  • nice lute. creepy lute player.

  • @nequillim That is a nasty glitch, which could damage speakers too. It would be nice if Bonproducer could re-up the video for a fresh transcode.

  • Delicate music, beautifully played. And I might add how nice it is too see an artist take the trouble to dress nicely for a recording/video.

  • people who call this guy a fag are just jealous

  • Which cd is this on out of curiosity?

  • The sheet music for this is in Serge Gerbode's collection under RJohnson and then almain_07.pdf.

  • sweet, Im building an electric lute, the next big thing in music mark my words.

  • Can't help admiring

  • Great performance

  • Between Julian Bream's modern version without any ornementation, very "dynamic" and the etheral interpretation of Konrad Junghanel for the first piece which is not a Galliard but an Almaine (called the "false Almaine") with an unexpected quick tempo.

A good balance ! Deftly played with a great Renaissance flavour ! Nigel North is a great lute player !

    Great thanks !

  • r u sure this isnt music by John Johnson, lutanist in the elizabethan era?

  • This is a really great piece guys, i do play it myself. not as easy as it sounds but very satisfying to play. Yes iam a Lutenist (amature)

Nigel North what can i say, he always plays well!!!

HE is at the musicality end of the spectrum!!!!!

People do rave about Paul O'dette and his dazzling technique, i find his "machine gun" speed and the tendency to make things sound like scales a bit much at times.

  • Soo strong and energy with sweet and gladly, i really love it, hail from Brazil

  • It's obvious you're a pro. Very nice!

  • The most sophisticated lutenist of his generation - he really makes the lute sing!

  • First time I've heard this version: only knew Gibbons' for virginal (No2)...

  • great player!

i remember his master's class 11 years ago in Jerusalem...

  • you are rude!

  • Well that can be your subjective thought, but my personal experience with Nigel is completely opposite. He is a great player and a nice guy.

  • Just beautiful

  • Truly beautiful sound on this recording of the wonderful Mr North. Thanks for uploading.

  • Dangg. Nigel North is the best lute player. Calm and refined playing. Also very nice guy

  • The first 2 sound more like Almans than Galliards...

  • The first one is "the prince's almain", & the 2nd one is "the prince's maske".

  • @chapmaninthemoon Well you should know, brother - you STOLE the music for the first off me years ago, but then I stole it back again later hehe :)

  • Really good. I hope Robert Johnson will get a renaissance as the great composer he was back in the heyday. Nigel, who plays this lute by Lars Jönsson so admirably, seems to be the best suited person to achieve this. If I am correctly informed, Nigel recorded this new cd playing all the music from memory. Hats off!

  • How do you know his lute is by Jonsson? Fine performance, anyway! :)

  • Nigel was in Sweden in 2007 and played in a concert, he played the concert with Jonssons lute and the recordings is made with the same lute.

  • Du bel ouvrage, le choix du phrasé, le timbre, bravo!
