  • im a beginner but i want to get a helicopter with a night vision camera and a lil thing that will pick up and drop things. im practicing with a helicopter my fiance but i need a better one. can u recommend one to [ractice with and one to use for the night vision and things please inbox me thanks

  • Lol the fixed pitch is bashed

  • Great scott!!! What happened to that fixed pitch 300!!!

I started with a collective pitch main/fixed pitch tail rotor. Everyone learns a little differently so find what works for you.

Best advise - fly at your comfort level. Day 1 I started with less than a foot off the ground for a second keeping tail orientation. Day 7 I'm at eye level for almost a full battery pack. It might take you longer, it might take you less time, and try to stay within a radius. It'll become smaller overtime.

  • @superninjaskillz lol, nevermind... saw the rest of the video.

  • Left stick up-and-down is collective....

  • good vid info thanks

  • this all started with a syma 107 that i love for indoor. and i got quite great at flying it. so i moved outdoor with a relatively small fixed pitch. and now i want to move to 6 ch. my budget is extremely small. Ive looked into building a exi 450 but its pretty expensive and a bit complicated. i found the exceed eagle 50 for around 100 dollars and that fits into my budget great. but you said you dont recomend them with a tail motor. so im really not sure what to do. id like it to stand a lil wind

  • Is was wondering do I really have to go with the coaxial copter or can I go straight to the fixed pitch heli?

  • or just buy an iphone 4s

  • yeah it does get funny when the heli is turned around on you but very helpful

  • To differentiate between coaxial and fixed pitch helicopters isn't really correct because coaxial helicopters are fixed pitch in the pure sense of the term. We cannot change the pitch of coaxial helicopters therefore it is fixed.

  • @MikeysRC: Thanks buddy. Yeah I have been real tossed up to get the 120 SR or the more basic CX2 to start out with or maybe something by T-rex.

  • Looks like Arizona...Glendale area to be more specific??? I have never flown a real helicopter...ONLY those toy Air Hogs. I am thinking about buying a new Blade 120 SR and a DX6i TX. I have raced RC trucks for a couple years but again I have never flown a real RC heli. Would the 120 SR be a good choice or am I setting my self up for a disaster? I want an outdoor heli, what would you recommend?

  • @ElitePhotoPHX Since you have prevuious RC experience and practice with coordination then I think you'll be fine with the 120 heli.

  • i just masterd co-axial can i go to T-rex 450 or 250

  • what is the name of the fixed pitch helicopter that you own

  • Oh and what sim would u recomend

  • @mileysrc. What is the fixed pitch helicopter that you have.

  • Great review bro. Thanks.

Have you flown the Blade 450 yet?

  • nice info mike keep up the good work thanks for helping us out.

  • Can u do a video of a flybarless rc heli

  • Hey, I want to attach a go pro camera to a heli but I am a beginner. I wasn't thinking about jumping to a collective pitch heli, maybe the fixed pitch. I learn fast and have a steady hand. Price is a factor. I don't mind putting in time to learn but I don't see it becoming a serious hobby but (who knows). This is for a video project. Which heli would you recommend and why?

    -Thanks

  • @koolsodadotcom What is your budget? YOu can get a ready to fly (still will need minor adjustment) 450 clone helicopter for about 250 on ebay. I don't know of any fixed pitch helis stron enough to lift a gopro. WIth fixed pitch OR CCPM helis you will still need practice to fly it smoothly enough to give decent video. If you can afford it gert a heli with a 3 axis gyro built in.

  • @MikeysRC I wanted to stay as low as possible. $150 would be ideal, but not realistic. I will put the time to practice to get it right. I really wanted something more "out of the box" ready-to-fly type. I can look into the 450 clone.

  • @koolsodadotcom OK search this helicopter on youtube and the internet. volitation 9053 there is a small chance it might be ablt to pick up a gopro(with out the heavy plastic waterproof case) for a short time, be stabe and cheap enough for you.

  • @MikeysRC thanks ill check into it. Appreciate the help!

  • @koolsodadotcom I recently found that you could get a Belt CP 3D for around $150, which is amazing. A 450 collective pitch main/tail belt driven brushless heli for $150. Man, which this was my starter :)

  • Thanks I like your style of commentary. Professional, to the point(quick), knowledgable.

