first of all, great mixing! you blew me away. also, i saw that you have vdj7 but the rmx comes with vdj5. is it an easy upgrade to vdj7 or how'd you manage to get it?
@snowboardfreak572 thanks man, the upgrade is easy but it costs. I think I paid $250 for the vdj pro. The good thing is once you pay for you get all the updates free forever.
Your explanation about what didn't like about this controller was very useful and it helped with my decision to purchase this controller. I bought the MKII to get back into DJing and I'm also on a strict budget, however the MKII is also malfunctioning and I'm ready to upgrade to another controller.
@politicool1 most samples are pretty stock and you can get them online or at the virtual dj website. Some of them I made for my sets by combining samples and fx.
@OGDirtyGerman I decided to get back into the DJ thing about 3 years ago. I wanted something cheap that I could play with and get familiar with the music out there. I bought the Hercules MK2 and planned to get a Serato box eventually. I ended up really liking what the MK2 could do so I took it on my first tour. I upgraded to the RMX. Now I am sponsored by Traktor so things are going to change after my upcoming tours. They gave me Scratch Pro, the X1 and the Maschine. So look out.
Yo i got the Hercules RMX man i performed it at my own school it was crazy the next morning i got up every single students wants me to give them my autographs and request like i didnt know i can get famous with the RMX but i am at my own school and i got my 2nd gig at the party in NYC!!!
@leadfarmer13 I couldnt really give you and informed answer cause I havent used the vci-300, but from what i've seen on youtube it looks pretty dope. I could never scratch on the RMX the way I see these guys scratching with the vci. I guess it would depend on your budget and what your trying to do with it. I don't really get into scratching at live shows; just mixing and cutting things up. Try them both if you can.
Just wanted to let you know, it was YOU and this video in particular that helped guide my decision to buy a DJ control Steel, which is essentially the same unit as yours, less the sound card. I'm going to mess with audio production later, so an outboard soundcard is needed for that, so no need for both I figured. Thanks man! I might have some more questions for you later!
I am a total newb and want to play around with this stuff, seems with the MP3 E2 I have to get a decent 4 channel sound card too, and then I don't have the nice controls for monitor an volume handy. The new upcoming MK4 is too close in price to this RMX. How much am I giving up with an MP3 E2? are the jogs the same for scratching?
I honestly couldn't tell you. Up until now all I've used are turntables (old school), the MK2, and the RMX. The Traktor system is on the way so I will have something to say about that soon. Hercules, if you want I will review for you ;-)
Respect Selector. Looks like Hercules was watching this review. The new MK4 brings back the pitch knobs and the cover from the MK2. What do you think? Also, what version of VDJ do you use?
You know the old mk2 has a knob in each top corner that clicks and turns full 360 degrees to adjust the pitch? Does the remix have a knob that also turns 360 degrees that could be mapped to control the pitch? Thats the only thing thats putting me off, because I can see how annoying that pitch slider thing could be, the pitch knob on the old mk2 was super useful, it'd be a shame to not have that anymore. Does the rmx make up for it?
the slider kills me it is so inaccurate. I use it as it were an effect when I transition between styles of music sometimes. I've remapped buttons 3 and 6 to use as my - and + pitch buttons you can set the sensitivity as well. I don't have it too sensitive cause it would take forever to click to the speed you want. When I get close to the bpm's that I want then I push the sync button to match the speed. It might not make a whole lot of sense if you cant see what Im talking about.
is it true that if you have an instrumental on one deck but dont have the acapella of a certain verse you want on the other deck that you can just boost the mids of the song you want the verse from and it will sound like a decent ? get what im asking here? thanks
I wouldn't really boost any of the eq's what you should do is drop out the bass of the one you want to hear only the vocals; it helps. let me know how it works for you.
go to config -> mappers-> dj controller -> then just map out what you want your buttons to do. I have my stop button as cue_stop. But you should personalize it. Play around and see what you're most confortable with, because each function may have drawbacks. you have to get used to the functions so that it becomes second nature or you can start messing up your cue points and doing things you don't want to do. Let me know if this helps.
yeah man, i thought the mapping was more advanced, since i see you keep your finger on the stop button while you beat juggling....a mapping something likes "effect "beatgrid" while_pressed" or whatever. thanks anyway !
Hey there, that's one of the coolest mixes I've ever heard :) I'll be buying a rmx soon. Could you be kind enough to tell me the names of the songs you used?
you can change the function of every single button, knob, and fader by going into config then to mappers of your virtual DJ. You can also use every key on your keyboard as a different function. I have my samples, loops, fx, and even cue points all set up on different keyboard strokes. I've also re arranged some of the controls on my RMX. My setup is completely customized for me. Its going to take a couple hours to learn equipment but go through the instructions; it's worth it.
Yeah have to agree you inspired me to buy a Hercules Mk2 and purchase Virtual DJ just watching with what you could do with the MK2 was incredible. I wish Youtube didnt take away the audio.... You are the master of the MK2!!! Do you know if Hercules still manufactures the MK2 in it's production or did they discontinue it. You should just get another MK2 man you are Beast on that thing!!!
You have influenced my DJ career, i started on the RMX, but watched what you could do on the MK2 and totally realized that with what u where working with you sounded a million times better than most DJ's out there!!! Keep grinding!!!!
You are awesome dude, Have you taken a look at the " Numark NS7 " ? just do a youtube search for it then click to sort by newest and check it!! If you started with the NS7 You'd be the master within weeks I bet. God bless!

I don't use the foam at all, I just put it in the bag, nothing moves its fine. I have a Targus backpack I put the laptop in there.

You don't necessarily HAVE to put it in the styrofoam (sp?), you know.

very good man ! Respect.
I have the DJ control steel, pretty much the same equipment but without the internal soundcard. I'm very glad of it !
Anyway, I have a question for you :
what did you exactly map in VDJ to get this beat juggling function while you press the stop button ?
Thanks.
