@regaz93 hey dude awsome tuorial!! just a quick question i want to hide the hood on the shrouded cowl so its just the half-mask visible, if you know how to render a specific piece of armour invisible id apreciate any help thnx!
Hey, great tutorial. Sorry if you have already answered this but I'm having a problem when I am dragging the dds file from the desktop to gimp. I get an error message that says Opening 'C:\Users\Mark Gonzales\Desktop\boots.dds' failed:
You could save time by doing that simple color change in gimp. It can do that and a lot more. Also, repeatedly converting files will cause a loss in quality. And technically this is texturing not modding, in order to actually truly mod, you need to know a programing language. But this was a great video. You are very good at instructional videos and should make more in the future.
does anyone have the problem with the missing libgimp-2.0-0.dll file missing from the libray so they cannot import the dds executable from winrar. need diagnosis and possibilities to fix this
Thanks for the great video man! But how do I make this into a mod to share with others that is standalone/non-replacer? Say I've created a standalone item in Creation Kit (that is just a item from Skyrim with some stats changed) and want to make a new texture for that, how would it work? Thanks man.
@ItsSkyrim Yeah, that's what I did, I went to Steam, SteamApps, and their is no commons folder, no textures, nothing, just.bas files. Could I possibly make a Textures, or commons folder and put all the items and folders into that one? Or would it just muff everything up?
You made an error with the last part which might be annoying for some people.
You forgot to enter the correct path for the files. It's textures/armor/dragonscale/m(or 'f' for female armor) THEN dump the dds file(s) in the m (or f) folder.
Without the m or f folder it doesn't work, It took me a while to figure out but it fixed it for me.
@regaz93 i'd like to know if there's a tutorial showing how to create HD textures.....i mean i know how to simply "adjust" an existing texture, but what if i would make an HD version? i searched the whole web and found nothing about. if you know how to do it pls make a tutorial on it! a lot of people will apreciate!
Can you change character textures? I mean like make your guy green and put tattoos on him? If so is that hard? Cuz it would be cool to have an illidan, or a kratos!
@realdenni199 yes I figured it out. Close that window, fire some reason the first time u open this program it shows a different window. The regular window will be there underneath smaller and blank. Just drag and drop the file you want to edit there and voilah. Hope this helps.
@regaz93 do you have any other tutorial like this? using 3ds max 2011, photoshop extened cs5 or 4... FO3 archive utility? officerbeardontcare's video is confusing... he didnt show a step by step tutorial...
I downloaded BSAopt because I didn't have Fallout, but when I go to extract a file the only option is 'Convert', and when I click that it starts copying every file it seems, even if I've only selected one texture. How do I extract one texture like you did?
Hey regaz, great video, really helped :) However I have a question, if you want an armor, to for an example have spikes sticking out, can you just draw it? But won't it look flat while looking from different angles? I have never modded before xP
Correct, since you are editing the texture, it would appear flat unless at the perfect angle, and that's if you did a really really good job. To make spikes you will have to get a 3D modeling program like MM3D (Which I use to modify Halo models, I don't know for sure if it works with Skyrim).
Quick question. Say i have a wooden dragon mask and would like to remove the light armor specification (make it like mage's clothes). I've tried opening it up (a custom esp of the dragon mask, i've changed it's textures) in FOMM in and TESnip but don't know how to proceed from there. any suggestions?
I got this to work and edited the redguard dark brotherhood hat (the one nazir wears) but when in game there is a big white area around the hood? However, the texture has changed, any idea how to get rid of the white area? Thanks for any help :)
OK, so i used gimp to edit, don't have photoshop, and i changed some color balance, hue saturation and brightness & contrast settings to get the desired effect i wanted, but when i go to save it, i get this: DDS: It appears your image may be a volume map,
but not all layers are the same size, thus a volume
im surprised i have not found how to apply the smoke Shroud effect that comes from Ebony Mail to other armors.. i have my Knightingale with custom enchants and Shrouded Armor bonuses. but the LAST thing i want is that black smoke effect on the armor i have now and i will be ready to go ahead and stop doing side quest and just finish this excellent game
I tried to remove an area of armor, but when I do it leaves a visible white line along the edges of where I deleted it on the model in game. Know how to remove that white line?
@Deathbringer99699 Nothing is actually replaced. Think of it more as overriding the original. If you were to delete, or move, the folder that we added (Textures) then it would revert back to the original files.
I FREAKIN LOVE YOU...... Is what i would say if i was that kind of guy.. but thanks you really just helped me solve a 5 hour problem i was having. im really amazed how the quality of youtube tutorials has dropped and i cant find more like this. thank you very much
question i did what you showed on the tutorial and it only worked half way cause i changed the color and everything and saved it. then in game the changes are made when i look at the item in the inventory but not when i put it on. any suggestions??
Oh I got a question. I changed a swords mesh to look like a fan so now ingame it is a colorless fan. I want to color it but when I open the texture it still looks like the original sword. (I didn't touch the texture when changing the sword to look like a fan, just mesh)
Alright sweet ill give dome recoloring a try. Oh yea ive downloaded almost a hundred mods already, ive just not been courageous enough to try making something up myself. Let alone artistic. I have no idea how to use photoshop. And even if I do look at tuts my work will probably turn out hideously haha
Sweet you seem chill. I'm never even gonna do this because I don't wanna eff up haha but thumbs up anyway. Do ya know how to port things from oblivion to skyrim? Say you want a certain sword from tesnexus to replace some skyrim sword such as daedric dagger?
@zachcuden You cant really mess anything up man! You can have at it! and sorry I dont, but check out Skyrimnexus(.)com you can find a lot of cool stuff.
