  • liking all bands chosen....but there are such better dream theater songs....like take the time or under a glass moon...but metropolis part one is god.

  • TOOL!

  • No Rush; no like.

  • @Ryu12543 Rush = Hard Rock, not metal.... and refer to title of video

  • @13KeY37 Well I agree that was dumb of me, but Rush is progressive rock/heavy metal.

  • @odischester1 don't forget Ant's Of The Sky off of Colors!

  • I want to know the only thing. Where Is FTES WARNING???????

  • Between the buried and me- the great misdirect.... listen to the whole album... insane

  • To me, Metropolis pt. 1 will be the best song ever made.

  • No darkwater???

  • Too much dream theatre

  • acid rain of liquid tension experiment ti's 1°

  • a change of seasons, in my opinion, is the greatest thing ever. if i had to choose between god and a change of seasons i would choose a change of seasons....

  • someone definitely likes Dream Theatre...

  • Not a bad list... but it could use some Devin Townsend, Pain of Salvation... even Death.

  • Dream Theater: The count of tuscany! is the best!

  • where are shadow gallery? fool! :)

  • Tool is even metal? :P...

  • came here for Tool....saw it as the first band....and left, immediately satisfied

    .

    ha ha joking

  • good quality! thx for sharing!

  • you seem to have forgot to show protest the hero you idiot

  • @sarge12346 PTH isn't as much prog metal than it is math core

  • These bands play barely progressive music. Listen to WatchTower, Spiral Architect, Spastic Ink or Ron Jarzombek - now that's progressive metal that puts all your "progressive" bands to shame.

  • @Brainthrasher LOOOOOLL Dream Theater is the most progressive band out there bud.

  • @GlaedrsRevenge you must never heard of Spastic Ink.

  • @Brainthrasher Prog is more than odd time signatures

  • wheres protest the hero?!

  • Nice list, but the only thing is that you should have put more of the progressive parts of the songs, instead of the choruses, where it's mostly common time. Also I think DT's The Dance of Eternity could have definitely made the list! :)

  • nice!! i love dream theater!!, but you forgot rush

  • no sikth?

  • There is a song Green Carnation-Light Of Day,Day Of Darkness that is 60 minutes long

  • @extrememetal100 but green carnation isn as good as dream theater is!

  • @crackwarkevo

I think so:Green Carnation sounds better even if i heard only one song

  • i fucking love tool, but i think theyre not too pregressive

  • Need moar Pain of Salvation.

    Seriously.

    I'm not kidding.

  • I hate it when people reduce progressive rock to Queensryche, Dream Theater and Symphony X... there is so much more out there...

  • @GarciaVicente1 They're the best progressive bands. Although "progressive" only goes so far, Symphony X is more metal than prog. "Progressive" is a very broad term.

  • Monument by Fates Warning number 1!!!

  • does anyone know what style you'd call nevermore, thats the sort i was looking for

  • Dream Theater's LOST BUT, NOT FORGOTTEN seems to be the epitome of EPIC tunes.

  • @DOUBLEDEEZ70

It's the best guitar solo Johns EVER done!!!

  • Surely people may miss something always, but the Nr1 is really no question.

    You were right!!!

  • where are fates warning? fool!!!!

  • @VictorakosTheBest Yeah, where's the FATHER of THE PROGRESSIVE METAL???

  • What kind of fucked up list is this??

  • DREAM THEATER <3!!!!!!

  • and...WHERE THE HELL IS OCTAVARIUM??????

  • James LaBrie's song's not a prog metal one...Yes he sings in DT but that makes not his own songs prog metal... :( The rest is cool dude :) :)

  • any rush? come on

  • MUDVAYNE

  • @pigboot2910

    LOL...Mudvayne??? Really? LOL!

  • where is spiral architect, where is threshold, where is sieges even AND FATES WARNING? YOU FAIL¡¡¡ LISTEN MORE PROG,PLEASE

  • OPETH!!!

  • What about Savatage, Metal Church, and Sanctuary?