Question: what is the difference between a 400$ collective Heli like the one you have, vs a 150-220$ helicopter that still has 6 channels and everything. Thank you!

  • @TheFr3sh1 Well with out seeing the "$150 heli All I can speculate the difference is teh quality of the parts. You can actually buy a RTF 450 Trex clone heli for about $220 now. And actually the one I have on my table is a cheaper 450 clone too. The transmitter you see me using later in the vid alone can cost about $200 though. It's called a SPEKTRUM DX6i.

  • Do you know of any fixed pitch helis that can use that fuse?

  • The thing with me is I really dont want to do 3d flying. Ive been trying to find a 450 scale fixed pitch heli so I can put a scale fuselage on like a md500. Do you know if anyone makes a heli like this

  • @93mk4 go to skyhunterhobby dot com He sells that kind iof fuse for the 450 I think. Tell him Will from MikeysRC sent you.

  • is it possible to remove the stabilizers on a coaxial?

  • @MrBillDaBear Yes it is. I have tried it but trust me you won't like the results =).

  • Thanks cool video 4 Chanel for me

  • Great video well worth anybody watching this who wants to get into the sport :-)

  • I went for a Falcon 450 from Art-Tech instead, and im lovin' it. Thanks for your advice, and your videos also helped me out.

    Thanks!

  • Ok, thanks =)

  • I know blade tracking, pitch and gyro but is there anything else i need to do?

  • @OliverLarsen96 Hmmm well it's suppose to be a RTF heli. So if it was set up properly at the factory then you should only need to adjust the trims.

  • How do I setup the Honey Bee King 3 when it arrives?

  • Thanx I learned a lot

  • Thank You!

  • I have a Lama V4 co-axial helicopter and I'm getting good at flying it, but if i do quick turns I sometimes crash like the first clip. I think I'm ready to move on but can I skip the fixed pitch and go straight to a 6 channel, i was thinking Honey Bee King 3 because i don't have a lot of money.

    Thanks

  • @OliverLarsen96 Yeah you can do that. Just take it slow with the King for the frist several flights. Happy Flying! =)

  • so basicly wa he is sayin is spend 300 dollars on 3 helis of which 2 you will most probably bin and end up with a small 450 size electric 3d heli or you could do it my way go get nitro and have some fuckin fun

  • @nuttynoddy UM....nope not really. It depends on the budget and persons skill level. If someone has some RC skills already and a couple hundred bucks then got for the 450. Or spend a bajillion dollars on a nitro heli. Take it and your noob self out to a field for the first time....fire it up have no idea what you are doing fly it into yourself have to go to the emergency room get stiched up...yeah thats the best way for a beginner to get into the hobby fo sho!

  • you can get a nitro for a couple of hundred too i just jumped right in there but ur gonna end up smashin them all up at some point and the nitro is much more stable just as long as your out of the down draft plus you could flat line the pitch curve so the heli goes as high as you set it but then again it comes to cost so i would go get a simulator first for about $100 then get somethin tidy to learn on no co-axial, fixed pitch just go straight for the collective pitch. lol

  • why my rc helicopter does not lift up but the motor spins can someone help me please

  • @supermegafighter Best place to get your questions answered is to post them on my forum mikeysrc DOT com /rc-forum/

  • @MikeysRC are your blades upsidedown

  • @kubotaboy123 No.

  • @supermegafighter if its a fixed pitch or co-axial heli swap the blades around untill u get lift but if its a collective pitch heli take alook at you pitch curve

  • great video, god am i glad i saw this! well played my firend! you have cleared things up for me! i would call myslef an intermediate, and i think im going to buy myself a fixed pitch helicopter.

btw, was the yellow heli from the first crah still able to fly from that crash???

  • great video, god am i glad i saw this! well played my firend! you have cleared things up for me! i would call myslef an intermediate, and i think im going to buy myself a fixed pitch helicopter.

btw, was the yellow heli still able to fly from that crash???

  • @L3G3NdZ0136 O gosh golly gee willikers thanks for letting me know. I'm making the "gLee" symbol on my forehead right now for you.

  • i use infra-red antena

  • mine if u take off it will move in front , i dont have the cyclic

  • I think you burned out the motor on your ETRM. That is what I think happened.

  • your videos are so great, thank you!

