I tried for hours to figure this out on my own but using these settings worked in two seconds. Thanks so much for the clear and easy to understand help.
When I use these settings the video itself gets cropped into a smaller format and I get black bars all around the video. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Using exact settings as shown in the description.
Oh also important is make sure to leave the audio sample size at 16 bit. I changed it to 32 bit because of my amateurish thinking that the audio would be higher quality, but then no sound came out. The video rendered in 2 hours, and then when I found there was no audio I was not very happy. And the quality is awesome. Thank you!
@mrpowers4667 No it doesn't, it can be any frame rate, dosnt matter what your cameras frame rate is, my camera shoots 30fps but i like to export it at 24fps cause it gives it more of a professional look :) hope this helped lol
Hey, i just followed your set instructions for exporting a vid. On the media encoder section i don't have anything on the audio tab, do i need to download a codec? Because the file i exported had no sound.. Please reply!
hi, i want to convert clips from .wmv to .mp4 but i don't want them too large but i want them of decent quality, what are some common modes i can use? i currently have:
Video Code: x264
Frame size: 1280x720
Video Bitrate: 10000
Video Framerate:30
Encode pass: 2
How can i lower this so the files won't be sooo large when i try to import them into realplayer after i convert? any help would be appreciate . . . .
hi guys, i have the problem that when i play the video in players like VLC or quicktime it doesn't plays in fullscreen. there are always blackbars left, right, top and bottom.

wow great stuff, however when i play my movie in quicktime i have no audio, and same for windows media player, however i do have audio in vlc. will i still have audio if i upload it youtube? Either way great work.
I need help i like the settings i have for my Quicktime Export but i can't get the videos under 2 GB. Alot of ppl change the Data Rate. Does that make the video size smaller with out changing the quality?
why is the pixel aspect ratio: square pixels (1.0) set? why not 16:9? i dont really know the meaning of square pixels aspect ratio. i know wat 16:9 and 4:3 ratios are. nice vid man!!

A B S O L U T E L Y A M A Z I N G..... days searching and this was just what i needed to do.... i got my ugly 568Mb video into 59Mb HD 720p .mov!!! thanks a lot manÇ!
This video was just what I needed! I was struggling to get high quality low-bitrate videos ... I've played with virtual-dub and adobe premier-pro years ago ... but am only now really taking an interest in it. I was having problems with vista 64 in relation to codecs etc., and was having to learn about h264 settings in ffdshow and x264 and so on ... this video solved all my headaches and failures in one easy clear set of instructions. THANK YOU!
I did a 4 minute movie with these settings and it ended up at 1.12 gigs, i've been doing video editing for around 5 years now so I know i'm using the correct programs, settings, checked boxes, everything he said down to the tee.
So is there some bizarre reason the filesize is so massively inflated? I render the exact same stuff directly through Quicktime Pro instead of Premiere and the same 4 minute movie is around 100MB...
thx for the comment smleh, makes sense. After a couple of attempts I was able to upload my file in HD. Looks ok, not great, but when you hit the HD button it makes it indeed a lot better
hmmm I exported my HD file exactly in the settings in CS3 that were suggested in the video above. ended up being 700 MB for 2 minutes. How does hermogino get 44 sec in 25 MB??? ..And then youtube is giving me the message "upload failed (unable to convert video file). any help would be appreciated
Same thing here with my computer.. my own HD videos, and downloaded content play fine but youtube HD content wont play right.. might need 4gb ram instead of 2

How do you make a vid 16:9? i am using standard 16:9 DVD PAL format mpg's. No matter what i do i cant get them in 16:9. They come into Premiere as 16:9 i set everything to 16:9 and export the movie. It always comes out 4:3. CyberLink PowerDirector does it without any problems why is Premiere so crap at it?
Hah I didn't recognize it until you mentioned it..which is sad, because I live in SD XD Well, what can I say, I was more interested in getting the stupid widescreen settings to work.
Have you ever had the resulting video out of premier using these settings play back in slow motion? The resulting video I render plays slower, people move slower and their voices sound deeeeper.
I tried using this codec, the video was good overall (check my channel for the HD videos to see) but in HD it loses sound with apple loseless @ 36 & 44khz, any idea what's up?
thx dude.. this was very helpful. even, not for youtube use. I couldn't even figure out how to export HD video without it being like 20 gb and never playing on any player. such amazingly small files! i'm happy now
I have tried the settings that you have listed and I am having problems with audio cutting in and out. Its playing the music fast sometimes then cuts it off? This is happening after I export? What do you guys think... any help would be great!
Maybe its just your CPU is too low MHz to encode something Into High Def...Im using Intel Core2 Quad QX6700 At 3.2GHz, Its going just fine, Really fast infact. Its only taking 5 Minutes to encode a 7 min vid. Dual cores shouldnt have a problem...Have you tried quiting all background applications before encoding?...And what program are you using?
first off this is really good. but a couple questions. what cam did you use? it says you used 29.97 fps progressive. so does that mean u shot in 30p?? cuz then it says non progressive later...so what did you shoot in?
Thanks for the video hermogino. I think you will find that if you use these settings for anything over a min plus, the audio will get out of sync. I believe this is a you tube decoding problem. Can you try these settings to see if your audio gets out of sync with HD option?
When you watch the video you have just encoded (on your PC, not on YouTube), is there sound? Make sure you're using Apple Lossless for your audio. That's the only setting I've tested so far and it works.
ive been using apple lossless and its worked for every other video but my last two videos using apple lossless havnt worked. thanks for the kelp but i dont know what to do cuz none of my videos have sound. if you could please tell me the problem and how to fix it i would appreciate it but thanks anyway
I need help (googling didn't help). I also use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. I experimented with wmv9 first and was able to get the HD option. Then, I tried to encode the same video in MPEG-4 using the same settings as yours. The normal version is fine, but when I view in HD, the video length gets cut off from 3:09 to 2:03. I tried 2 other lower bitrates but still the same problem. The wmv9 version didn't have this cut off problem in hd. Anyone, any idea why this is happening? Please advise. Thanks.
I did use H.264. The original video and the normal version after uploading is just fine, but when I click to enable the HD, about 1:06 at the end of the video is cut off. Several posts at the youtube forum mentioned a similar problem of video length getting cut off at the end of the high quality version. So I think this is an issue with youtube. But since this doesn't happen to all videos, I hope there's some strange way of fixing it. Like I said, it doesn't happen on the wmv9 version. Strange!
FINALLY problem solved. I used H.264 for the actual "Format:" setting. The Quicktime format with H.264 codec is "technically" fine but youtube just won't cooperate with my videos after numerous (lost count) attempts of uploading. Youtube needs to fix this problem, since I am starting to see more of the same complaint at the youtube help forum. Using H.264 for the format (in Adobe), the HD version is no longer cut off at the end of the video and the audio seems to be fine. Thanks.
Yup. You can find 720p flash-memory video cameras for about $90. They take decent video in good light (poor video in low light however). Search "Insignia HD Video".
Thank you YouTube for finally supporting HD! Some really great videos here have been ruined by YouTube's previous shitty low res quality. Now we just wait for the good HD videos to come. =]
I set my sequence to 1280 by 720 and it only renders 720 by 480...

