@AltairKamahl I am neither. I was medically seperated from the U.S military on the count of two knee surgeries I had back in highschool and they said I wasn't physically fit so they coded me out with an RE 4 which mean I can never join unless drafted.
@T8rTot23 same dude. torn between this or college but i cant afford school at this point so i may just work out and train really hard until next year then head over to france around this time.
@T8rTot23: well if you know a bit of french it will help. but they teach you that too. they operate on a buddy sistem after basic training. once you start to specialize in something they pair you with someone who can either speak your mother language or a language that you both know. they don-t care what your background is, but its good to have that piece of paper from college if you decide to go civi one day. no you don-t need any schooling, as long as your not a murderer or a drugy.
Fuck I've seen guys like this on pretty much every training course I've been on (Infantry, CA). Often it's their heads playing tricks on them. @DeciBoibel ya i do not think they will shut the FFL down, they are one of the best and cheapest forces on the planet, these guys get paid 1000 euros a month they maintain their entire base, cut grass, shovel snow, on top of that they are barely fed, thats why they are all so thin, on top of that the french government has a expendable troop force where soldiers can die and they will not get flack from their own public.. i hope to join when fit enough to apply, was held back for the longest time.
@Baseshocks paid 1000 euros like all the other soldier in french army! They make T.I.G. too.But I'm agree with you When then die no one speak about them, and false identity is temporary. the french media should speak more of them, but politics hold media so... repsez en paix légionnaires!

They are not fat because they train hard and eat very little, maybe read a few books about the lives and experiences of a few Legionaries then compare it, just look at them they are not just thin they are stick thin, every other military even navy seals has bulk guys.
@LetsGrowItUp They are expendable... why because the french do not have to turn on the news and see a French person who died in a foreign nation. Just look at the history of where the Legion have operated and still operate and it will show you.

