I lived outside DC when Williams led the Skins to the Super Bowl--I actually ran across him pumping his own gas at a station near Redskins Park in Herndon once. (His car back then was a beat-up 5-year-old Saab!) The word around there was that Williams was a nice guy, very down-to-earth.
15 pass plays. Just goes to show how much confidence McKay had in his QB. How the Buc's even got to the NFC Championship game that year really says a lot about that defense.
The '79 Bucs team should have played in Super Bowl XIV and if they had gone on to play the Steelers, even though I wasn't born yet, it would have been one interesting matchup. Also, this was the year that Doug Williams and at the time a relatively unknown offensive coordinator named Joe Gibbs were working together and 8 years later in Washington would become a part of Super Bowl history.
Man, I remember that day like it was yesterday! Wow. I agree, WCD73. It is hard to believe that it has been 30 years since that playoff game. Just think we were only 10 points away from going to the Super Bowl!!!
The Bucs will break out the old orange uniforms for at least one game next season, hard to believe it will be 30 years since that wonderful playoff season, should be interesting to see our newest players wearing our old uniforms, especially Jeff Garcia,if he is in fact still going to be a Buc next season, they should have a halftime ceremony honring the 1979 team, wonder how Coach Gruden will look in our old colors of orange and white!!
The 1979 Tampa Bay Buccaneers were one of the best teams ever, followed 1985 Chicago Bears and the 1992,1993,and 1995 Dallas Cowboys!!! and of course the 1998 Denver Broncos which won Super Bowl XXXIII against the Atlanta Falcons, and the 1998 Atlanta Falcons were'nt bad either!!!
7/15.. That was common during that era. But it's funny to hear. That not even a half for a QB in today's NFL.

15 pass plays was a plus for the bucs at that time during the playoffs. mainly cause of the fact that they were a defensive team.

I met Doug Williams at an Atlanta airport. He is a big guy and huge hands. He is a cool guy.

It would be hard to do since Mckay died. But break out those old uniforms just to honor the 1979 team.
