations of the WoD are Vampire: The Requiem, Werewolf: The Forsaken, Mage: The Awakening, Promethean: The Created, Changeling: The Lost and Hunter: The Vigil

  • Ah thank you! That means I don't need to spend years searching for other books and that I got the right ones!

I guess all the sites and RP's I've seen just plain hate the new version because they keep playing the older, original versions. A pain in the ass to find a game going.

  • And Geist: The Sin-Eaters

  • Mage the Ascension is my favorite RPG game. The magick system, the setting, all is wonderful, it is a true work of art. But I like Mage the Awakening to,and I try not to compare them, I do not see the point of that. They are two different games, totally different and they are good on different things, they do not really compare well. Both are great games.

  • I never played Ascension. I don't care how the games compare. I like Mage and I think it's a good system. Anyone who can't appreciate a game for exactly what it is is exactly the kind of unimaginative assholes that RPGs don't need playing them.

  • Please, WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE MUSIC of this video? I really, REALLY want to know where to find it, since the first time I saw this video, years ago. Anyone, please help? THANKS!

  • Probibly a Made for Purpose peice

  • mage the awakening is the first wod game i bought, and i really like it

  • I recently bought Mage the awakening and I think it looks really cool. I really like that the mages can use their magic almost any way they want as long as they're strong enough.

  • Oh boo hoo, all you people crying about how it's just like D&D, well I personally like it this way. I was disappointed with ascension to hear that they don't actually wield magic like a "mage" should but instead were just super geniuses. That sounded retarded, but this new version brings about my interest. Hope I can find the book!

  • The Traditions can use Magic. It's just bad when they do

  • I like Mage the Awakening although I never played the Ascension

  • The problem with the old mage is the endless misconceptions people have in regards to the spheres. This caused a lot of arguments and power gamers. OWODmage is my favorite but I feel that the ST should be very experienced and set up some house rules before attempting it. I have a system that allows for the traditionsnto be different while keeping the freeform aspect to it.

  • Personally, the new world just seems like a watered down, weakened version of its original self. Vampire has had at least half of their clans removed/changed. Werewolves now seem to be just mindless killers. I took one look at Mage and saw the word Mana, and never looked back. It just seems too much like D&D to me and my friends, and we decided that we will either play D&D or WW not both in one bastardized game.

  • while i agree, i do think that the new mage has more of a purpose. it's not as free form or chaotic as the old one was. i hope that makes sense.

  • At least they dumped the shitty metaplot.

  • Did they???

  • Dun dun duuuun!.

  • @jonusmanson that's really funny, associating the word mana with D&D, which has never used mana as a core mechanic for spellcasters

  • I hate this New World of Darkness. Atlântida is an old chose for a mage adventure... they cannot chose another one like old magic kingdons or magic secret lands????

    I HATE IT.

  • Why make a tire that turns edgy?

Apart from that, Atlantis is not only a "magic secret land", but also an "old magic kingdom". So technically, they did indeed choose these two options. Also, it's just the common point of view. No one hits you with a stick if you come up with something else.

  • It's a shame that they got rid of the old World of Darkness, but I enjoy this new system just the same. I'll bet the people who like this are looking forward to Changeling: The Lost that's coming out later this year.

  • seriously. the new bloodlines system is nothing but a excuse for players who wants a special discipline to be able to act like a manic, evil psyco freak without having to be tzimisce. White Wolf destroyed their own world. they destroyed the best damn system ever made. Turned it into a pt 7 DnD wannabe money machine. tsk... im glad i managed to get a hold of all the old material before they stopped the production.

  • i understand how some people could hate the new system, i would definatley chose the old over the new but i think the old sytem had pretty much run it's course, too much grand scheme of things(every race was somehow shaping the whole world for thousnads of years) also the basic assumption that christianity was the one true religion didn't mesh well with the other world of darkness like japan ect...

  • Hengeyokai and Kindred of the East were heavily underrated, and most people I knew that played Akashic Brotherhood or Euthanatos were either Warring Fist or Knights of Radmanthys. Chop sockey or mighty assassin.

    What a waste.

  • yeah i agree

  • not only that but werewolf suddently became a game only concerned with violence. not the protection of gaia or understanding the world. Just killing, killing, running, killing. Its the worst thing to ever happen in any roleplaying game ever. the renewal of WOD. not only that nooo. vampires went down the drain as well. the clans removed, some replaced and now everything is about bloodlines.

  • Did you even read the Werewolf Book? Yes they are the ultimate killing machines now and have a worse temper, they do still have a purpose, and that is to keep the spirit world from crossing the guantlet and keeping both worlds in order. For the vampire remark, the game is only as much about Bloodlines as your storyteller allows it to be.

With the exception of the combat system in the old World of Darnkess, I like both systems for the three core games.

  • Thats true the weres are overpowered and vamps are underpowered

kinda funny cause when you read the actual mythology and folklore it the other way around: the wolves only just shift and the vamps are GODS basiclly: you only beat them by outsmarting them in the classcal lit. Did they overcomponsate or are they still on a misguided enviromental bent?

both are stupid ideas for stupid reasons.

If you play a crossover you should either underpower the wolves or overpower the vamps to even things up

  • In nWoD, Werewolves are actually on par with Vampires.

  • In Classical lit, the only way to kill a vamp is to kill them while they sleep!

in it they have Telekinesis, Pyrokinesis (the ability to generate and control fire) Electrokinesis (the ability to generate and control electricity) power over shadows, invisibility, and flight, as well as mind affecting abilities

  • ... So because vampires are very powerful in some of the classical lit. works they have to be as powerful as gods in all sorts of media forever? Sorry but I don't buy that=P Don't get me wrong, if you like to play it that way, be my guest=) But personally I like the vampires that exists in nWOD and don't feel that they need to be buffed up. They have pretty much all of the powers mentioned in the old stories, but not all the powers at once.

  • Some would say werewolves eat vampires for breakfast :P

  • @Paradoxical003 Sorry, but by old mythology do you mean Dracula? Because in the old folklore vamps are little different from the modern Zombie, except they drink blood instead of eating flesh. They didn't become superpowered, beyond some minor shapeshifting ability in some ghost stories, until Stoker's Dracula. Werebeasts and Vampires were very similar in power levels in all of human folklore. Now, sorcerers have always been above both and have been able to control both.

  • @Lupos1987 idk, ive always pictured vampires as old gods, who granted their knowledge, power, and predatory nature to a few humans, or i picture blood mages.

but that's just me, i like my vamps to be capable of all things, to have unlimited potential, but to be very weak at the start. its just personal preference.

  • @Thrysus Considering that the Pure are right........what does that say about their "purpose"?

  • Im into old school WOD. I REALLY HATE THE NEW SYSTEM... ah that felt good. i know people are entitled to their oppinions but every new thing about their systems suck. mage do not violate reality anymore, bending it to their will... noooo they cast spells.. tsk.

  • Yea, I miss the good old days. Been so long since I played, but I too took a look at the new system...I like the old and have copies of the good stuff...well my malk clanbook is too new really. I started with vampire, but like mage and werewolf the best.

  • Holy crap! Is THAT how you pronounce Mastigos? My friends and I've always pronounced it as "mast ee johs" ...I kind of like this pronunciation better.

  • I totaly love this game. GET IT! The white wolf did a great job with the new WoD and i think that this should defently be played.