  • @GunLuvnGuitaristGuy Yes you can make a variable pitch heli into a foxed pitch but it's not so simple as un plugging a cord on most helis. You would need to reprogram the transmitter.

  • Thanks for the tips Mike

  • All Your heli is Bad and not performant but blade cx2 and sr and 400 say remplace this heli Very more more good they heli you présent is poop Sorry but cheap heli

  • @Randylepipi blade 400??? ill take a trex450

  • hey mikey i'm just wondering can you get helicopter bodies sold separetely like on the one you have that looks like airwolf.

  • @1234adamdoyle Yes try skyhunterhobby dot com

  • why dont you recommend cp helicopters with a tail motor

  • @2009PatrickWhite Because the tail motor will run out fast. A belt is much better. TorkTube is also good, but not for cp beginners, because you WILL strip the tail gears.

  • Very helpful thx

  • i was wondering if you had heard of the 4ch venom night ranger 2 helicopter and if so is it a good helicopter and very good vid by the way. Thanks!!

  • why is the number of channels important?

  • @Pactanth It just tells you how sophisticated the heli is. And it has to do with the number of servos and motors that each type of heli requires.

  • collective / variable are the same thing. It means the pitch changes of the blades.

  • whats the difference between variable pitch and collective pitch

  • @xToXiicxT3RRoRx with a fixed pitch the only way you go up and down is by increasing or decreasing the speed of the main blades. On a collective both the RPM's and the angel of attack of the blades changes. It's gives you WAY more control.

  • @MikeysRC oh then whats variable pitch

  • I got a lama v4 these are quite fragile. That's normal right. Though i'm happy having the extreme blades. Your tutorials are realy helpfull. I shoulda seen them at the begining. Oh well i'll try em now. thx

  • Really good and explicative video.

I have years of fixed wing (planes) experience but never touched RC helis.. i ordered a Blade 120sr (fixed pitch single rotor) and im practicing a bit in FMS simulator (non gyros helis). Should i be fine with the 120sr for starters?

  • One thing I don't understand about 6ch r/c helicopters is how the angle is actually changed on the main rotor blades? Is it a switch on the controller?

  • Pretty good vid

  • cool like your video. i have the esky 4 ch trying to figure what the switch on the top right is for

  • @cobravenomX1 Throttle hold?

  • could you please do a video of a walk through of the 6- channel remote and how the collective pitch works. That would be much appreciated

  • @dmoney25ify I have already done that. Check out my video series "Cheapest Trex 450 helicopter"

  • Great series of vids!.Im not new to rc,have been into cars and trucks for some time but have never flown helis or planes.Would you suggest a fixed pitch or coaxial heli to begin with?,thanks.

  • @chiQiboy Since you probably have great orientation skills for you I'd recommend a good fixed pitch helicopter. Check out xheli dot com and look for their Mad Hawk fixed pitch heli. Though you might even bo OK with a 6 channel CCPM heli if you take it slow in the beginning and put some training gear on it.

  • hey just asking is it hard for a beginner to do 3d (but im an experienced beginner)?

  • What brand is that fixed pitch

  • @Crzynoob To rephrase that, what helicopter is that fixed pitch?

  • which should i buy syma aurora or syma alloy shark

it was help full but still some douts

  • @kittus5850 dunno...sorry I'm not familiar with either of those helicopters.

  • which should i buy syma aurora or syma alloy shark

  • I bought a honey bee CP2 this winter, it's my first helicopter :D I am still a noob :P

  • Wow,

What great explanations. I have a coaxial now. I might try a fixed pitch. Is the variable pitch better in the wind comapred to fixed pitch because of the size or that the controls are much more responsive?

  • i love the first heli its my favorite heli the comanchee where did you get it

  • Gr8 Vid.

I have had quite a few rc helis in my time and am a pretty compitent pilot but do i need to be very skilled before getting a 6 channel rc heli?