  • where the fuck is Fates Warning?

  • ADAGIO AND NEVERMORE !!!!

  • Tool is very much a Progressive Rock band. I probably wouldn't say they're Prog Metal but Prog Rock for sure. Alternative Prog works for them, too. But Prog Rock and Prog Metal have expanded in their scope, hence the name Progressive cuz it's ever evolving and always different with different influences and structures not found in most commercial music.

Pagan's Mind and Circus Maximus are great bands. Totally agree with that!!

    .

  • Top 10 Bands:

    1.Dream Theatre

    2.Dream Theatre

    3.Dream Theatre

    4.Dream Theatre

    5.Dream Theatre

  • As many others i cant agree with a top X chart which duplicates bands, you make it closer to a top 5. Before you name a chart "Top of all times" you must explore much of the genre, which you havent done. A name like "My own top 10" would be closer to the truth.

  • Symphony X's best song is The Odyssey

  • check out X Opus and their CD 'The Epiphany'...BTW, Tool is not progressive..maybe 'alternative progressive', but not really progressive

  • stratovarius

  • LTE, DT, James LaBrie.. You sure like the members of Dream Theater :P

  • YOU MISSED THE ORIGINAL AND THE MAIN INSPIRATION DUDE!!!

    S A V A T A G E.......

  • Guys wow! search "Thorns Of Eleven". It's a band. Black Atom Reign. It's a live studio video of a song off of their just released first EP.Very talented and musically gifted!! THEY NEED TO BE HEARD!! SERIOUSLY!!!

  • Watch my top 15 of symphony x songs please!!

  • sober is not even progressive

  • I wouldn't classify Tool as "prog metal". They are more on the lines of avant-garde metal, and their song sober isn't one of there most prog-influenced songs.

  • 23 minutes is a good length for a prog song Change of seasons 23minutes Echoes 23minutes

  • awesome!

  • what about SAVATAGE???? ANGERY FACEE

  • Opeth is Progressive Death Metal, and this list is of only Progressive Metal bands

  • power dream theatre¡¡¡¡¡

  • Tragic selections...

  • Is that a picture of a goatse?

  • Couldn't agree more with the number 1 :D but listen to other things dude C:

  • Wow, just curious why there isn't any metal songs in this :P

  • Dream Theater is my favorite band, but your list is very close-minded. May I suggest expanded your range of artists? Check out Between the Buried and Me, and even the new band Bad salad.(you can find Bad Salad's songs on Youtube) I think you would like both of them since you like DT. (Bad Salad reminds me of a new DT)

  • guys, if you're into progressive metal, check out Australian progressive metal/metalcore band NEW PARADIGM! we've got a few demo's up, check them out! I guarentee it will be worth the effort!

  • if it was me i would add some Opeth songs, but its his opinion, he might not like them.

  • \m/ ah yes, tool. good stuff...but there first album is not progressive metal. progressive music is using odd time signatures, and tool's first album, "undertow", did not use barley any off beat riffs, like the songs, schism, the pot, & vicarious......but you shoulda listed tool as # frickin' 1 \m/

  • Where is Opeth? And why is there Dream theater but no Porcupine Tree? Some list you have here :/

  • This list is shocking. Not only should this video be all Tool songs considering the title, but the only Tool song that did make the list is entirely in 4/4 and is made up of two chords and not progressive at all. Honestly, how could you miss songs like Third Eye, Parabola, Lateralus, Undertow, Rosetta Stoned, Right in Two, 10k Days. I could go on. Shame on you.

  • Went from Tool to LTE???

  • @mediblue9 i agree, tool should be #1

  • Comment removed

  • Of sins and Shadows is my favorite hear, just epic....

wanna hear somethin progressive: Impelliteri - Victim of the system

and another one but not so metal: Sex machineguns - Aijin 28

this one is kinda funny and stuff but u gotta hear the solo and the drum in that song, its awesome

  • love all these bands, but you need to widen up, put something like like Opeth, Tomorrow's Eve or Coheed And Cambria for example

  • The best PROGRESSIVE METAL song out there is MASTODON- "The Czar" I. Usurper II. Escape III. Spiral IV. Martyr. Without a doubt one of the most original songs ever, and thats hard to do when you are in the prog. metal genre.

