I grew up in Calif,swam in deep and shallow water in prime shark water,we saw them on rare occasions,in 10 years I was never attacked,chances are about the same as being struck by lighting.I was never afraid,now with all the media attention,everybody thinks their going to be eaten.

There is a shark repelebt. It is almost like an underwater stink bomb that reaks of dead shark. I know that it can deter a shark from a particular beach but i dont know if it would have any effect on a shark already in attack/feeding mode

If u think it´s unnormal for a shark to jump out of the water, then seriously learn more of these animals. By attacking their prey they jump about 3 meters across the surface (white ones i dont know if other sharks do it but i think not :) )

I just seen a documentary about this area in India turning into swap land & 3 villagers were canoeing in the middle of a river. A 400lb TIGER leaped out the water and snatched the guy sitting closest, out of the canoe. The other 2 beat him w/ paddles until the tiger let go & swam back to land. Scientist say the tigers r evolving w/ the environment, etc. WoW!

@fatfantastic sharks are actually shy animals while others are very curious. Sharks dont eat people, but they can be dangerous. If sharks were the monsters we portray them, id be dead by now since i have been in the water with sharks. I would take my chances with a white shark in open water than with a drunk driver. sharks are the least of our problems, humans are scarier.