  • Mikey I have here a list of beginner helis. One is the E-flite's Ultra-micro Blade mSR RTF and BNF. The next is the Art Tech MD500 4CH RC Helicopter, then next is Blade mCX . The next is the Heli in your Learn to Fly Hover video the first heli in this vid. Which heli should I start with. I'm REALLY sorry to keep annoying you like this. But I'm looking to find the right one to learn to fly so I can quickly order it. Thanks again & sorry :)

  • Hi Mikey you are doing a lovley job for us all beginner, noobies. I don't know which heli to buy to learn with, 4 ch or 6ch. Which Heli please Mikey. I live in the UK. Please help me out i find loads of different helis that say they ideal for beginner. Which one should I go for please? Some have fm transmitter some have 2.4Ghz. Am I looknig for smaller heli that can fly in house or do I need a heli beginner that needs to fly outside? Thanks

  • Hi where can I please buy this in the UK? The first 4ch heli & would you recommend learning for absolute noobie with 4ch or 6ch helicotper?

  • Essential Information. Thanks.

  • Great video :)

  • hello excelent video, i have a question: is the doble horse 9053 a 6 Channel, Fixed Pitch or Co-axial rc heli?

  • @max19970 Neither it's a E-sky Comanche

  • I went from a 3ch Coaxial to a 6ch KDS 450 SV. I crashed it the first time out and it has been put away for the past 4 months. Yet I've been practicing on a flight simulator for the past 4 months. Well over 100 hrs of flight time, I took my heli out the other day WOW. Amazing what you can learn from a flight simulator. First flight I did a few loops and rolls. And came down to a safe landing.

  • hey, great vid!

question: i started rc helis a few months ago i got a "Lama 4", and a "nine eagles solo pro".

now im wondering wether i schould get a Honeybee FP or a full 6-channel heli...

    any suggestions??

    x)

  • @poosh117 If you are a cautious patient person go with the full 6 channel and take it slow other wise get the FP.

  • @MikeysRC tnx for the reply!

    you're awesome keep it up!

    x)

  • :) is the honey bee cp3 godd for a beginner pilot ?? i dont think so because its so hard to drive for me :D

  • @Heliman96 No it's not a good beginner heli.

  • great video , gives me alot of info, i am also new to this hobby. thanks

  • I like your Honeybee! :)

  • mmm but to 6chn heli, if its wind it can go nicely or i can lost it?

  • @thytum 6ch Heli will do ok in light wind

  • Great video.!

  • Great video.

  • Thank you Mikey for a great videos, you are the best...

One question: can i use 4 channel transmitter with 6 ch helicopter just for basic flight, not 3d

  • @3xp3rt No it will not have enough channels just to be able to control the helicopter.

  • @MikeysRC

OK thanks a lot man for a quick replay

  • Thanks for this video. Very informative.

  • hey mikey i have a tornado 6ch and i can fly it fine but sometimes i fly my old honey bee fp just for the heck of it and it has a really tough time doing right turns it always tends to go left when i turn and not right. Its perfectly trimmed because it can hover no hands for about 10 or so seconds and i cant find the problem. if it try to turn right it tends to immedieatley go left again. i would appreciate any help you could give me

  • Sounds like your tail servo isn't centering properly. So check that and you also might want to re-setup the tail / gyro. There is a chance your servo isn't centered properly.

  • thankyou ill try to see if it works!

  • Hi Mike I was a Little sad to see you crash the coaxial as as I have watched your tutorial videos over and over again, you have so much knowledge thank you for sharing this with us.

  • How hard would it be to learn to fly one now, given that I haven't touched RC for such a long time and only have experience with planes. In my mind, flying planes still feels like riding a bike. Whether that is true, I don't know.

Would you advise to go for a 4ch or 6 ch?

  • 6 channel if it's in your budget....get some training gear too and take it slow while learning to fly.

  • Mike, I used to fly RC planes (many years ago, 25 years). I used to fly scale models. Had a 1/4 scale Pitts and used to fly a Curare (Hanno Prettner) with resonance pipe. I am telling you this to give you an idea of my experience. I always wanted to fly helicopters but couldn't afford them in those days. Gyro's were not available or only just about and a friend of mine had a hard time learning so I never tried.

  • can u tell me a good simulator software, because ive got a dynam transmiter 6 chanels usb but the original software FMS sucks, and i wanna learn my brother to fly a 3d hely on a sim...ps:i want it for free :) :D.ive tried the demo clearview and its great but it last for 10 min or less

  • Yeah, FMS really sucks for learning helicopters. It might give you some practice with orientation, but thats about it. Clearview is worth every penny of it's $40, though.

If you want a free sim, HeliSim RC will get you in there air. It's physics aren't /quite/ right, but if you can manage a steady hover in HeliSim, you should be ok in real life.