I tried using this codec, the video was good overall (check my channel for the HD videos to see) but in HD it loses sound with apple loseless @ 36 & 44khz, any idea what's up?

I have tried the settings that you have listed and I am having problems with audio cutting in and out. Its playing the music fast sometimes then cuts it off? This is happening after I export? What do you guys think... any help would be great!

Maybe its just your CPU is too low MHz to encode something Into High Def...Im using Intel Core2 Quad QX6700 At 3.2GHz, Its going just fine, Really fast infact. Its only taking 5 Minutes to encode a 7 min vid. Dual cores shouldnt have a problem...Have you tried quiting all background applications before encoding?...And what program are you using?
BlackPheonix81 3 years ago
I tried the settings that you have listed and the audio goes crazy??? Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks
Oelenberger 3 years ago
also should you uncheck the stuff in alternates? and on the output tab of the encoder, is the deinterlace box checked or unchecked?
jewrabs 3 years ago
first off this is really good. but a couple questions. what cam did you use? it says you used 29.97 fps progressive. so does that mean u shot in 30p?? cuz then it says non progressive later...so what did you shoot in?

Whats your comp spec?

Thanks for the video hermogino. I think you will find that if you use these settings for anything over a min plus, the audio will get out of sync. I believe this is a you tube decoding problem. Can you try these settings to see if your audio gets out of sync with HD option?
tsankey 3 years ago
thank you your tutorial showed me how to do this correctly! :)

When I save the video under these settings it still has two black bars on the side. Does the raw fotage have to already be in the 1280x720 format?

No, just the footage you want to upload.

when i use these settings if u try to watch the uploaded video in hd there is no sound. why?
ALEXsk8r 3 years ago
When you watch the video you have just encoded (on your PC, not on YouTube), is there sound? Make sure you're using Apple Lossless for your audio. That's the only setting I've tested so far and it works.
hermogino 3 years ago
ive been using apple lossless and its worked for every other video but my last two videos using apple lossless havnt worked. thanks for the kelp but i dont know what to do cuz none of my videos have sound. if you could please tell me the problem and how to fix it i would appreciate it but thanks anyway

Thanks for the tip! I'll switch to MainConcept's H.264 if I ever run into problems with QuickTime's.

Thanks.

Does your original video (the video that you uploaded to YT) also cuts off? Make sure you're using QuickTime's H.264 codec (not MainConcept's).
hermogino 3 years ago
I did use H.264. The original video and the normal version after uploading is just fine, but when I click to enable the HD, about 1:06 at the end of the video is cut off. Several posts at the youtube forum mentioned a similar problem of video length getting cut off at the end of the high quality version. So I think this is an issue with youtube. But since this doesn't happen to all videos, I hope there's some strange way of fixing it. Like I said, it doesn't happen on the wmv9 version. Strange!
RJtexasUSA 3 years ago
Strange. Something is always up with YT. They're always making changes. Hopefully they'll fix that problem. Hang in there.
hermogino 3 years ago
FINALLY problem solved. I used H.264 for the actual "Format:" setting. The Quicktime format with H.264 codec is "technically" fine but youtube just won't cooperate with my videos after numerous (lost count) attempts of uploading. Youtube needs to fix this problem, since I am starting to see more of the same complaint at the youtube help forum. Using H.264 for the format (in Adobe), the HD version is no longer cut off at the end of the video and the audio seems to be fine. Thanks.

That is impressive; you will need a good camera for this though! Great for screen capturing.
ugforthewin 3 years ago
