I am saving up money for this game. The first Solar is easily my favorite Indie game of all time. I beat that game %100, all challenges completed in Master Time. I can't wait to do this same for this game. Good job making these games. Everything about them is amazing. I especially loved the soundtrack of the first Solar. I feel like Solar is an underrated game, it is simply an amazing game. This game looks super promising, can't wait to get it :)
Is there some sort of trial / demo for this game on steam? I want to try it out, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to by a $10 game I'm not sure i'll like...
bought this shit the instant i saw it on xbl marketplace. i loved the first one and immediately sank 3 straight hours into this one. looking forward to spending some more time with it. can't wait until part 3!! ;) gotta get some super massive blackholes, gamma bursts and star nurseries too!
Old school gameplay, but this one is surprisingly good! Also, the music is fantastic and fits really well. I've finished 20% of the missions thusfar.. they're tough as nails.
You should give totalhalibut (aka totalbiscuit, the cynical brit) some keys to give away, I'm quite sure he's responsible for 95% of your income at the moment :p
I was thinking I was awesome with my 2 star system with 6 life planets then I looked at the achievements and saw something about a 6 star system and almost cried D: How are you supposed to achieve that?
OMG! I was just floating around, minding my own business with my 16 star system and them BOOM crashed into a 25 (!!) star system! While I was chasing it, it crashed into a 23 (!!) star system! Ofcourse I took a screenshot! awesome game :D
Interesting game. You should add Super Giants and Hyper Giants as stars and maybe some comets too. I can already see this game bursting with variety ;)
What a cool concept. I hope someone buys this and gives it the funding it deserves. This could be the "civilisation" of the next 15 years. Basic right now (but still interesting) could be awesome with funding and some planning.
this game is really fun but for the life of me I CANNOT GET THE DAMN MULTI STAR SYSTEMS! Ive seen a triple star system with small medium and large stars (very pretty) BUT I CANT EVEN GET 2 OF THE SMALL STARS GAH!!!
lol luuuv this game missions awards nd the entity just make this game fukin amazing not to mention the life that roams around after their planet gets destroyed.....glad i got this on the first day i have an 11 star solar system right now with only 2 awards left......god mode when switched reset to default lags u out of the game pls update that pls
Just about to look through the forums. Will this work on my laptop. It's has an Intel i5 with an integrated graphics card and that has been a problem for me with some games.
although i was a bit disappointed when i got too big, swallowed the universe and had to start over as an asteroid =/ i was hoping i could get even bigger
@Davidarmo42415 Heh, like what DKC60628 said, if you haven't played Half Life 2 yet you should get that instead. I don't mind, Half Life 2 is a great game!
@Murudai Awesome dude. Not only do you create awesomely original and just down right fun and mesmerizing games, but you actually don't mind losing out customers to Valve. Kudos.
Half-Life is my favourite series ever, but your series is something I want to see developing and evolving for the next 40 years. Half-Life is bound to get old at some point, this could go on forever.
Keep up the awesome work dude. I'l buy Solar 3 the day I see it just like I did the first 2.
It's pretty good for someone's first game, and I think this guy will go on to make some great things, but I still feel a bit taken after paying 10 bucks for it. Sort of like I felt after I bought Spore...
It will make a great iPhone app, but it's a bit disposable as a pc game.
@Aovi63 Have you beat all the missions and the final boss yet? I find it interesting how some people are saying it doesn't have much to it, but according to achievements only 0.5% of users have actually finished the game. I plan to add more depth to the game anyway, so maybe you'll pick it up sometime in the future and like the updates I've made!
Didn't say there wasn't much to it as far as number of missions, etc., but I can't get interested in it enough to do anything more after about an hour or so of playing it.
It's a good effort, and I applaud you for it--I probably just read too much into the summary of the game on Steam and was expecting something more in depth than a really good reworking of asteroids.
10 bucks isn't a fortune, but I just felt, for me, the value wasn't there, and would have preferred not buying it.
the fact few users are bothering to finish the game isn't a feather in your cap, but an indication how many are putting it down and not picking it up again.
It's not a horrible game, just not worth the 9 bucks. I haven't finished the missions or killed the last boss yet because frankly, I'm already out 9 bucks and 2 hours, why waste more when there are more entertaining options for my free time?
@Aovi63 According to the average-time spent on the game stats, it seems a lot of people are quite enjoying it and putting in a lot of time. Anyway I just released a patch which fixed up the more frustrating missions and added neutron stars, and I'm planning more free updates. So maybe check it out in a few months time, you might enjoy it more!
I was kinda disappointed, when I got to be a black hole. I expected stars to begin orbiting me, so I got to be a galaxy. And after that - maybe even a galaxy cluster!?
I was sorta disappointed when I got to be a black hole. Thought i was gonna have start orbiting me, and create a galaxy, and then after that become a galaxy cluster - before ofc finally tearing the universe apart :P
@Wookien That would be cool, but galaxies don't really fit into the sandbox. Everything else operates on the same scale, but galaxies would be massive and would need an entirely new "game" to play in. I don't even know what gameplay I could do with galaxies! They'd just sort of merge with lots of little explosions from crashing stars.
@Murudai It would need a new layer yes. But that could be made, by making another background, and a new set of models. In this layer, asteroids would be invisble (too small), planets would replace asteroids, stars would replace planets, and the black hole would be the center of the galaxy (milkyway style). When the black hole in the middle got big enough you could go to a new scale, and let you have galaxys orbiting you. Or maybe start with you needing to merge with other galaxys.
@Wookien Another idea would be to "steal" stars from other galaxies to grow further (sort of expected you to be able to steal planets from other stars). Galaxies getting torn apart by bigger galaxies, is a beautiful sight :)
@unnamednewbie13 Spore was a 3D game, which have really flexible cameras to zoom in and out and move around, Solar 2 is 2D though and the game just wasn't designed to zoom out very far. Plus, Spore had way more people on the dev team to be able to make all those separate games :D
@unnamednewbie13 I'm not talking gameplay, I mean it has 3D modeling and cameras and techniques, which allows for reasonably simple scaling up and down. Where as 2D flat textures don't scale up and down as well. Plus Spore was made by a MASSIVE team who could create all the graphics and assets for all the different levels. I'm only one guy, I can't complete with Maxis and EA.
@Murudai Granted, but something like the cellular stage could be replicated with a new backdrop and different sprites. Not sure how the galaxies would interact with one another, but it would be less abrupt than a sudden end-of-the-universe via relatively small black hole.
As it is now, the game occupied an evening and was well worth the ten bucks on Steam. There's plenty to expand on now without adding a new stage, but it would still be pretty sweet.
@keeperofsouls13 Not in the initial build, no. Solar 2 is a fairly unusual game, so I can't just look up how all those RTS and FPS multiplayer games work and copy it. For a one man team like me, doing multi-player on a game like Solar 2 is just too tricky. But one day I might get it working, you never know. Maybe someone will make a clone and put multiplayer in it, I wouldn't mind that.
@garrett123456789t3n having played some of this game and all of solar 1 I can say that this is almost nothing like solar 1. There's so much more in this game it's unbelieveable.
This game is utterly incredible. Totally worth $10.