@alesanarocksmexico The Mexican army train in the arctic, polar and alpine conditions as well. They'd be a pretty terrible army if they could only operate in a desert..
@harrychown1989 im not refering to the mexican army i dont care about them i want to join the legion
and was that sarcasm ?????? enter my channel and check the recent two videos i uploaded , its the mexican army TRaining in the desert I DOUGHT we train in the artic
@slickmoves1977 it's not because the camera didn't show it, that mean they don't train? don't be stupid they have the hardest training in the french army + they're not even legionaires yet ..
The instructors are too soft, nice and encouraging to recruits it seems. They were tougher when they were first being selected for candidacy. I hope for the legion's sake that there's a lot more that's not shown in this video.
@Cha90Z dude you have no idea how tough they are on you, they talk like gentlemen, they have self respect and keep composed at all time, but step outta line and they come down on you like a ton of bricks, they are there to teach recruits, shoutin their heads off doesnt make him learn any quicker, they tell u from the begining that ur all in it 2gether so its up to everyone to do their bit.they wouldnt think twice of punchin you if you are a complete eejit or makin u stand in the snow all nite.
The french foreign legion is much harder than any other military outfit in the world, the usmc have to care about there soldiers since the soldiers are 'American' but the legion doesnt have to care for every 300 applicants they can run the shit outta they might get 20-50 men they actually want and they are completely fine with it since all the applicants are 'foreigners'
@ciano537 Be careful though, never call a Marines Soldiers in front of a Marine they hate that (at least in the USA :P). Marines = Naval Infantry, Soldiers = "Ground-Pounders" ;P
But also don't mention the fact that Marines are part of the Navy, they reallllly hate that xD
I'd also say the training is different because of the different role. USMC is a conventional force, where as I'd say FFL is more of (and basically is) a Commando force.
@SergioBizzle To you it is, btw, I don't see FFL in Iraq, afghan, or anywhere else in the world doing thier job. The Di's aren't even pressuring them! I don't see much stress compared to SEAL Team 6 training or Force Recoc.
@SergioBizzle No, I don't actually. I would know if they actually made a name for themselves and actually would do shit. I don't think there's anyone who doesn't know who the Marines are, and that's obvious why. I respect any fighting force even the FFL. It's just that USMC is the best. Im not going to argue anymore though. But you should watch SEAL training or force recon.
@AudioAngerCinema well all i can say is that people fromo USMC have gone to FFL and said that it's the hardest thing they've ever done, personally i think u being a bit too partriotic but hey i'm not gonna argue anymore either, we just agreed to dissagree ;P
Dude, USMC is not the "best" even as a conventional fighting force. You should check out some of the Airborne units: 101st, 82nd, and 173rd all have a pretty glorified combat history. You should also check out Ranger School, I've heard of SEALs and Recon Marines who said that it was tough. But besides that, it's not the military that makes a person tough, anybody can be tough and give 200%. It's all up to the person. Remember: the uniform doesn't make the man, the man makes the uniform.
@Spyker2041 SOMTIMES i dont know the legion they have a pet at the base , training etc maybe they picked it up theres no law , rule they cant have a puppy xD
@Dogmeat1950 yust couse im mexican i cant say usmc is crap ? my dad is a mexican navy officer he has trained with seals , french special forces and has trained many south american army and navy infantrymen
again your dad was in the usn i respect more the us navy than the us marines
@Dogmeat1950 never liked the marines , they came to train with mexican marines , and they did not show them anything they did not know when my dad went with navy seals he was amazed of what he learned
@Peterr86 have you ever been frostbit, i have been, your hands ake all around, you have no feeling in your hands, the only way you can tell that someone is touching them is the pain.... the closest thing i can compare the pain too is putting your hand in a pot of boiling water. i had a mild case and it killed me, i also lost feeling in one of my fingers on right hand. this is no joke, this guys frost bite is prob far worse then what my hands were like. so don't talk if you don't know.
Yes, I have had Frostbite on my toes, and frostnip on my hands. Frostbite is fucking brutal, but this guy is being a pussy about it, and it really looks mild (probably frostnip)
I find it hilarious how some of these idiots don't speak a word of French and when the corporal asks a question, they're like: "Derp..."
I know it isn't mandatory to know French before you join, but they should at least have a test to see if you understand enough French to get by in the first few weeks.
"David! Prenez Jameson pour le medic maintenant, s'il vous plait."
@MadamKouassi The official test is know the creed in french. Then during boot camp they'll point at your food and if you can't speak it in french and if you can't they'll eat it. So yes, a very basic understanding is needed but learning the language fluently would take months. That's not an option, they're a military not a college.