See the site marksfiles dot net, and click HeliSim.

  • tanx, its much much beter then fms

  • Well glad someone else chimed in. I dunno of any other FREE sims. I actually used FMS to help teach myself to fly helis...not the best but gets the job done.

  • Yes that's right once you are moving forward at a brisk speed you bank the helicopter then pull back on the elevator / cyclic to make it turn. When you are hovering then you just use your rudder.

  • Micky... I was just wondering what would be best for me. I've had a lot of experience with rc racing cars and planes and i'm trying helis and i've been flying for a couple of months and got fairly good i think with beginners helis and my friend said go to 6 channel. But I was just wondering if i should go with a FP or 6 channel.

I think your best to ask :D

    Cheers :)

  • With your experience I'd say go for a 6 channel.

  • Hey can you help me out with this? i like helicopters and flying stuff but everyone that does it seems alittle fruity / nerdy. Now why am i asking you? cause im sure theres more that agree with me. Please help befor my helicopter goes to the show "is it a good idea to microwave this?" . thank you.

  • Still waitin for a response.

  • I don't understand your question. You microwave food.........but not RC helicopters. =)

  • Great job Mikey. I've been flying for some time, but I'm no were near were I want to be. I find your videos are excellent for me because they affirm what I have learned on my own. Your explanations and the use of teaching aids are right on.

  • Thnx!! But, i m a super beginner, so i started with a 3 channel helicopter..is it good?? It hasn't arrived yet but shipped. By the wat..nice vid.

  • Yeah, just have fun with it...then when it breaks from a crash buy either a fixed pitch or a 450 helicopter instead of trying to fix the 3 channel.

  • You are a real philanthropist by taking the time to be so thorough. I am right on the cusp of buying an original TRex, but you almost have me convince to buy the generic. Thanks for giving me a wise choice.

  • You bet glad to help.

  • that was great!! now i know what kind of heli i can purchase. Thanks Mikey!

  • great vid 5*

  • Hi!

Excellent conclusion of which helis to start with. For my sake I started with E-Sk Lama v3 and learned the orientation. Then I took a big step and skipped fixed-pitch 4-channel.

I started to build my own CCPM heli based on MikeysRC superb tutorial clips. And I practice simulator to overcome the big gap between coax and CCPM. My intention is to fly outside and join an RC club, so FP is not my option.

    Recommend simulators besides real piloting!

    Best regards!

  • Excellent !

  • About 2 months ago, I found the trex clones. I have had an mx400 for a while and just converted the tail section to the trex clone. I also have 2 gas helis. All had the standard 90 degree swash. I happened to come across your videos at the same time I purchased the trex clone. I followed all your videos and set up the heli just as you said, remote too, and this thing is alot more stable than my mx400. Just want to say thank you.

  • it looked like the fps tail was bobbing before the crash too.

  • Great video Mikey :)

  • your welcome!

  • RTF for a 6 channel. I spent on my 450 PRO over $800.00 just for the frame lol. But I feel nock offs my have problems so that worries me I'd say go with a TREX 450 for a 6 channel LOVE mine!!! <3

  • I've never had any problems with any of the clones that I own or have sold.

  • Hey Mikey good job. Glad you're not recommending 50size nitro's or even Trex 500 electrics. All my newbies have given up their original trex500s. Too powerful/scary. Crash and battery cost is high. My newbs with 600 nitros still working on basic hover and tuning for Months!!! Noisy/fast/scary. Hovering high/far is a handicap. Hard to build contol/precision if can't see heli react to precise stick movements. Trex 450 is best. Crashworthy. Cheap lipo. Just need good electronics.

  • Very informative video Mikey,Well done! Cheers Grant ;-)

  • Will you did'nt crash the 450 ;p

  • Don't worry I'm getting to that.

  • HA HA loved the honey bee thats hilarious set it on the table then set the rotor on the table this is what it looks like lol great video

  • Thanks I found it really helpful

  • BUY ALL THREE

  • Great video! However, would you recommend practicing flying on a flight sim, such as Phoenix RC and going straight to a six channel CP helicopter, such as the Trex 450 or 500?

  • Sure that is an ok way to do it. But start with a 450 not a 500.

  • awesome, this make s me want a cp heli!
