Between Julian Bream's modern version without any ornementation, very "dynamic" and the etheral interpretation of Konrad Junghanel for the first piece which is not a Galliard but an Almaine (called the "false Almaine") with an unexpected quick tempo.
A good balance ! Deftly played with a great Renaissance flavour ! Nigel North is a great lute player !
This is a really great piece guys, i do play it myself. not as easy as it sounds but very satisfying to play. Yes iam a Lutenist (amature)
Nigel North what can i say, he always plays well!!!
HE is at the musicality end of the spectrum!!!!!
People do rave about Paul O'dette and his dazzling technique, i find his "machine gun" speed and the tendency to make things sound like scales a bit much at times.
Really good. I hope Robert Johnson will get a renaissance as the great composer he was back in the heyday. Nigel, who plays this lute by Lars Jönsson so admirably, seems to be the best suited person to achieve this. If I am correctly informed, Nigel recorded this new cd playing all the music from memory. Hats off!
nice lute. creepy lute player.

@nequillim That is a nasty glitch, which could damage speakers too. It would be nice if Bonproducer could re-up the video for a fresh transcode.

Delicate music, beautifully played. And I might add how nice it is too see an artist take the trouble to dress nicely for a recording/video.

The most sophisticated lutenist of his generation - he really makes the lute sing!

Why would I just say that though. He's actually rude. And an honest dick.

Well that can be your subjective thought, but my personal experience with Nigel is completely opposite. He is a great player and a nice guy.

The first 2 sound more like Almans than Galliards...

The first one is "the prince's almain", & the 2nd one is "the prince's maske".

How do you know his lute is by Jonsson? Fine performance, anyway! :)
luteplayer80 3 years ago
Nigel was in Sweden in 2007 and played in a concert, he played the concert with Jonssons lute and the recordings is made with the same lute.