@taberr5 I haven't read that before. Interesting. What's also kind of funny is how they're trying to make it sound like it isn't a mercenary organization.
@MadamKouassi They're the definition of mercenary, but if you have to sign a 5 year contract to join and they have dress uniforms then I wouldn't call them mercenary's. The traditional mercenary still has it's place in Africa and Asia but that's about it. Most country's don't trust them. Just look at Blackwater, half the country thinks they're trying to retake the holy lands. They're not even real mercenarys.
@taberr5 That was my first impression. Like you said, taking the words out of my mouth, with the uniforms, traditions and strong team attitude, they aren't typical mercenaries. In fact, mercenaries work for usually higher sums of money than normal army forces. The Legion forces earn about the same, I'd think, as regular French soldiers.
And I know what you mean... I have given some thought you joining the Legion, but never Blackwater.
@MadamKouassi Don't hate on Black Water. They were a response to the decrease in military number through the end of the cold war. A lot of people got kicked out of the military who wanted to continue operating. Everyone thinks Iraq is over, but in reality PMCs replaced the military. Most of them are guys who were in the invasion.
@taberr5 There's sense sending in PMCs first. The French do it. That's why they have the Legion. They send in the Legion first when someone goes down because then if they get killed, it's only foreigners, not French soldiers. You can avoid a whole lot of bad publicity by using mercenaries instead of your own troops. I'm sure nearly every major super power employs mercenaries, even today. In global hotspots, it's far easier and less trouble to send in a few mercs and avoid all the other troubles.
@MadamKouassi So the Legion is used as shock troops. That makes sense to me now. I didn't know that before. You were thinking about joining? Do you have any prior military experience?
@taberr5 Kind of, yes. They were sent in during the Rwandan crisis to extract French expats when the country started going bad and the UN pulled out some of their forces.
I was considering joining, yes. I'd thought about it before, forgotten and then I started thinking about joining again, but maybe in the future. I'm not sure.
No, I have no prior military experience. I'm only 16. And yourself? Marines or army, perhaps?
@MadamKouassi Yea, USMC Infantry, I'm 23. I didn't really find what I was looking for so I'm considering some options. I'm thinking about volunteering in Burma to try to improve my resume. Not sure thou.
@taberr5 I'm planning on Joining the USMC and going Infantry, I come from a military family, but was wonder what you didn't find in the USMC cause.I'm sure you found action/adventure. but...ya i don't know what you didn't get out of the Corps if you don't want to share I understand
@Dogmeat1950 Leadership is crap. I heard that it just went to crap recently though so you're family probably has nothing bad to say about it. It's very unorganized and there are allot of restrictions. I offered to extend(the only one from my class) for the next deployment but was denied. I spent the last 6 months in the USMC babysitting boot POGs. That's like slapping me in the face. FYI I was infantry I have 8 ribbons and I'm a combat vet just so you know I wasn't a POG. For starters.
@taberr5 Na, man mad Respect for you, I grew up on military bases my father retired after 33 years Navy and USCG. in the Navy he was Naval Special Operation, Hal3det5 SeaWolves, he did 4 tours in Vietnam. after the war they got rid of his unit so he got out of the Navy, which upset him. 4 years later he joined the USCG. then Retired .
@Dogmeat1950 If you're in good shape I would recommend joining the Army Rangers. They are pretty cool and high tech. If I could go back I would have done it.
when body parts are frozen you should NEVER pour hot water, that could fracture your bones, i learned that the hard way in Sweden, never hot water it just makes thing allot worst
Hot water make the veins open up but since the blood is cold you will get a batch of cold blood entering you corp blood stream and when that cold blood reach the hart or brain you can go in to chock. So the rule is if you freeze slowly you warm up slowly if you freeze fast you warm up fast. Millitary in Sweden treats hypothermia of limbs with newspaper so that they warm up slowly.
even if they cut your fingers with a shovel you dont act and cry like this.....such a pussy...look at the russians soldiers on liveleak.com when chechens beheading them ,they dont cry or react like this ...and you are pretending you are a "tough guy","a legionnairre" hahahaha...
@santiherrera1535 They do that in GSG=9 aswell. Is that the test where they give you a chicken (or duck), tell you to spend a lot of time with it, give it a name, and then kill it?
Does anyone know if bad vision will disqualify me from joining the French Foreign Legion? I have perfect 20/20 vision corrected and it has never been a big issue but I am worried I won't be accepted. Any feedback?
Bad vision will disqualify you, but has to be pretty bad. When I was at Fort de Nogent a guy had a one good eye but the other he missed about half. He passed the eye test but from the comments from the fellow giving him the test I think he just made it. You will not be allowed to be tested w/ glasses.
sounds and looks like the guy has 'ice climbers hands' the pain comes when the blood starts to rush back into them when yore reheating them not while there getting colder. iv seen men through up in pain from it, its not nice

