If someone is interested in contemporary but classical authors I suggest you STEFANO SEMPRINI's SONATAS FOR VIOLIN AND PIANO - that are now edited by ArsMusica Edizioni (Rome). You can easily check them on the official website and on internet!
@Soccer1296 Anne ruins the cadenza!? Surely you don't mean the Sarah Chang version uploaded here on YT. It's just stressful how out of sync Sarah is when they reintroduce the orchestra. Anne Akiko Meyers performs this piece with a beautiful maturity without all the posturing and histrionics.
@proggoth i agree that the re-entrance was pretty bad. but i believe the ending of the cadenza (8:17-end) anne takes it WAY too fast. i like how sarah chang expresses the low G notes very strongly and slowly. I prefer it that way. and thats the way i like to play it. :)
what a creative, sensitive and vigorous interpretation of this concert..what a talent you have. Love the expressions and phraseology you use. Your technique just adapts perfect to what you express in your music. I am impressed!
the high note at 3:03 - 3:07 well there are no words. the orchestre had already played along, and at every bar and stanza along the way once the Strad takes the music over, it is remarkable. even if an impressario were present in addition - her performance is magnificent. then too, every person blessed with hearing should be given the opportunity to hear 4:15 - 4:29.incredbile. and not to be fulsome, at 5:22 -5:28 is just ok but the entire piece is 10 out of 10. BraVOOO000ooooo.

@thelittleviolin97 If you didn't notice, this video is entitled "Anne Akiko Meyers Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Minor," not "Let's comment on the violinist's nose." Your comment is irrelevant to the video and disrespectful to the artists.
The young people of the world recognize the incredible beauty of hip-hop versus euro classical. euro classical is whimpering before the abortion. Opera houses are closing, orchestras are shutting down due to diminished or virtually no funds. It's not merely the economy--it's the paucity of interest in euro classical among the young. These are facts, and facts are stubborn things. Good riddance, and may hip-hop bloom in the ears of the young for a hundred years.
I liked it a lot...she has fellinf and does a good perofoemance, but never compares to my favorite and most remarkable vionlinist of XX century: DAVID OISTRAKH
Im a metal head i love death metal but..there is something in classical music that calls my attention!!! so much..i have travel with this music i have cry i have go beyond imagination with this kind of music!! Specially Mendelssohn!!
Listened to her play this live live and also now and she still doesn't impress me... although the symphony support can barely be heard in this recording which doesn't help at all, and we only get 9:06! Unfortunate that the many of the best parts are cut out.
My favorite *complete* video of this on YouTube is Christian Ferras... my favorite recording though... too many great ones to name!
@RabidCh Yes, I like Christian Ferras's videos also, especially his Franck Sonata.I still enjoy hearing this overplayed concerto because of the great sounding digital recordings that are now available. She makes a really clear and beautiful sound but apart from the climactic notes it generally seems a little 'too safe' as though she's holding back her emotions.
that part a little after 3 minutes in just melts my heart, and i can't help but close my eye and swollow because it feels like my spirit is slowly slipping out and heading for heaven.
i like it...as in this piece. and i don't think akiko is a bad violinist at all, but i think Hilary Hahn's style captures this piece better. she's my preferred on this. and of course, Perlman tears it up- he's insanely awesome!
Everytime I listen to this recording, it makes me feel like practicing 3 hours a day. On off days, I listen to music. Well, I better start practicing.

One of The Best! Can You Teach Me How To Play The Violin? What Kind Of Cushion Are You Using? Your Playing Speaks For Itself. No Further Comment. Please Do Not Reply.
This is the one true piece my girlfriend will play to argue that her violin is better than my piano! You are right, my friend. Just like Bach's cello suite, some immortal pieces are written in particular instruments that even the so called orchestra-in-one piano can NEVER imitate.
I urge you to pick up your violin again! So what if you cannot play like J.Bell? Satisfaction with our own limited mastery is more than enough!
Ergo my girlfriend just this as her ultimate argument. I still think piano is a more diverse instrument, but one can't digress; there are quite a lot of pieces out there that just work best for the intended instrument written for hundreds of years ago...
Thank you, Master Mendelssohn for all your immortal contribution, and for "rediscovering" the long forgotten Bach for all of us. Without his "rediscovery", the much-loved romantic genre would have been very different/impossible.
this was good but i just don't like her style of playing. it's not that her playing is too soft, it's just light and playful compared to sarah chang's. there were parts where i thought she could have played a bit more legato instead of seperating the nots so much. anne and sarah are both very extremely accomplished musicians, it's just a matter of personal taste here.
I'll leave alone Sarah Chang's fans. But for those who are still undecided, compared to Anne, Sarah sounds more like a mechanic able to produce loud and brilliant sounds on the violin. That's about all. In my opinion, Anne brings more out of this piece than even the greats of bygone age. She beats Heifetz, Sterns, etc., etc.,etc., Call me an Anne diehard fan for all you want........
