UH-OH CHUNGO!! Hahaa, friggin classic... I think Chungo was Filipino. LOL I love the cliffhanger at the end of the episode, when Chungo is fighting a giant vampire bat. Gotta love it. Kids shows nowadays, have no adventure and SUCK ASS, and teach kids to be gay... like the Wiggles. The 60s, 70s and 80s era shows were the shit.
Thank god for youtube, I started thinking I made this show up in my head, nobody ever knew what the hell I was talking about with this segment. THANKS!
Well let's hand you a fucking Emmy for effects critique. It's a kids show from the late 60's, they didn't have the budget or technology of today's shows. It was great in the day, let's leave it at that. Today's shows will suck in the future soon enough....
It was was deliberately shot that way to keep the audience's attention (it certainly got yours, didn't it!) It was the same gimmick they used on the opening of Hawaii Five-o when there is a distant ariel shot of Jack Lord standing on his hotel balcony with his back to the camera. As the camera zooms in, he whirls round dramatically to face it, as if the audience was the bad guy trying to sneak up on him!
Didn't the tall dark guy look like a recurring actor on the "Hawaii Five-O" series? I refer to the guy who played an AWOL soldier one season, an off-duty cop who tried to diffuse a standoff with a sniper another season, and a shady character trying to get a family out of town in the midst of a bubonic plague watch yet another season. He sure dows look familiar...
Was it: "Uh Oh Chongo" or "Uh Oh Jango"? I grew up with this show but never knew exactly what he said. P.S. I still use this phrase today, to the bewilderment of those around me.
I was 42 the other day. I looked at this and floods of lovely memories came piling back! Same age as me ish? You know what I mean then!! Im off to root out something more!
I really miss these old shows. It seems that all the kids shows today are always trying to preach some lesson. These old kids shows were great because they didn't pretend to be anything other than what they were... entertainment for children.
I recorded the opening song on my little portable Panasonic cassette recorder (they came in red, blue, yellow...) - it had Chongo screaming his "aaaa gigigig gaaaaaah !" Wish it was on this one.
Wow, that brings back memories. Loved that show as a kid. Just did a search and found an "Uh Oh, Chongo!" shirt right here> 3dubs cafepressdotcom/lasword
Uh Oh Chongo! I've spent my whole , post 13 year old life, thinking that I'd imagined this, til tonight. Noone i have EVER met has EVER known WTF I've beeen on about when I've said this! Hallefreakinlujah!! Thankyou all!
i use to love this show, when i was littele boy 9-11 old in africa, also THE banana splits. but my Favorites was BEUTIFUL WOMAN THY CALL IT MAIJAA FROM "SPACE 1999"
I almost forgot the other scene - Link and one of the pirates have a fight on the boat, and Chongo walks up with a banana; Link grabs the banana, and smooshes it right in the pirates face, and then throws him overboard.
The best part of this show was the fact that they alternated danger/action scenes with "in the face" slapstick, like the big pie fight where they totally smoosh those cream pies in each others faces in the opening segment. Another one had Chongo slowly smashing a watermelon back and forth right in Morgan's face.
I so love this show - is there any chance of you uploading the rest of it? I've been looking for it everywhere, but apparently it was never put on any DVD or VHS!
Great show! I remember watching it as a kid myself and this show actually had an ending. You guys can still catch it now and then on the Boomerang Network. There should be more post of these short shows from the Banana Splits!
Is it Tongo or Chongo?