slickmoves1977 6 months ago
@slickmoves1977 it's not because the camera didn't show it, that mean they don't train? don't be stupid they have the hardest training in the french army + they're not even legionaires yet ..

YoungTeufelhunden 7 months ago
The instructors are too soft, nice and encouraging to recruits it seems. They were tougher when they were first being selected for candidacy. I hope for the legion's sake that there's a lot more that's not shown in this video.
Cha90Z 7 months ago
@Cha90Z dude you have no idea how tough they are on you, they talk like gentlemen, they have self respect and keep composed at all time, but step outta line and they come down on you like a ton of bricks, they are there to teach recruits, shoutin their heads off doesnt make him learn any quicker, they tell u from the begining that ur all in it 2gether so its up to everyone to do their bit.they wouldnt think twice of punchin you if you are a complete eejit or makin u stand in the snow all nite.
DONNIrish 7 months ago
The french foreign legion is much harder than any other military outfit in the world, the usmc have to care about there soldiers since the soldiers are 'American' but the legion doesnt have to care for every 300 applicants they can run the shit outta they might get 20-50 men they actually want and they are completely fine with it since all the applicants are 'foreigners'
ciano537 7 months ago
@ciano537 Be careful though, never call a Marines Soldiers in front of a Marine they hate that (at least in the USA :P). Marines = Naval Infantry, Soldiers = "Ground-Pounders" ;P
But also don't mention the fact that Marines are part of the Navy, they reallllly hate that xD
I'd also say the training is different because of the different role. USMC is a conventional force, where as I'd say FFL is more of (and basically is) a Commando force.
YoungTeufelhunden 7 months ago
@YoungTeufelhunden
Sorry dude but the FFL is quite similar to USMC not a SF but on elite army inside the army
of course we don't have our own aviation or artillery and transmission but combat
infantry, cav, pionniers,paratroopers,
When they mention there armymates, they say "regulars" which is not really friendly.....
French army have also his own marine corps which is called " troupes de marine" with black berets
they called there légion mates ...Romans.....

@AudioAngerCinema not harder than FFL
SergioBizzle 7 months ago
@SergioBizzle To you it is, btw, I don't see FFL in Iraq, afghan, or anywhere else in the world doing thier job. The Di's aren't even pressuring them! I don't see much stress compared to SEAL Team 6 training or Force Recoc.
AudioAngerCinema 7 months ago
@AudioAngerCinema you obviously don't know why FFL exists and what is their purpose...)
SergioBizzle 7 months ago
@SergioBizzle No, I don't actually. I would know if they actually made a name for themselves and actually would do shit. I don't think there's anyone who doesn't know who the Marines are, and that's obvious why. I respect any fighting force even the FFL. It's just that USMC is the best. Im not going to argue anymore though. But you should watch SEAL training or force recon.
AudioAngerCinema 7 months ago
@AudioAngerCinema well all i can say is that people fromo USMC have gone to FFL and said that it's the hardest thing they've ever done, personally i think u being a bit too partriotic but hey i'm not gonna argue anymore either, we just agreed to dissagree ;P
SergioBizzle 7 months ago
Dude, USMC is not the "best" even as a conventional fighting force. You should check out some of the Airborne units: 101st, 82nd, and 173rd all have a pretty glorified combat history. You should also check out Ranger School, I've heard of SEALs and Recon Marines who said that it was tough. But besides that, it's not the military that makes a person tough, anybody can be tough and give 200%. It's all up to the person. Remember: the uniform doesn't make the man, the man makes the uniform.

Baseshocks 10 months ago

Yes, I have had Frostbite on my toes, and frostnip on my hands. Frostbite is fucking brutal, but this guy is being a pussy about it, and it really looks mild (probably frostnip)