  • Opeth???????????????

  • @RammsteinW Opeth is a VERY solid prog. metal band, and should def. deserve to be in the list BUT IMO Mastodon is by far the greatest prog. metal bands out there, Opeth is a close second for me. Cant wait for OPETH's "Heritage" and MASTODON's "The Hunter" to come out. Only a couple more months, Fuck yeah! You like Mastodon??

  • @roflcoptergoessoi Google; Between The Buried and Me.

  • selkies? elo?

  • White

    Walls.

  • No offense, these bands are great, but there should be Fates Warning.

  • ZOMG I AM SOOO MAD!!!! YOU LISTED YOUR OWN OPINIONS RATHER THAN WHAT I THINK ARE THE BEST! I'M AM SO GOING TO THUMBS DOWN THIS!!!!

  • This is an outrage! Where is Ballbreaker by AC/DC?

  • @theveryelect24 AC/DC isnt prog.

  • @theveryelect24 L.O.L. idiot.

  • wow! I didn't expect to see eyes of stranger xD nice

  • Octavarium! And the dance of eternity...

  • You have a very limited selection, since there are so many other Prog Metal bands out there. It would seem you don't get out much. Do me a favor and ween yourself off of Dream Theatre for a while (even though they are a good band) and check out some of the other talents out there: Vanden Plas, Age of Nemesis, Lanfear...If you dig Queensryche and Dream Theatre I'm sure you'll dig some of these other bands. While you're at it try Pagan's Mind too.

  • @bongobingoaz Forgot Circus Maximus

  • @bongobingoaz nahhhh mate literally i listen to fuck loads of other amazing prog rock/metal bands and none of them even come close to how good dream theater is...

  • @benjaminvize1 MYRATH kicks Dream Theaters ass so hard ;-)

  • @bongobingoaz Why no Porcupine Tree?

  • Comment removed

  • how about all 42 minutes of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence?

  • A Wild Hare-Spastic Ink should be in this list D:

  • A Change Of Seasons or Octavarium?

  • CHOICES(correction)

  • DREAM THEATER/JAMES LEBRIE WERE 2/5 OF YOUR CHOISES...YOU NOW GOOD MUSIC!!!!!!!!!

  • first is youtube.com/watch?v=48yahUu0M0c

  • Some great choices here - "Seasons" IS probably one of the most fully realised things DT has done (along with most of "Scenes From A Memory"), "Mindcrime" isan awesome album, and I'm a massive Symphony X fan (something from "The New Mythology Suite", "The Odyssey" or "Paradise Lost" would have been nice), but it's a shame Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Redemption and Ayreon weren't in the list.

  • thumbs up if u think Metropolis is the best prog metal song and Mindcrime the best LP ! but then again there is so much great stuff. great vid bro!

  • Where is Working Man?

  • Where Tool is prog?!

  • Yeah Change of Seasons definately 1. Nothing close.

  • DREAM THEATER IS BEST PROGRESSIVE BAND EVER!

    thumbs up, if you agree

  • GOOD CHOISE MAN

  • dream theater regnano!

  • Btbam???

  • you people should check out some king crimson if y'all get a chance, its good stuff!

  • iam pretty sure progressive metal is the genre ive been looking for my whole life. I didnt like the James Labrie or whatever....i didnt know Queensryche was progressive metal either, i learn something new everyday.

  • i already like it.. starts with tool..

  • dream theater kicks Ass dude i have two albums by them octaverm and images and words

  • if you consider your self a prog metal fan , so you are stupid cuz savatage is the prog metal band ever in history

  • almost all of your video is shit, except symphony x., y adagio, y ring of fire, y las bandas buenas?

  • Great songs all, but with 5 of your top 10 essentially being Dream Theater, (and 90% coming from just three bands) I'm wondering if you didn't allow fandom to play a role in the picks? Not to criticize, if they are your favorite bands, then obviously you'd rank them high. Cheers for keeping metal alive.

