@Theluiscalderon86, you've got it backwards. SAM 26000 is at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (Wright-Patterson Air Force Base). SAM 27000 is located at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
@adelgado75, SAM 26000 was in service from 1962 to 1998 (serving Kennedy to Clinton), so whether he's re-elected or not, he will not be flying in this classic.
INFO: For those interested, there are a LOT of YouTube videos of this plane preserved in the "Air Force Two" scheme (as shown in the video here) at the USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. But, I see that like that SAM 27000 at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, CA, the plane above, SAM 26000, has finally been beautifully repainted back into the full-blown AIR FORCE ONE Scheme, COMPLETE with Presidential Seals on the flanks!!! I should have posted a link-interesting to compare.
"BUR had a NASA 747 here years ago when they were equipping it to carry the Space Shuttle as well as visits by DC-10's, L-1011's, C-141, C-17, and many C-5 Galaxy's back when the the F-117's were being made."
Gee, about the largest aircraft we would see arriving and departing from BUR these days are the A320 which are operated by FedEx and UPS.
But I just have to wonder why a 707 was used instead of the 747 if the runway at Bob Hope Airport can indeed accomodate a 747.
2600 was the plane that Vice-President Johnson was sworn in as president on by Federal Judge Sarah T. Hughes in Dallas, and carried the body of President Kennedy back to D.C. Thank you for posting this video it is a stunning bird.
@Drpepperman1885 thanks so much! I believe that 26000 was primarily used as Air Force One up until a certain point (possibly the Reagan era) and then 27000 became primary, making 26000 a backup and a VIP transport aircraft. Also as @Redeagle52000 points out, the 747's (VC-25A's) were introduced in 1990, during the Presidency of Bush Sr. This video was taken four years after the VC-25A's were made the primary aircraft, this may have been the last time that 26000 served as Air Force One.
@RyanBomar I lived in Burbank during this time, on Clybourn Ave just south of Magnolia Blvd. Me and some friends were outside that evening on our driveway,, when all of a sudden this big Boeing 707 comes screaming overhead, having just taken off from Burbank airport. We new it was Air Force One carrying Bill Clinton back to Washington, as he was there checking out the damage from the Northridge earthquake. I remember the sounds of those powerful engines.
@Drpepperman1885 By this time, SAM 26000 and 27000 were in the "Air Force Two" scheme, or, technically, the USAF "89th Airlift Scheme," like the SAM 970, 971, 972, 973, 974, and the DC-9s (C-9Cs), and today's 4 B757-200Bs & B737-7CPng "Clipper" Boeing Business Jets. Though, as we see, still available for use as Air Force One. Clinton used both 26000 and 27000. 27000 was used as AF1 for the last time by George W. Bush in late August, 2001, just prior to it's retirement.
@Redeagle52000 I dont remember a "SAM 973 or 974" in the 89th SAM fleet. Which type was it? I do remember 970, 971,&972 because my dad was an instructor pilot on them in the 89th for 8 years.
@Redeagle52000 973 and 874, unlike 970--972, were both B707-300Bs (like SAM 26000 and SAM 27000), and weren't put into service until the mid-to-late 1980s. They were also both used, unlike any of the other aircraft purchased by the 89th AW. Can't recall if it was the 973 or 974 that became the "ultimate Air Force Two" replacing 970 for that once it was finished up, due to more advanced comms and it's llarger capacity & range...I think there's info on one of these posted on the Reagan AF1 site?
Now this is GREAT historic footage here!!! You could sell the "rough cut" of that like hotcakes, you know??? The "JFK Air Force One," the plane Nixon flew to China aboard, a "REAL" screaming, smoking jet...BROADCAST QUALITY...I was despairing of ever seeing footage, let alone this quality, of the VC-137C or VC-137B in service as Air Force One or Air Force Two. Thanks so much for posting this!!!
@mistaphill, BUR had a NASA 747 here years ago when they were equipping it to carry the Space Shuttle as well as visits by DC-10's, L-1011's, C-141, C-17, and many C-5 Galaxy's back when the the F-117's were being made.
Wow. I guess they could utulize the short runways without a full payload or fuel.. and I know the runways were never longer than they are now, except runway 8 was another 200 feet longer without the arresting gear at the end.. I remember flying in there in the old 727s back in the day and it was always an exciting experience
@mistaphill Actually, the VC-25As (747s) used for Air Force One can take off/land on shorter runways than the 707s could--this would have been an exciting full reverse thrust/full military power takeoff situation. I suspect SAM 26000 was being used due to maintenace work on the 747s, although Pres Clinton seemed to like using SAM 26000 & 27000. This is the one now at the USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB, with 27000 at the Reagan Library. So far, the only color w/sound vid of one on YouTube!
A beautiful aircraft! I saw her (or her twin) take off from Manchester NH in 1994 when Bill Clinton came to visit. I was impressed at the sight!
Probably these aircraft were/are maintained as "better than new"!

This is SAM 26000 this is the plane that now sits on the Reagan Presidential Library in California. It was used from Kennedy to G.W. Bush.

@RyanBomar Haha thnx, so the plane shown in this video is the one that took president Kennedy to Dallas right?

President Obama will not be flown on one of these when he leaves office in 2012. Instead it will be a smaller jet plane.