I find it hilarious how some of these idiots don't speak a word of French and when the corporal asks a question, they're like: "Derp..."
I know it isn't mandatory to know French before you join, but they should at least have a test to see if you understand enough French to get by in the first few weeks.
"David! Prenez Jameson pour le medic maintenant, s'il vous plait."
"Pardon, chef?"
"Go! Vite!"
"Ummm... Okay?"
MadamKouassi 10 months ago
@MadamKouassi The official test is know the creed in french. Then during boot camp they'll point at your food and if you can't speak it in french and if you can't they'll eat it. So yes, a very basic understanding is needed but learning the language fluently would take months. That's not an option, they're a military not a college.
taberr5 10 months ago
@taberr5 I haven't read that before. Interesting. What's also kind of funny is how they're trying to make it sound like it isn't a mercenary organization.
MadamKouassi 10 months ago
@MadamKouassi They're the definition of mercenary, but if you have to sign a 5 year contract to join and they have dress uniforms then I wouldn't call them mercenary's. The traditional mercenary still has it's place in Africa and Asia but that's about it. Most country's don't trust them. Just look at Blackwater, half the country thinks they're trying to retake the holy lands. They're not even real mercenarys.
taberr5 10 months ago
@taberr5 That was my first impression. Like you said, taking the words out of my mouth, with the uniforms, traditions and strong team attitude, they aren't typical mercenaries. In fact, mercenaries work for usually higher sums of money than normal army forces. The Legion forces earn about the same, I'd think, as regular French soldiers.
And I know what you mean... I have given some thought you joining the Legion, but never Blackwater.
MadamKouassi 10 months ago
@taberr5 *TO joining the Legion, not you. My mistake. That was a typo.
MadamKouassi 10 months ago
@MadamKouassi Don't hate on Black Water. They were a response to the decrease in military number through the end of the cold war. A lot of people got kicked out of the military who wanted to continue operating. Everyone thinks Iraq is over, but in reality PMCs replaced the military. Most of them are guys who were in the invasion.
taberr5 10 months ago
@taberr5 There's sense sending in PMCs first. The French do it. That's why they have the Legion. They send in the Legion first when someone goes down because then if they get killed, it's only foreigners, not French soldiers. You can avoid a whole lot of bad publicity by using mercenaries instead of your own troops. I'm sure nearly every major super power employs mercenaries, even today. In global hotspots, it's far easier and less trouble to send in a few mercs and avoid all the other troubles.
MadamKouassi 10 months ago
@MadamKouassi So the Legion is used as shock troops. That makes sense to me now. I didn't know that before. You were thinking about joining? Do you have any prior military experience?
taberr5 10 months ago
@taberr5 Kind of, yes. They were sent in during the Rwandan crisis to extract French expats when the country started going bad and the UN pulled out some of their forces.
I was considering joining, yes. I'd thought about it before, forgotten and then I started thinking about joining again, but maybe in the future. I'm not sure.
No, I have no prior military experience. I'm only 16. And yourself? Marines or army, perhaps?
MadamKouassi 10 months ago
@MadamKouassi Yea, USMC Infantry, I'm 23. I didn't really find what I was looking for so I'm considering some options. I'm thinking about volunteering in Burma to try to improve my resume. Not sure thou.
taberr5 10 months ago
@taberr5 I'm planning on Joining the USMC and going Infantry, I come from a military family, but was wonder what you didn't find in the USMC cause.I'm sure you found action/adventure. but...ya i don't know what you didn't get out of the Corps if you don't want to share I understand
Dogmeat1950 9 months ago
@Dogmeat1950 Leadership is crap. I heard that it just went to crap recently though so you're family probably has nothing bad to say about it. It's very unorganized and there are allot of restrictions. I offered to extend(the only one from my class) for the next deployment but was denied. I spent the last 6 months in the USMC babysitting boot POGs. That's like slapping me in the face. FYI I was infantry I have 8 ribbons and I'm a combat vet just so you know I wasn't a POG. For starters.
taberr5 9 months ago
@taberr5 Na, man mad Respect for you, I grew up on military bases my father retired after 33 years Navy and USCG. in the Navy he was Naval Special Operation, Hal3det5 SeaWolves, he did 4 tours in Vietnam. after the war they got rid of his unit so he got out of the Navy, which upset him. 4 years later he joined the USCG. then Retired .
Dogmeat1950 9 months ago
@Dogmeat1950 If you're in good shape I would recommend joining the Army Rangers. They are pretty cool and high tech. If I could go back I would have done it.

when body parts are frozen you should NEVER pour hot water, that could fracture your bones, i learned that the hard way in Sweden, never hot water it just makes thing allot worst
HerroHerrar 10 months ago
@HerroHerrar

Does anyone know if bad vision will disqualify me from joining the French Foreign Legion? I have perfect 20/20 vision corrected and it has never been a big issue but I am worried I won't be accepted. Any feedback?
kevluv93 11 months ago
@kevluv93
Bad vision will disqualify you, but has to be pretty bad. When I was at Fort de Nogent a guy had a one good eye but the other he missed about half. He passed the eye test but from the comments from the fellow giving him the test I think he just made it. You will not be allowed to be tested w/ glasses.