  • Ever heard of Savatage??????

  • @zoutte haha yea i have. a friend let me listen to one of their songs a couple of years ago ( i dont know how i remember this) good stuff if i can remember correctly. I remember it being like judas priest, am i wrong?

  • @337camo yaa, sorry to say you're wrong, it's more of a Dream Theater meets Iron Maiden

  • @zoutte haha its alright. i heard one song once.

  • 23 min.. ha you didnt hear six degrees of inner turbulence?, or metropolis(when dream and day reunite) live in the album`s anyversary, its awesome

  • Where the fck is porcupine tree?

  • Comment removed

  • @gogolplex74 Where the hell is Opeth? :D

  • @gogolplex74 porcupine tree are far too diverse to be dubbed progressive metal, with the sole exception of wedding nails, which totally shreds

  • @JohnnydeKing29 (sorry for late response I was away)

not only wedding nails, also anesthetize, the whole deadwing and nil recurring

and the diversity is the reason I love Pt so much

  • @gogolplex74

when the fck has porcupine tree become a progressive metal band?

  • @GrazFlow since In Absentia

  • @gogolplex74

    bullshit

  • @gogolplex74

Porcupine Tree is categorized as a psychedelic progressive rock band that has heavy prog elements to it like in Rush... There're no elements of metal in Porcupine tree it's not eclectic like Dream Theater etc. If you like progressive metal it doesn't make Porcupine Tree a progressive metal band. I was ripping off my hair while writing this.

  • i am sorry but a top ten list just cant represent the best that prog metal has to offer, you would need to do a top 50-100 list (dead serious)

  • That # 8 album cover is freakin lame!!!!!

  • Needs more Between the Buried and Me.

  • I find it really annoying how none of these lists mentions BTBAM.

  • The list isn't that bad.... but you are repeting too much!!!! where is Dali's dilemma, enchant, vanden plas, Circus Maximus, lemur voice... just to mention some bands. In the list you just mention Dream Theater, Symphony X and Queensryche.

  • transatlantic made a 77 minute song. whirlwind. btw tool is punk not prog lol

  • @jarlmaster47 I don't think Tool is punk. Why do you think Tool is punk?

  • wheres between the buried and me ?

  • Although X Japan is not considered progressive metal band, but Art of Life definitely qualifies as one of the best progressive metal songs of all time!

  • Wow, 3 different bands.

  • I find it annoying that a lot of new prog bands are either DT, Opeth, or like BTBAM copies. When I write my prog songs, even though I listen to mostly modern prog, I find the most inspiration in KC, Rush, and ELP!

  • What about protest the hero? that's prog metal. not dream theater.

  • For me its "Under Glass Moon - Dream Theater"

  • Three words: Mesh. Ugg. Ah. All you need to know 'bout prog metal

  • @NecroButcher91 there's much more to prog metal than Meshugga, although Meshugga is one of the most important bands evah.

  • Really agree on #1!!

  • Dream Theater Will Always Be The Ultimate.

  • Where's Rush? Protest the Hero? Pink Floyd? Between the Buried and Me? Periphery? Animals as Leaders? And hell, The Dance of Eternity would have been just fine from Dream Theater.

  • @Jusher5 pink floyd and rush are prog rock not prog metal

  • @roadrunneruntd

    Who cares? Rush inspired Octavarium.

  • @Rovelius39X7 rush pink floyd and muse. if you are referring to the album not the individual song .

  • @roadrunneruntd

I definitely felt some Muse in that album. "Never Enough" sounds a lot like "Stockholm Syndrome."

  • @Rovelius39X7 true man :) deinately ahd the same vibe

  • Where is Kamelot and Nightwish?!?!?!

  • @JudasPriestFan98 kamelot and nightwish prog? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA

  • @stazz006 Yeah, Kamelot is prog metal. Nightwish is more symphonic metal, but they has a little prog in them.
